http://www.pwtorch.com/artman/publish/article_13007.shtml

Very sad news. He suffered a broken ankle at TNA's PPV on Sunday. He was at the Impact tapings. He may have suffered a staph infection after surgery.

I'm fucking speechless.

Wow, that is shocking to hear. Granted, he and Tammy did pretty much throw their lives away with the dugs, but it seemed like he was on the road to recovery.

I wonder if it was the drugs or if it was an infection from the recent surgery.

Candido's Brother Speaks Out On Reason Behind His Death

04/29/2005 - Chris Candido's brother, Johnny Candido, made the following statement in regards to his brother's death.

"I find it only fitting you hear the truth from me about the death of my bestfriend, brother, and soulmate. Chris died tonight due to a blood clot brought on by complications with his surgery. I just want to tell everyone that in their sorrow, find a way to be happy that he went out the way he wanted to...on top of the world, blonde, tan, and loving life up until the last minute. Every ounce of my brother loved this sport, and for him to go out 2 or 3 years ago wouldn't have been a fitting end to the life of such a determined, passionate, and benevolent human being. I truly view my brother as an angel as will all who knew him. Thanks to everyone for all your positive press, Chris went out a happy man and will forever live on as the(one of) greatest of all time. He would have had it no other way."

source - declarationofindependents.net

It's very sad. It made me think about that Growing Pains episode where Carol's boyfriend DWI'ed, but then he was OK, and then he wasn't.

I really wish I could joke about this, but I can't. I had the pleasure of interviewing Chris and Bam Bam Bigelow before the Living Dangerously PPV in Asbury Park on my college radio show. Both of them came in, we shot the shit, and we talked late into the night. One of the best moments was when Chris did his AWESOME Terry Funk impression, and then we started crank calling Al Snow.

He had a troubled life, he seemed cleaned up, but I wish his family my deepest condolences.

this was a total shock to everyone in the business.

Chris and Tammy both cleaned up their acts about a year and a half ago ( right about the time that Jerry "The Wall/Malice" Tuite passed away. Alot of people think that Jerry dying was a wake up call for them.

i've known Chris my whole career, and while we were never "close" he was always a great guy to be around.

hell, his mother used to talk about him 13 years ago when i used to work in a supermarket as a clerk and she knew i was just starting out as a wrestler. he was already making a name for himself at that point.

After his clean up and subsequent return to dedicating himself to being at his best again, chris really went out of his way to help out all the young guys coming up in the business.

His match last month at JAPW came close to stealing the show, and the fans gave him a great "Welcome back" chant that really choked him up ( you can see this match on episode 8 of world wide on JAPW.net).

I hope that Tammy stays strong, and that Chris' brother Johnny carries the Candido name forward from here on out.

God Speed Chris.

Here's WWE.com's way of acknowledging his passing...

Chris Candido passes away - 1972-2005
April 29, 2005

World Wrestling Entertainment is saddened by the passing of Chris Candido.

Chris
appeared in WWE as Skip of the Bodydonnas in the mid 1990s. He also
competed for ECW and WCW, and held both the WWE and ECW World Tag Team
titles and the WCW Cruiserweight Championship. He was an amazing
athlete and a gifted performer, and we offer our deepest condolences to
his family and friends.

Im sure Vince will do what he usually does and have a nice little
picture of Candido in the beginning of the show (probably Sunday Night
Heat though) and itll say RIP 1972-2005 and thatll be the end of
that...maybe JR might mention it during the course of the show for
filler...
What do you expect Vince to do? He was a jobber to the stars(and Barry Horowitz) 10 years ago for a few months. Should he get the 10 bell salute and a 2 hour Owen tribute? No disrespect to the guy, it's a true tragedy the way in which he died, but to what extent should the WWE be responsible for acknowledging deaths? If one of their video crew operators died, do you think he'd ever recieve that treatment? And ask yourself, what person is more vital to the success and sustainaility of the WWE over the years?
