Am I not asertive enough?

 So after I got off of work I decided to call this girl Ive been seeing. I asked her if she wanted me to come over, figuring it would be nice to see her and all even though I just saw her for about 5 hours at work. So she replies "If you want to" in a kind of I really dont care either way is ok kind of voice. Thats at least the way I took it. So I told her that Im gonna go home, eat and give her a call thinking maybe if I dont call her she'll get curious as to why I didnt call her and she'd invite me over. Of course that never happened. We spoke online a few times and thats about it. She seemed to be pre-ocupied with reading a book she told me. So I took that as Im not in the mood tonight, maybe another night. Nope, I went outside to shoot off a few bottle rockets, when I came back to look at my away messages I got the idea that she was now dissapointed that we're not hanging out. Now I feel like shit and I I dont know what to say. Guess Im gonna have to make it up to her someway somehow. My question, a dumb one if that, should I have called her. Im not big on talking on the phone even if it is small talk. Now I get to see her at 8AM tommorow and try to appologize to her why I didnt call.
