I was on it. I didn't have any real side effects to speak of, other than headaches when I first started taking it. The one word of advice I would give you though is be sure to take it everyday. I was on a pretty high dosage and if I skipped a day I'd get the "zaps." I'd feel little "shocks" in my body, sort of like when you just realized you lost your wallet.

Ive been on it for many years. The side effects IVE exerienced are: dry mouth ( although this goes away over time), sleep changes - dreams are effected and amounts of sleep. And orgasm - they are all messed up..youll see what i mean.

Like the others said - dont skip a day, and when your weaning off it, do it slooowly.

The stuff works however - youll feel less anxious and down in the dumps. For me it lowered the volume on ALL my emotions, so while its true i was less anxious and depressed i was also experiencing far fewer happy moments...it just numbs you out.

Go on it and your goal should be to GET OFF IT after a certain amount of time ( 1year etc...) so you dont use it as a crutch.

ps - i was on 175 mg per day.

Good luck.

I took Paraxotine (Paxil) for a few months. I noticed exactly ZERO effects...good OR bad. Nothing.

A friend of mine said he was on an antidepressant that made him impotent but, maybe just lost his mojo.

Whatever you do...take the entire dose that is prescribed for you. That seems to be the key to success with any medication. Good luck.

I don't really have any decent input on this subject, but I just wanted to say that "just lost your wallet" comparison is very good. I wouldn't have known what you meant by "zaps" if not for that description, and we all know what that feels like. It's something that's hard to describe, but you got it. Also, when you see a large bug in your apartment... or you realize you just erased something on your hard drive that you spent 3 weeks working on.

A friend of mine said he was on an antidepressant that made him impotent but, maybe just lost his mojo.

Most of the SSRI's have a nasty side effect of making it nearly impossible to reach orgasm. I would believe it has something to do with it regulating your seratonin.
