I can understand how reporting can help society but at times it seems they cross-over the line of sensibility to get the 'top story'. Like when you see these weathermen standing out in a torrential downpour of a hurricane. Why can't they just take camera shots from a safe haven. They could still provide the feel for the power of the storm by filming crashing waves or blown trees from the patio of a hotel or from the inside of a van.</p><p>What do you think?&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you care? Will you lose sleep?</p>

I've been working for a shitty Yemeni English newspaper for three weeks now. I am scared. I'm not a journalist, (I wouldn't call anyone at this paper a &quot;journalist&quot;), but it's given me a sense of what kind of risk it is to be a journalist in an authoritarian system. Even a low-rent half-assed one like Yemen. As authoritarian systems go, it's actually not that bad. But journalists who choose to criticize the government do routinely wind up in jail and/or beaten and/or mysteriously killed in &quot;accidents&quot; (Yemeni journalists are quite the clumsy bunch). But even more than it is dangerous for journalists here, there is a monstrous need for real journlalism here. If I have to edit one more government press release submitted to me as a &quot;news story&quot; I&nbsp;might just&nbsp;have to do something that might just cause me to go and have myself a little ol' accident.
