I ask you, how could a dvd set that is FOUR DISCS long...a set that clocks in at OVER THIRTY HOURS LONG

NOT CONTAIN THE LED ZEPPLIN REUNION?!?

Besides Queen, wasn't Led Zep the "big deal" that day!?! Sure...they sucked. Plant can't hit ANY notes and Phil Collins didn't really know the songs but, C'MON!! They aren't on the dvds and they aren't mentioned in the booklet. RIP OFF.

The Power Station was there that day and they also were not included. Tony Thompson (who also played with Zep that same afternoon) really got the shaft on this box set. Unlike Led Zep, Power Station ARE listed on the box so....I need to have a little talk with the lush that slapped this thing together.

I wanna take these dvds and throw them in Bob Geldofs tired face.

Somewhere back home I have the original VHS recording of the Zep performance. I can't believe it was already 20 years ago. Christ, I'm getting old.

As sick as I am of the song, "Stairway" sounded best that day.

Nobody even mentions Led Zep whenever I see Live Aid talked about on TV...so they must have sucked more musical cock than usual that day and REALLY blew. Probably best forgotten.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't an intentional slight of Zeppelin. I believe it was some kind of rights issue -- Zeppelin didn't give them rights to use the performance. When live Aid was organized, there were no plans to release the concert on video. Therefore, in order to release the DVDs, I beleive they had to negotiatiate with each artist to allow the performances to be released.

I read the booklet that comes with the DVDs and they do mention that much of the JFK stadium footage was "not recorded and archived" at Bob Geldofs request. (copyrights, clearances, rebroadcast issues...yada yada yoda)

My main gripe is that, there is no way to know this BEFORE the purchase. (obviously the booklet is on the inside of the box). My point is...the box set is very long and very expensive and there is no reason to just ASSUME that one of the biggest acts of the entire event would not be included. The whole thing just smells bad.

So...I downloaded the entire performance. I can not exaggerate how hilariously bad LedZep was that day. I only wanted the performance because Tony Thompson is a bad muthaf'cker on the drums and I wanted to see him play those songs. But, even HE could not salvage this suckfest. Memo to Robert Plant: YOU CAN'T SING. Memo to Jimmy Page: YOU'RE SLOPPY...AND TURN OFF THAT SUCKY FLANGER PEDAL.

Somewhere I may still have videos I taped off tv that day. I'll have to look.

And
Queen is considered the definitive performance of Live Aid. To
see all those people clapping during Radio Gaga is still pretty amazing.

It's worth mentioning that you can CLEARLY hear Elton John snort two lines of blow after he walks off stage. I guess he was still holding his live microphone with his "plate hand" and a straw in the other. Brian May (who was onstage playing a soft acoustic guitar intro at that time) looks off to stage right and makes a "are you f'cking kidding me?!?" face.

Ahh, the wonders of dvd.

(PS: Fenix, you disabled the R&F private messaging so....A friend downloaded the Zep performance a while back and he doesn't remember which service he used. The file size is over 200mb and the mpeg quality is pretty poor. Not as poor as the acutal performance but, still...pretty bad. My AIM screen name is; puffysticker . Hit me up.)

"I'm looking for the 'Make Believe Ballroom'....Don't get fresh, Buddy!"
