View Full Version : How Many Dogs Are Too Many?

I delivered pizza to a small 2 bedroom apartment last night, that had (at least) eight Pugs. I counted eight, but I can't say there weren't more. The dogs I saw were on the porch, and I had no view of the inside of the apartment. If it was you, at what point would you call the SPCA?

Did the dogs look healthy? Did the house smell? Were the dogs infested with fleas/ticks? Were they fearful of you? Did they have wounds?

Unless you know for sure, mind your own business.

"We sound just like Cheap Trick only the guitars are louder," - Kurt Cobain "I prefer to listen to Cheap Trick." -Homer Simpson

I agree with Alice minus the harsh ending. Eight pups is hard and stupid for a such a small place. You would think 2 max is normal for a small apartment, and anything as high as 8 would constitute having a decent size yard for the little guys. Yet if they're taken care of, it's their choice.

quote:

Where do you deliver pizzas?

In Winchester, Va. The neigborhood is one where half of the residents like to try to have pit bulls as pets. Most of the people who live there, end up abandoning the dogs. If you do a search of adoptable pets here, most of them end up being pits. I'm not saying pits and pugs are the same thing, but I'm worried about this becoming the start of a new trend.

also... I couldn't get a good look as to the dog's condition. I was at the door, doing the pizza transaction, while the dogs were all trying to escape from the porch. Granted... that's something dogs all tend to do, when the pizza guy is around. I was just concerned. It was very abnormal

Eight is a large number but unless the dogs look malnourished or uncared for, I wouldn't call the humane society.

Maybe he is a backyard breeder? Were the dogs young? There is an epidemic lately of people "Hoarding" animals, keeping way too many in their house and also keeping dead animals. They just arrested the former mayor of Beverly Hills for having over 200 malnourished animals in her house, along with a rotting Great Dane.

Now, to play devil's advocate, I once had 10 cats. BUT - I was living in a large house and they all went outside. I did have 4 cats in a 2 Bedroom apartment and that was a bit much (I now have 3 in a 2 Bedrooom)

When you're homless because you're feeding 14 dogs, that's to many.

I mean I wouldn't want to live with a million dogs, and I know the kind of place you're worried their house could turn into, but it's hard to judge. Like people are saying, if they're cared for and that many pets isn't violating some renters contract, it's not fair to bring a shit storm down on them with the SPCA and the like. Maybe they are puppies and they're giving them away.

But if you think it's a "See My Vest" kind of deal, go in there with your guns drawn!

Seriously
though, Alice is right. As long as they're well cared for, no problemo.
People are allowed to be enthusiasts of a breed. The fact that they're
all the same breed tells me he/she's a pug lover. I know someone in the
west villiage that has 6 pugs. Not a breeder, just loves the breed.

Yeah. Its only my second litter, but I plan on doing more. Probably one
a year. Its great fun to have a house full of puppies, even if only for
8-10 weeks. And its something you can really get into, if you do it for
the right reasons.

if you can take care of the # of pets you have, it's ok. but when you're place stinks/ or the animals look malmourished, no go.

just a month ago this place down the street that sells flowers burned down. i had previously bought flowers for someone in the hospital a yr an 1/2 earlier, reaked of dog piss and their were great danes everywhere. after the fire, they pulled out 18 dead dogs.

i would have figured something would have been done about it, but i personally didn't know what to do at the time.

In this installment of OLD THREADS from 2005, PapaBear asks, "How many dogs is too many?"

A good topic that needs revisitng. Hopefully his career path has taken him out of the ranks of pizza delivery boy by now but I again ask; (in leu of PapaBear asking it) How many dogs is too many?
