Jack is this new format that's sweeping the country. For the most part as far as I know it's a mix of everything from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and current music all mixed up and supposedly random.

I just found info this on a website...

The variety format began in Canada three years ago, and migrated into U.S. markets a little more than a year ago. While the original Canadian formats, called Jack and Bob, differ somewhat -- Bob introduces more new music and Jack sticks to older hits -- they and other U.S. variety stations share some basic themes.

They're heavy on the '80s and '90s. They play mainly hits, but hits that haven't been heard on the radio for a while. They aren't afraid of ''train wreck'' segues, running, for example, a classic rock hit into an '80s pop confection.

But compared to a normal station Jack Radio formats do not use DJ's, instead opting for short patronizing voice overs with lame post modern attitude between the tracks.

that will get annoying real quick ...

It's an all automated radio program that the Canadians started, and it
will put more people out of jobs and continue destroying terrestrial

This actually won't affect 101.5 at all. They'll be the only station playing "oldies", but that's a 48 hour format on weekends, for a station that proudly brands itself as being NOT New York.

The more I think about it, the big winner in all of this could be the Satellite radio companies.

Blink's format was never tried before, really, and doing it in market #1 w/o testing first was suicidal. Where IS Kingston now?

the only reason it maybe had some success is because it is slighlty different, but people will learn to hate it soon enough. or maybe the public has just been broken by comerical radio and will accept it.

And in homes, condos and retirement facilites around the Tri State, senior citizens angerd by the Format Flip got out of their comfortable chairs, took up a pen and paper, suddenly became afraid they left the stove on, went to check, got a small cup of apple sauce, and totally forgot what day it was.
