When I first started listening to Ron and Fez I found the boys' use of the word "anymore" jarring and confusing. Now I find it soothing ... there is a certain expressed meaning that I like.

One of my favorite calls from the WNEW days was a guy saying he wasn't sure Ron's grammar was correct. What day was that?

Yeah, that whole "anymore" thing KILLS me. People (not just Ron and Fez) use it so incorrectly that I find it distracting. Sometimes...I don't even pay attention to the rest of their sentence because I'm fixating on that wacky "anymore" usage. It's just a pet peeve of mine, I guess.

I'm the same way with "ALL". That's the other word that is forever being mis-used. As in.... " Who all is gonna' be there?" or "Where all are you guys going?".

Argh!

I think what they do is they use "anymore" instead of "nowadays".

Next time they use "anymore" see if "nowadays" fits better. 9 times out of 10 it does...

The two words are not at all interchangeable yet, for some reason, people started using "anymore" instead of "nowadays" or "from now on". I wonder how that happened. It's bizarre.

We were talking about this at my job today and we observed the following:

Something about the word ANYMORE implies a certain "negativity". It also implies the past-tense.

YES: "People don't drink Pepsi anymore"

NO: "People always drink Pepsi anymore."

or....

YES: "They aren't any good sitcoms anymore"

NO: "The networks only make Reality Shows anymore"

For some unexplained reason, Ron, Fez, and other people starting using it incorrectly. Does anyone know how that started? Is it from a show or movie or something?
