So what did everyone think of the new season? It seems to be more of the same but for some
reason it did not hit my funny bone they way the show has in the past. It was a good episode but it was missing
something, but that’s what I thought.

Had some funny stuff in it though, GI Joe, man boy love, and
the opening was classic, one of my favorites from this series, mainly because
it was so true in explaining how Fox screws everything up.

I wonder if it will last this time or if it will just end up
like before, canceled at the height of its popularity.

<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: "times new roman";">Oh, and uh, you need to be in the industry to have
seen the episode, a friend of mine got a copy of the DVD from a friend of a
friend who knows a guy. But then again
I am sure everyone here knows a guy who knows a guy so there wont be much of a
problem.

By forced I simply mean they got blatantly vulgar in order to get a reaction. It wasn't the smart comedy I'm used to getting from FG. It reminded me of some of the worst South Park episodes that seem to come at the end of their seasons when they are short on material. Hence they up the vulgar/in your face comedy in order to stay "on the edge". I've stated before that I still enjoy the show, just not as much when they air episodes like the last one.

i don't know about this season it'funny but everything seems sooo forced. basically it's loose premise, obscure reference obscure refernce, something shocking that you can't believe they just aired, cut scence, obcure reference, stewey sub plot, obscure reference, cut scence, loose ending. which i wouldn't mind so much but they don't even flow likr they did in the previous season and it just is falling flat.

I'm pretty sure Seth McFarlane was the one whos
started that. He was taking shots at The Simpsons when he was doing
that college tour before Family Guy came back on air.

It's
clear
Family Guy is the funnier show now, but it's best episodes still can't
come close to touching the Golden Era Simpsons episodes, and seeing as
how it obviously has taken so much from the Simpsons Seth should just
shut up. The single biggest mechanism Seth uses (Remember that
time...) is lifted directly from The Simpsons. There would be no Family
Guy without the Simpsons.

Seth taking shots at The Simpsons now is the equivalent of some guy making fun of his really old father who has Alzheimers.
Has it gotten
better or worse with age?
-Eric Wirtanen (from Simpsons fansite nohomers.net):
Recent episodes are just as funny as those from 1994.
-Shea Hogan (from Family Guy fansite
thedrunkenclam.com): All the good stories have been
done. There's been countless rehashing of jokes, the
stories are pointless and the writings bad.
-Wirtanen: I don't see how the stories are any more
"pointless" than Family Guys.
-Hogan: Family Guys pointlessness is part of its
charm.

Are Simpsons fans smarter than than Family Guy fans?
-Wirtanen: I'd say Family Guy is more lowbrow. The
Simpsons doesn't feature five-minute scenes with the
main character beating up a chicken. So yes, we're
clearly smarter.
-Hogan: You can be dumb as a stump and understand The
Simpsons.
-Wirtanen: I never said The Simpsons was highbrow,
dipshit. There us simply more lowbrow humor in Family
Guy.

Is Family Guy edgier than The Simpsons?
-Wirtanen: Edgier is regard to lowbrow humor, yes. But
The Simpsons still attacks groups such as
environmentalists, the Catholic church, it features
episodes about marijuana...
-Hogan: Whoa, the Catholic church. Oh my!

Shea, what do you say to people who claim Family Guys
rips off The Simpsons?
-Hogan: "Get your head out of your ass." The Simpsons
rips off The Flintstones, The Jetsons and lately, I'd
say, Family Guy.

The Simpsons has Chief Wiggum, Apu, The Sea Captain...
Does Family Guy have as expansive a universe?
-Wirtanen: Not at all. To be fair, the show's still
young. If it lasts many seasons (which it won't),
you'll see every other episode devoted to secondary
characters.
-Hogan: "If it lasts"? A show that was un-canceled
won't last? Please.

Do you think it's a failing of Family Guy that it
doesn't try to have a deeper emotional component?
-Hogan: Definitely not. Adults don't want to get lame
emotional crap fed to them all the time. It's
refreshing to just sit back and laugh your ass off.

What is the single worst thing about The Simpsons?
-Hogan: Lisa. She makes me cry on the inside.

How about Family Guy?
-Wirtanen: The fact that it uses pop-culture
references as a substitute for humor.

Final question: Who gets laid more, a Simpsons fan or
a Family Guy fan?
-Hogan: Neither.
I just saw the "movie," if you want to call it
that. It's pretty obviously three episodes put together. In fact, it's
painfully obvious where each episode ends. If you've ever seen Daffy
Duck's Quackbusters, or any of those older Looney Tunes "movies",
that's what this is. The only thing the three episodes have in common
is that they are Stewie-Centric. Actually, the last two are connected,
and the last one tries to connect into the first one. Plus, all three
episodes are going to be aired by Fox eventually, anyway.

There
were also two segements, one beforre the movie and one after that were
made specifically for the DVD and they were funny. There's probably 20
minutes between those two segements.

My verdict: Very good. There
was some cursing in the episodes that will be censored, but very
little. They REALLY turned the Meg bashing into overdrive too. One
episode goes into the future, and what they have done to Meg is a new
direction as far as that goes. But the movie is 3 strong episodes back
to back to back. Not groundbreaking, I've seen better this season, but
if you are wondering if the episodes will stay strong if this is any
indication the answer is absolutely yes. There's a GREAT West Wing gag
at the end. It's on the DVD portion so it won't be on TV. It's the
fucking epitome of why I hate that show and anything by Sorkin.

