This evening I came home from work to find that my internet connection was down. I use Cablevison and a router as a physical firewall. I couldnt get it to come up, so I called customer service and they connected me to a girl (who sounded fucking HOT!) and she had me checking things like IP addresses and typing in PING and shit and she was able to figure out what was wrong by my descriptions and she figured out it was the router, and she even provided me with the Linksys' 24 hour tech support center! I was impressed, but I was scared that Id be on the phone with them for hours and resigned myself that I would likely be waiting till the weekend without any internet until Reefdweller could fix it for me (as usual). So I called Linksys and was connected with another hot sounding girl named Junita and she also had me doing the IP dance and PING shit and she gad me unplug everything and reset it and I was back up in minutes! I was impressed yet again! So, I remembered that I had filled up with gas last night and the attendant in the gas station was unable to print me a receipt and I was worried so I called American Express and talked with Abdul in Pakistan who assured me that everything was ok.

Have you had positive Customer Service experiences?

I've always been happy with Adelphia's customer service. About a year ago, when they were in the middle of upgrading, the service would go down 3 or 4 times a month. I was happy almost every time I called. Since the upgrade, it's only gone down about twice, and I've still been happy with them.

Any company where a person actually answers on the first ring:

BlueNile.com
Merrill Lynch

Cingular was also very helpful in person when I threw my phone and broke it in two.

I worked for a long time as a glorified customer service manager and like to think I provided pretty good phone to some crazy-ass people, so I always appreciate helpful CS.

Oh, and trust me, if the girl is working in customer service for a cable company, she's not hot. If she were hot, she'd have a higher paying job.

I've always had good luck with Cablevision too. A couple of years ago, I kept losing my cable internet service. So step by step, they would have me reset my IP address and then ping it. After three calls and at like 11 PM on a Sunday, the guy figured out that someone was stealing my IP address. So he blocked them from the Optimum Online service, and I have never had a problem since.

and wow, Dan's still alive.

its becoming ridiculous now with every companies customer service based in pakistan.it has infected XM now. when i first got it there was always an american person helping me now its all foreigners. Delphi customer sevice stinks, they never answer and want you to leave them a message so they can call you back and of course they always call at the worst possible time. Specmo customer service is decent. When Ron and Fez go to XM and you guys start getting xm youll know what im talking about

Cingular and dell are pretty good with CS.

Dell can suck my nuts!!! I called them for one thing, and for a 30 minute call-15 was on hold, 10 was them trying to sell me shit I don't need (it's a home computer, why the FUCK are they trying to sell me small business crap I have no use for) and a whole 5 minutes was answering a couple questions (3 basically yes or no questions, but they wouldn't give me a clear answer)

Other than that Dell's a solid company as far as their product goes

Last night, Reefdweller and Angel Amy and I went to a Cingular store, because both him and I got our phones the same time and the contract is up in November. The thing is, when Cingular bought out AT&T, they type of phones we have started becoming obsolete because of the type of signal they use and our service has been geting shittier and shittier and we are constantly dropping calls.

Anyway, we figured we would go to the store and see what kinds of plans they have now and if they could cut us a deal if we both sign up for a new contract by buying new phones and I wanted to get another extra phone for my wife. I figured if we entice them with the prospect of getting 3 new accounts, that they would throw us a bone, upgrade the phone or throw us some extra stuff like a belt clip or whatever.
The girl in the store was an absolute "by the book" what Id call a "stone wall" and she wasnt giving anything or doing anything, and it was pissing me off! But because my brother has been having nothing but trouble with his old phone, he was really anxious to get an new one and they did have a cool new Motorola and he bought it and signed up with them. I figured Id wait till November or try another store with maybe a more receptive person in there who might throw me a bone.
They had a problem setting up his new phone (couldnt trasnfer his phone book, activate the phone, problems with his sim card, etc)and it ended up taking like 2 hours. Meanwhile, Amy had to take a piss and we ask the girl if she could use the bathroom and she wouldnt even do that for us! What a sucky Customer Service experience!

I don't understand why companies are switching to voice activated menus instead of touch tone menus. Was it really that difficult to press a button or do they think it's somehow reassuring to for someone to speak to a machine? It's the most frustrating thing because now, you not only have to guide your way through a maze-like phone tree, but you have to keep repeating yourself because the stupid machine on the other end of the phone can't understand your Brooklyn accent.

sr71blackbird

AND, you cant fake that you have a rotary phone so you can get to a customer service person faster! They want you to be in the maze. I hate them, and sometimes I just say gibberish or hit keys just to get away from it.

I've found that for cell phones, the best service and deals come by calling the company directly.

The stores are all franchises, so they're not looking to give you any deal, and they don't even know all the programs and options available.

For example, I have T-Mobile and the battery on my ohone was conking out. So I figured instead of buying a new $35 battery for an old phone I'd see how good a new phone I could get from them for about $35-50. Their website didn't have any decent deals on good phones for existing customers, so I called CS. By the end of the conversation, they gave me a new, FREE Motorola V300 camera phone and all I had to do was agree to stay with them for another year. Not much of a sacrifice on my part, since I was planning on doing that anyway...

This isn't about a customer service phone call. It's about an incredible "in house" service call.

Our digital cable had been sketchy since a tree knocked down our line, and they came to fix it. A Comcast guy came by today to fix the problem. He replaced all of our in home cables with high grade cables. He gave us a better signal amplifier. When I asked him if I should buy some better cables to run from my splitter (I split the line coming into my room. One line goes to the cable box, the other one goes to my TV tuner card in my computer), he custom cut two more cables for me for free.

We practically had to FORCE the guy to accept a $20 tip. Yay Comcast service guy!!!!

I rarely ever get good customer service, and when I do it's only in person and never online or over the phone.

Without fail, every time that I call T-Mobile, they always ask me personal questions to pretend they care and make small talk. It's really annoying. I'm just calling to get an answer to a question, I don't need to tell you what my plans are for the weekend.

When I'm in the office, I always add in a couple of crazy stupid statements to catch who's listening. You should see some people's reactions.

Next time they ask you something like how was your weekend or something, make something outrageous up.

AT&T Mobile just made me very happy!!!

Two months ago, I got a Blackberry Pearl. I had been paying $20 bucks a month on my old phone for the media package (internet), but it wasn't compatible with the blackberry. I just called them to try to figure out a blackberry plan that would still give me unlimited M2M text. Not only did they hook me up, but they credited me $40 bucks for the two months of the useless media package!

I just had a great experience with ATT today as well. I had a problem with activating 2 iphones and keeping our cell phone numbers, and the chick in OK - I asked her where she was while we waited for activation - helped me through the whole process AND gave me her personal email address in case the billing was screwed up. I was impressed.

(although, the help line was CLOSED on Sunday. Completely closed. I thought that was strange)

Keep in mind that it may seem cool to name your kid a unique name but it may have drawbacks. Try to picture yourself 5 yrs from now @ Disney explaining to little (insert name here) why he or she can't find their name on any of the "personalized" merchandise.
You'll get to pay extra for cheap mugs, license plates, badges, key chains............. for the rest of their lives.
