View Full Version : Oldest band you've ever seen

Now that The Rolling Stones are on tour, it got me thinking about older acts I've seen. I saw The Who in 1989 at Giants Stadium (awesome!). I saw the Grateful Dead (not so awesome) in the early '90s. I've also seen Todd Rundgren a few times.

What's the "oldest" band you've ever seen?

I saw the Pixies when they reunited last year...just saw Paul Westerberg a few weeks ago...

Oh yeah, I was unfortunate enough to see the Sex Pistols when they reunited in the 90's.

I think that's the oldest band I've ever seen live.

I can't top your Who or Dead, but I saw the KISS reunion/greatest hits/re-inventing of Alive II tour a few years ago.

Oldest band for me is probably the Grateful Dead several times from '84-90 or '91. Oldest solo was Jerry Lee Lewis back in the early '80s.

I saw The Dead last year (what's left of 'em), I've also seen Steve Miller Band, The Allman Brothers Band, George Thorogood and the aformentioned Rolling Stones.

I'm surprised the Stones are touring. Mick is 61. So is Keith. How he survived is beyond me!

I heard they gave a great show. More power to them. But to be honest, I don't want my rock idols touring in their 60s.

I remember my dad when he was 60-- wearing a v-neck white t-shirt, cut off shorts, black supp hose, and flip flops. And that WAS when my idols were in their prime!

No thanks! ::shudders::

I saw Chicago two years ago at Jones Beach and they were surprisingly awesome.

Oldest could have been John Lee Hooker who I saw at the Beacon Theatre about 10 years ago. He was 115 years old at the time.

The Moody Blues, Eric Claption, Yes (the union tour--so it was Everybody), and ZZ Top. All around 1990 or 1991.
I saw Iggy Pop, Blondie, The Speicals, and The English Beat at HFStivals in the early to mid 90s.
Probably more, but that's all I can think right now.

I don't know why I bother to talk music with you people becaue no one knows what I'm saying, but for me it was SUFFOCATION.

They are one of the originators of the New York Death Metal sound, and they started a following of loyal fans and imitators.

We played a show with them and it was great. I got to walk up to the drummer and let him know he was an inspiration for me to play brutal music. Nice guy, great drummer. Mike Smith.

But honestly, in their mid 30's they're not even close to joking about being old musicians with the Stones still touring. They're just older Death Metal musicians.
