Sooo, thanks the great folks at Six Flags Great Adventure, I had the run of the park yesterday.

Medusa is still my favorite ride in the park, but for pure speed and adrenaline, it doesn't compare to Kingda Ka, the fastest, tallest coaster in the world.

I thought it was Linear Induction, but I was wrong - it's a hydraulic based system, so it doesn't throw you around as much as Batman and Robin, which is one of the rides at SFGA that I'm not a huge fan of.

It's a fast ride (only 40 seconds), and the lines are tremendously long, but bar none, it's a great coaster experience. It's not very creative (go fast, go high), but still, it's a ton of fun.

What are YOUR thoughts on Kingda Ka or the rest of the rides at Six Flags?

0-128 in 3.5 seconds, that is amazing.

Roller Coasters make me motion sick. Very gay, I know. But never the less, I don't go on them. I went on something called like "The Ninja" (no, not AIDS) or some shit out in Missouri's Six Flags and I was dizzy the rest of the day.

I heard that when they were testing that
they had test dummies coming back after the ride with limbs missing,
and that they had to delay opening the ride because of it. The only
thing about that I know for sure is true that the ride's opening was
delayed; it was only open for like half a season during its first
year.

I checked some coaster boards about this Test Dummy story - all are inaccurate lies and bullshit rumors being spread.

For a dummy to "fly from the train" is beyond me. I have been hearing this rumor for about a week now... and all I can say is Wow! People believe anything they hear huh? First of all, yesterday was Monday, and they were closed, they start daily ops this Thursday. 2ndly, the restraints are held in by hydraulics, a seatbelt, and the shoulder harness is PROBABLY held in by a "clicking lock system" I am not 100% sure on the last part, but even still, BOTH hydraulic tubes on the harness would have failed and the seatbelt would have snapped. How they can both break boggles my mind. Did you also hear that the dummies were coming back into the station without arms and legs?

This is accurate. Most coasters at SFGA have a hydraulic restraint system that's also held in by a seatbelt. Double-failure safety. Kingda Ka has this.

and I heard it from people who worked there. It didn't open on time. It

close down AGAIN after opening. It wasn't opened full-time until the

I wasn't talking about Kingda Ka. I wasn't even
trying to insinuate anything about it. Batman and Robin, on the other
hand, I never trusted it, and don't know anyone who even enjoys it.

And
let's not have a Great Adventure discussion. I live in Jackson, I
worked there, I have known people who have worked at just about every
position in the park. And I got stories.

For starters, there's NO
security there off-season. When I was interviewing there a few years
ago, I had to talk to people in loss prevention, whose offices are
inside the boundaries of the park, but not in the public area. Well, I
got lost, went into the park, walked around for 5 minutes, and left
without anyone knowing I was there.

Or there are the conspiracy
theories that the tiger from that Jackson tiger fiasco was from Great
Adventure, and that the town was so desperate to protect the safari and
its tax revenue that it framed the crazy tiger lady. File that under
crazy rumors.

For the record, there's been 10 deaths at SFGA from three incidents.

1) Park employee dies on Rolling Thunder while testing it. Fell out because he was unrestrained. (early 80's)

2) Girl falls out of Lightning Loops. Fiance gets a re-ride, but she leaves. When she realizes he's getting a re-ride, she re-boards, but doesn't get harnessed correctly. Ride operator launches w/o checking. Girl dies. Next to her FIANCE. Goddamn, that's gotta suck.

3) The fire at the Haunted Mansion in 1984, which kills 8.

I cant comment on Kingda Ka directly but I was on it's almost exact twin at Cedar Point last summer, Top Thrill Dragster. Pretty much the same ride but a little shorter and slower, but that rollercoaster was amazing. Everyone on it was clapping and cheering when it came back into the loading dock thing. Riding it was a blast as well. Even though it was only a few seconds long it was worth the hour+ wait that it took it get on. Nothing else out there compares to that ride, well, nothing else compared to it until Great Adventure opened up it's own version this year. I am sure it is just as good and more.

As for all the injuries and what have you, most of those bugs were worked out at Cedar Point over the past year. Read about it here.I think that the one at Six Flags can be considered the version 2.0 of the Cedar point one. They built it there, worked out the bugs, then made a better version here in NJ.

------------------------------------------