I had heard rumors that there would be some big revelation about
Stewie in the movie. There wasn't. So don't expect one.

They REALLY turned the Meg bashing into overdrive too. One episode goes into the future, and what they have done to Meg is a new direction as far as that goes.

Nice!

Meg bashing = funny!

I saw the movie. I absolutely loved it. It was really funny all the way
through. It wasnt 3 episodes put together. It had one ongoing story
line with Stewie and then some side plots with the other characters. It
was really well done. I was laughin my ass off the whole time. I really
hope they wind up doing more of these.
The movie was ok, pretty standard for the show. And if you check
the end of the credits, the 3 episode codes are at the end of the
credits (every tv show episode has a 4 letter/number combination, like
the Simpsons)

With all of the reruns on both Fox and Cartoon Network, even things I didn't find really funny the first go around, with this season, has warmed with me. I thought Sunday's new one was really good, except for the end. Reagan yelling at the McDonald's wall was maybe the cringiest thing they've done this season, since Blind Peter hopped in bed with Chris and felt him up.

Just because the episode number is 415 doesn't
mean it is season 4. Fox airs Family Guy episodes out of order. For
example, the three episodes from the Family Guy are number 4__ episodes
but they aren't going to be aired until Spring. The Simpsons does this
as well, with episodes finished at the end of one season aired at the
beginning of the next. The numbers only have to do with the order in
which they were ordered by Fox and created.

Don't take my word
for it. Look at the Family Guy Box sets. Look at the episode numbers.
They are arranged by air date, but the episode numbers are all out of
order. There are 200 episodes the aired before some of the 100
episodes.
I thought that was the worst episode of Family Guy I've ever seen. American Dad was a million times better.

the stewie-brian thing was funny and i'm sure it was referencing a movie just can't think of which

but the whole peter becomes a patriot thing was kinda dumb
I agree. The Stewie and Brian subplot was great, but the whole Patriots thing sucked.

Family Guy to Retell Star Wars: Episode IV
Source: Variety May 25, 2007

Fox's animated hit "Family Guy" will kick off its fifth season this September with an hourlong episode that retells the "Star Wars" saga using "Family Guy" characters.

Variety says Lucasfilm has blessed the event, which will have the Griffin family acting out all the key scenes and narrative from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane is a major "Star Wars" fan and was personally involved in getting Lucasfilm on board.

Not surprisingly, family patriarch Peter Griffin will play the role of Han Solo, while mom Lois will appear as Princess Leia. Evil baby Stewie will be Darth Vader, natch.

Brian the family dog will serve as Chewbacca, while son Chris is Luke. Robots R2-D2 and C-3PO will be handled by Cleveland and Quagmire, respectively, while creepy old guy Herbert gets the Obi- Wan character.

The plot of the episode has the Griffin family stuck at home during a blackout. With no TV to entertain them, Peter decides to tell a story --- leading to the "Star Wars" flashback.

Agreed! Seth Green trumping his own show.

no one else thought they basically just ripped off thumb wars and just made it animated? Kind of funny how they old did Episode IV as that is exactly what Thumb Wars did, guess he couldnt steal material from anything else.

the only part I really enjoyed was the reference to Doctor Who with the hyperspace. I know that tons of other people would be totally confused with the reference.

the episode was ok at best. They should just stick to the regular obscure references to Star Wars instead of so you something you've seen before but with a quick little joke or there.

Any links or anyone hear about this:

Something was edited out at the end of the first act, although it did apparently air in Canada. Based on descriptions: during the scene, a fake advertisement for The Simpsons with Marge appears at the bottom of the screen (poking fun at networks' tendencies to advertise other shows during the current show.) A same-sized (small) Quagmire then walks in and decides to have sex with Marge (offscreen). The action then cuts to the exterior of the Simpson household, and the rest is implied in sound only: during his "conquest," the rest of the Simpson family walks in on them, so Quagmire decides to shoot them all. A rather cruel gag, but then again, both series have thrown acidic barbs at each other in the past.

Apparently everything was pulled off YouTube and nothing on break either.

Wouldn't mind seeing it.

hunnerbun
10-01-2007, 06:52 PM
I saw it...it was funny as hell. At first Marge is fighting him off, then it shows Peter, Lois and Stewie sitting on the couch but looking down toward the bottom of the screen where this is all taking place. Marge finally gives in to Quagmire and they head offscreen. Petr or Lois says "what was that all about" or something like that, then it cuts to an exterior view of the Simpson house with sounds of Marge and Quagmire getting it on. Next thing Homer's voice is heard in shock about what is happening. Then all of a sudden a flash and a bang is heard, then Bart comes in, a pause, then a bang, then Lisa, same thing, Finally you hear Maggie sucking her soother then another bang. Then it went to commercial.

Don't you ever, EVER compare me to Family Guy, you hear me Kyle? Compare me to Family Guy again and so help me, I will kill you where you stand! Do you have any idea what it's like? Everywhere I go: "Hey Cartman you must like Family Guy, right?" "Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of Family Guy, Cartman!" I am nothing like Family Guy! When I make jokes they are inherent to a story! Deep situational and emotional jokes based on what is relevant and has a point, not just one random interchangeable joke after another!
