How many times is this country going to allow this bullshit to go on before someone steps up? Is someone EVER going to step up? Bill Maher is not an idiot, but he says idiotic things sometimes and that's his fucking right and I'm sick of government reps spitting on the constitution like this.

But it's ok. If they are late on their payments, than always go to one of those places that lend you money against your next paycheck at 20% interest.

Military recruiting off by 42% of the goal. Congressman attacks the media figure who talks about it. I blame the people who voted for this Stalinist-wannabe. "Treason" is a serious fucking charge and when it's allowed to be thrown around as glibly as it has since 9-11, (Coulter's two consecutive books "Treason" and "Slander" were top five best-sellers for their respective years - does anyone see the inherent hypocracy there?!), there's something seriously defective with our political culture. Extremism is mainstream! And it's getting worse by the day.

Let me see if I can get all this in one post1) First of all,
what he said was shitty and unfair. Are there alot of morons in the
Military? You bet. Are there alot of morons in most other fields of
work? You bet. Including Comedians and Congressmen. To say that a
profession has alot of idiots, a few smart people, and the rest are
mediocre can be applied to everything.    
2) HE'S A COMEDIAN, STUPID! WHY ARE YOU TAKING HIM SERIOUSLY? 
3) Bill Maher has a show NOBODY watches, and the best thing that
could happen is a controversy like this. But I suppose nobody's ever
heard of this Congressman either, and now he's got himself some name
recognition as well. Maybe WE should be smart and not pay attention to
EITHER of them. 
4) Bill Maher wimps out and says he "Supports the troops". No
you dont. And why does EVERYONE think they have to say that? You're
allowed to not support the Troops, aren't you? Does everyone have to
THINK the same way? Be a man and tell us what you really think, and
lets debate it. I think you'll lose the debate, but people should feel
independant enough to have their own opinions on every issue. 
5) Nobody should overreact to this stuff. One Congressman's opinion is only slightly more meaningful than anyone elses.

I don't think he was saying exactly that, but I supposed it was implied. But, more accurately would be to keep his comments in the context of the issue - the recruiting shortfalls. If the military can only reach a little more than half its recruiting goal, then they're going to have to do one of two things: lower standards or go understaffed. Clearly these are objectionable situations and his joke went with assuming the first scenerio, (no doubt because he thought of the expression "low-lying fruit", wich is a great expression, and wanted to work it in). And it is relevant to the implied meaning of the recruiting shortage - it links with a common opinion, (within the military), that the Iraq war has hurt recruiting. I do know people who assume that military people are bad people, but I don't think Mahr is one of them. 2) HE'S A COMEDIAN, STUPID! WHY ARE YOU TAKING HIM SERIOUSLY? The most important point that could be made on the subject. Voting for someone who has attacked the comedy stylings of anyone on political grounds is like picking up a prostitute after you've seen the tampon string hanging down - YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR! (This may not be the best analogy for this board. Freaks.)Any time a politician makes public statements about pop-culture figures like this there's only one thing you need to know about it: He's making those statements in lieu of doing his job/. There are life and death issues before Congress at every possible moment. When they waste public airtime to make these pronouncements it's because they don't want to deal with what you hired them for. I don't care if you like or dislike Maher, the issue here is that a Congressman throws around treason attacks and it's another attack on free speech.  Maher was simply stating that recruiting is down due to this war and they have picked all the "low hanging fruit" or the poor and people in life with little choice.  The fact that BC turned this thread into Maher bashing shows me a lot.  Can the media say anything about this administration that they don't like?  I guess Rep. Bachus isn't an arrogant asshole huh Shaka.  Maher isn't threatening our way of life, this admininstration is and I'm so fucking sick of it.
