Two more years on Halladay, but they have some options in there. The Jays also have two younger pitchers throwing some great games (Towers and Chacin), and Batista closing things out nicely (yes the Jays actually have some wins this year).

As for Hinske, they found a hitch in his swing and the correction has helped a little. I have to give him credit last year though bc he worked his ass off to become a better 3rd baseman. He cut his errors by more than half and now gets moved to 1st. This year his fielding at 1st has been better than I expected, but he does need to up his production if he is to be of any value as a 1st baseman. He truly needs to cut down on his strike outs, via swinging for the fence all the time.

Hinske .262 7 doubles 4 HR 19 RBI 13 BB 30 SO 3/3 SB 1 error OBP .350

Watch out for three other youngsters:

Alex Rios Once the Toronto brass give up trying to make him a power hitter, they'll realize his value as a great hitter and fielder who can steal bases too. This guy is perfect for the #2 spot. His power will come as he fills out, but he'll never hit more than 25 HRs.

Russ Adams A good fielding SS who continues to surprise me day in and day out. He has started to hit the ball unlike any Jays SS since Tony Fernandez. It has been a long time.

Reed Johnson Been around a litte longer than the others, but continues to up his production. In fact, with Vernon Wells (if he could get his fn game going) at center field, the Johnson/Wells/Rios outfield could be the best overall defensive (including three great arms) in the AL/MLB.

As for hitting, even with Wells at his productive norm, they will never put up the power numbers of some other outfields, but perhaps could be one of the better hitting crews. It's hard to compete with the Angels offensive outfield (Vlad, Finley & Anderson)on any level though even with Finley's avg so down (still hitting for power though). Strangely enough, the Mets have finally put together a full outfield with Floyd, Beltran and Cameron. In fact, they easily have the best outfield in NYC. When was the last time you could say that?

Jays 7-0 in the second against the world champs. Russ Adams with a 3 run double, Johnson led off the game with a triple, Hinske with a 2 run HR and got his average back up to around .290, Chaucin (rookie) pitching very well, Hill (rookie) and Wells with walks, and Rios the only one not helping out thus far. All, I repeat all, Blue Jay drafted players.

"Chad Gaudin will take Bush's spot on the roster and in the rotation, replacing one young arm with an even younger one."

This move can't hurt the Jays. First, Bush was 0-5 on the year. Second, the Jays were 2-8 in all his games started. Yes this Gaudin kid is young, 22, but he should give them at least 3 to 4 wins out of 10. That alone will pick the Jays up another notch. Hell, if he can pitch anywhere close to the other rookie, Chaucin, the Jays might actually make some news. The other X factor is that Lilly is finally hitting his stride. His era in the last two starts is 1.38. He missed all of spring training and his first two starts due to an injury. Unfortunately they had to slot him right in since the Jays couldn't buy it's rotation like so many teams do in the division.

The kid pitched pretty good, 5 innings 7 hits, 2runs and 6 K's. So he goes 1-0 on the year, needing only two more wins in the next nine starts (the team not Gaudin) for this move to pay off. However, the bullpen looked really bad. Wells is coming alive, 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. Hill continues to play like a top notch vet.

Close to the halfway through the season and my boys are sitting at .500 seven games out. It looks bad as far as contending bc the Sox are hitting their stride and Curt isn't even back yet. However I'm pretty content. It's nice to be within a good winning streak from being at the top of the division. I'd love to say they will contend for the wild card, but I think the pitching is a little too thin (especially with Lilly being so up and down) and they really need a power hitter in the lineup. But hey, they aren't giving up, so I sure as hell won't give up hope. Believe it or not, the new management of the team said that they gave JP the go to spend $160 million extra over the next two years. If things go well, they've stated they could up that number. Surely a nice change for this team, but JP rightfully stated he won't waste money on a rental. He'll only make moves that will have a multi-year impact, in the style of the Twins when they're in the hunt. Their GM is fucking awesome and I bet nobody knows his name without looking it up. He's got to be one of the best in baseball.

Big 15-2 win against Boston last night. Lilly looked anything but solid, but got out of jams when he had to. The Jays look like they're getting hot for the first time all year. They've only managed 4 wins in a row all year and they'll be going for that tonight. Things just seem to be falling in place of late, and I've never seen a Blue Jay team play harder.

So far this year they are 7-2 against the Sox. Far cry from last year. Sounds like they may deal Lilly (heard Boston in the mix) and Hudson. But who the fuck knows anymore? I'm just happy I finally have a fun/exciting team to watch again. Now if they could get a hitter with some pop in his bat, as the Jays are very light on home run hitters. Fucking Carlos would have been nice this year.
