View Full Version : U.S. Worse Than China

An international poll found that the world views China more favorably than the United States.

To
some of the inevitable replies: No, the world doesn't hate us no matter
what we do, and they've never hated us this much.

And I'm sure the inevitable "Who the fuck cares" attitudes that will soon be expressed has nothing to do with it.

This
isn't good. You can't give the finger to the world and then expect them
to like or even help us. This is a huge fucking problem. The Communists
are more popular than us, the fucking country responsible for Tianneman
Square is more popular than us.

I guess it's a good sign that the
Bush administration has been showing SOME attention to this (The Bolton
nomination notwithstanding), but I have a feeling that this can't be
fully repaired until Bush leaves office. At least they're acting
positively towards the spreading democracy rhetoric.

I'm the first to agree that it's a huge problem, but that pole may be slanted. Five of the 11 countries that liked China better are mostly Muslim and one of the 2 that chose us (India) hates Muslims and fears China.

However, you are totally right that the people who don't care what the rest of the world thinks, are part of the problem. I long for the "We love you USA" days following 9/11.

I didn't mean to imply that I long for anything to do with 9/11. I wasn't very clear in what I said. I should have put more thought into that statement. What I meant was, we had a large portion of the world behind us for a while. It didn't take long for us to blow that support, though.

I use the word "us", because it's convenient, by the way. The definition of "us" is cause for an entirely new topic.

PB, I didn't think you meant any ill will either. I just went off on a tangent. Yet you are right in that we fucked up the one good thing that immediately came from 9/11. But can anyone name anything Bush has handled well? With the exception of running up our debt, sending our troops to the wrong place based on lies,.....I'll stop before I piss myself off so early in the morning.

Get your balls out of your purse and step up to flavor!
Please. The US military is bigger than the next 5 nations combined.
No country's going to bomb us anytime soon, unless they want to become
the 51st state.

And am I surprised by this? No. Nothing new. We
provide security and stability for alot of these nations. We're the Cop

That's the normal stupid response I always hear. Listen, nobody liked the rich fat kid in school who was a spoiled asshole, yet almost everyone hangs with him for his awesome pool, toys, and hot sister. Just bc they're here, doesn't mean they really like us they're here for other things. Let's be honest, we DON'T have the biggest military either. Not by a long shot. China and North Korea alone have huge standing armies well above our numbers including our reserves. We could implement a draft today and it would take years to even come close. Also, we're spread so thin right now if one was to attack us we'd have a lot of problems. The ocean isn't the barrier it once was and our two neighbors don't care for us much right now. Almost all empires/powers fall eventually. When you start to behave the way we are, and believe that no one can touch us or they'll become the "51st state", we seem to be pushing ever closer to the edge. And who says it has to be a bomb that brings us down. Perhaps our debt will end the US as we know it. Recently the Chinese have become the biggest consumer in many major areas, making us a lesser market for the world. Also, China owns so much of our debt it isn't funny. GW can't help himself from going after Public Broadcasting and SS Reform, continuing a 30+ year tradition for the Repubs. I'd love to hear this "conservative" just once focus on an issue that needs attention. But, he does think of Iraq everyday. Glad to hear it George.
Get your balls out of your purse and step up to flavor! With whale cancer! F yeah!

Hold on hold on - If this war were about oil, don't you think we would be paying a whole lot less for oil then we already do? I mean i can take Bush went in and didn't find the WMD's you can even call him a liar about WMD's (but if you do make sure you include: Kofi Annan, Schroeder, Blair, Bill Clinton, etc etc because they all believed it as well) but to say this was about oil is so completely assinine it is beyond comprehension.

If it were about oil then we wouldn't have signed the contracts we did with Gibbon to get ~25% of our oil from them by the year 2012.

And we are bombing anyone we feel like - Bush bombed Iraq without approval of the UN security Council and Clinton did the same to bomb Milosevich - neither was done with approval of the UN but merely to get rid of tyranny in those countries.

What's even worse is we get knocked for not interceding in other conflicts such as Darfur and Zimbabwae - so for the US its lose lose no matter which way you look at it.

Why is there no upheaval in the press about Iran's crooked elections and the fact the new head of Iran has stated he will open ties with every country except Isreal.
Alright fine, if you want to be all logical about it, I can play
ball. I know that they didn't go in for oil, but to please all those
that would disagree (everyone who isn't read on the subject (i.e. alot
of people (liberals))) I said that it was only for oil. Because people
can't take the fact that we made a mistake, now saying that I'm not
sure how big the Oil factor was but I'm sure it was at least there.

But
there's always that side that doubts everything the government does,
and while some of it is unbelievable it is equally believable at the
same time.

As for the bombing thing:

And we are bombing anyone
we feel like - Bush bombed Iraq without approval of the UN security
Council and Clinton did the same to bomb Milosevich - neither was done
with approval of the UN but merely to get rid of tyranny in those
countries.

We've
been bombing Iraq since the first Gulf War and Milosevic was a
jerkface. I'm saying that we aren't just ritually bombing multiple
countries at a time just because we can, we aren't trying to start a
World War - overreactions are just making it seem that way.

explains the entire love/hate relationship the world has with the
United States perfectly. We can't win most situations so I propose we
start to pick only the situations we can win. If we can save face by
helping Darfur I think it's worth it. But if it's going to turn into a

I do however love this country just as John Wayne did, I just want to make it better. Perhaps closer to what it was when he was alive.

I agree with your point on our methods in oil refinery being obsolete. This is due in fact to the oil companies not needing to progress bc it wasn't necessary to increase their profits. In fact, if they were to upgrade it would cut into their record multi-billion dollar profits made this past year. The same companies we look to for energy are holding us back. Just look at the research being put into alternative forms of energy. They have a great racket going, and surely won't end it themselves. In fact, they lobby everyday to keep it going....successfully. The neo-cons, when not in Bush's cabinet, are staffed all over these company boards and hierarchy. Just look at the guy who just got pushed out of Bush's cabinet recently. He left bc of indiscretions while working for Bush on the environment, and immediately gets a high paying job in the energy industry. What a surprise he claimed global warming was a joke. That's the type of people GW hires to protect the environment. Those who are really looking out for energy industry profits.

Get your balls out of your purse and step up to flavor! I don't claim that the republicans created the whole cold war for profits, but I do think they manipulated it to the fullest. The Repubs in Washington found a way to play on the US's fears in order to use a great majority of it's money eventually handed out to specific contracters. Tell me this doesn't sound familiar? Both Bush boys have followed this plan to a T. It's written in many books that we should always be weary of the "miltary industrial complex" and its buildup. That is how they profit from these wars. Hell, GW is back to pushing for fucking the "Star Wars" initiative and 8 billion is still missing in Iraq. This time around they're even getting cocky about it. Eventually something is going to leak out, Deep-Throat style, that will bury this admin. If not, my faith in our country and man will reach an all-time low. The facts simply do not add up.

Also, you can't compare anything that happened under Clinton to these examples. The Neo-cons claimed that he was diverting attention, yet we handled a ethinic cleansing in Europe without losing a single soldier. This was done using the useless UN. The only reason the UN isn't in Iraq is that this admin cares more about profits than lives.
