I just got an internship at Antietam National Battlefield! (http://www.nps.gov/anti/)

Its pretty awesome so far. I wrote up there asking if they had anything I could do, and they responded in kind. They have records on every unit involved in the battle, with various documents and stuff, and i am going to go through each file and make an inventory of what's in there...doesn't sound like fun, but I think its a blast just to go through those records and see the kind of stuff they have on file...

Plus I do various other things the Chief Historian asks me to do, like to-day someone wrote in from Tennessee requesting various pictures of certain landmarks, so i drove around and took them...

I'm not getting paid, but hopefully I can establish a good enough network to get a job as a Ranger guide up there when I graduate from TerpTown in 3 semesters

Here's some pics of the field if you've never been there(I didn't take these)

The Sunken Road(today)

The Sunken Road after the battle

Stephen Lee's Battery(With Dunker Church in Background) Today

The same place after the battle

Here's "Burnside's Bridge"

And the Info tablet near it with the Whiskey Story(too big to put here)

http://www.civilwaralbum.com/antietam/tour9_2a.htm

I've always loved history...ever since I was a kid and learned I had an ancestor in the war...it's really one of the few things I can talk with my Pops about...

Very cool El Mundo! I get into Civil War history too, since my town (Winchester) is such a big part of the war.

Yup... Winchester's cool. We have the Civil War, Patsy Cline, and one of the world's largest tire fires (or tar far) in history! That's why we affectionately call it Funchester.

Congratulations Mudo. That sounds like a great opportunity.

I went by Antietam a couple of times but never really checked it out. It's a pretty big site from what I recall.

And remember, Harper's Ferry isn't that far away either!

I haven't been up to Harper's Ferry in years, but I used to go there every Christmas as a kid...loved it...got to know the olde towne so well I could recognize what part they used as Fredericksburg in "Gods and Generals"....I also climbed Maryland Heights a couple times...

I always liked how you could stand on the shore there and look into 3 States at one point...
