what are these things? now i know i could do a google search about this but im wondering if anyone here has some first hand knowledge. Where im from originaly i never even heard of them now that i live in the south there all over the place, do you have to join them? and since i am in the south this isnt some hold over from the Jim crow days just do keep black people out of the neighborhood are they? any info would be appreciated

That sums it up perfectly. You can't paint your house, you can't change anything without some stupid "board's approval." You pay them astronomical fees in addition to your mortgage for "services" which really just amount to paying some flunky to mow the common areas once a month. And they conduct inspections 4 times a year, looking for shit to fine you for if you don't fix it. These associations are supposed to keep the "integrity" of a neighborhood intact but it seems more like nazi germany to me.

My cousins have one in Texas. Basically, it is a bunch of assholes that
