Ye Gods.  My DSL just got turned on tonight, and I'm insane.  I can't stop visiting websites I always did just to see how fast they load now.  I can't get over how fast I can post now, even with the award winning tools.  I can't get over how quickly I download my "Educational Videos."  This is insanity.  I set up my wireless router that came with my Verizon DSL package deal, then I installed my wireless card in my notebook.  Suddenly, I'm outside looking at websites.  Went down to my grandma's house to get some pictures out of her AOL account with it.  AMAZINGLY fast through the floor.I mean I know I'm gonna get used to it eventually, but until then, I will LOVE this new surfing power.  AOL sucks balls, and I'm making sure it's canceled as soon as possible.

i just hooked up my father's old compaq up with verizon dsl. it was a
pain in the ass, since he didn't have an ethernet card. but now that
it's up and running, i must say that there's little diffrence between
dsl and cable. the only descernable diffrence has to be in downloading
large files. but when it comes to surfing the web, there're the same,
and dsl is about half the price.

the only descernable diffrence has to be in downloading large filesYou see, it's for file transfers that I really wanted to get high speed internet, but DSL is great, yes.  Uploading files to our band website, and then finding stuff I want online.Quick story.  I was over my band's house yesterday, and I brought my laptop.  Got their network key, and I thought I was gonna be FLYING because they have cable access.  It turns out that they only have a B wireless router.  I was actually moving slower over there than at home with my G wireless router.  And I got the wireless card in my laptop so I wouldn't have to hard wire myself into someone's system.  I gotta talk to them about getting a G.

Even if they get a G router, make sure each member of the band has a G wireless card.  A single B card on a G wireless network will drop the whole network to B.Don't be a D and get fucked in the A.  Make sure they get the G ASAP or you'll be FUBAR.  ROFLMAO !!!  Sometimes I hate the Internet.

This may sound stupid, but I was wondering if you need a specific modem/card to use a DSL line.  I was thinking of gettign DSL down the road, and I have a Network card on my computer, is it possible to use that or will I have to shell out the $$$ for a DSL specific  card/modem

That's exactly what I'm saying, Moe. And you just
need a network card for dsl.  Phone line goes into a dsl modem,
network cable comes from the modem.  You can plug it directly into
the computer, or put a router between them to allow multiple
computers.
