Now I just want to preface my little post here by saying that about 90% of other musicians I meet are way fucking cool.  Even ones that play different styles of music.  To be honest, I know way more musicians that play rock than Metal, and I have zero problem with that.  I'm not an asshole....well, at least when it comes to music I guess.  I listen to and love other forms of music.  Now, on to the point.  Yesterday I met one of the people I started the thread about.  The guy who walks up to you and starts talking music.  That's fine so far.  But they know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about my abilities, what I do, what I play or where I've been, and they just start to talk down to me with what they think is their superior musical ability or experience in the business.  This guy was sitting there talking about all the instruments he played, and shit he's done.  He was pretty full of himself because he seemed at the center of the people who had organize the Battle of the Bands we were at, and he was constantly talking on the mic between bands for attention.  I was polite and talked to him, and it wasn't until later that I thought about our exchange and it bothered me.Listen to me you stupid fuck before I kick you in the throat and watch you choke to death on your own blood.  You know NOTHING about what Unhallowed has done together.  You don't know the distances we've traveled to play shows on our own dime just to try to create a buzz in another state.  You don't know the whole albums of material we've thrown out because we decided something we created wasn't up to par.  You weren't there for the damn near dozen times we've been in the studio on 9 years.  You don't know the personal sacrifices we've made to continue our dream.  You don't know the tension and fights that we've worked through.  The injuries.  The tears.  You don't know DICK ABOUT ME.  And now because you've played a few instruments and done a few out of state gigs, you come over to ME and talk like that?  I owe it to myself that if I ever see this guy again, I'm going to squeeze his neck in a headlock so hard that his fucking spine separates from his skull.  Plus, I'm going to be on the look our DOUBLE TIME for the next Condescending Musician.  This is not the 1st time it's happened, but it really stuck out suddenly.I apologize if this is more a rant then a beginning of a discussion, but I think some of you can add to this.

And I just thought I'd add that I don't think any of the things I've done with Unhallowed makes me any better than anyone else.  We work hard, but there's always people out there working harder.  I KNOW that touring bands work WAY harder than us.  There's bands that pay WAY more dues than us and never get anywhere.  But that's the difference between myself, my band and the musician I started this thread about.  I won't walk up to someone and start rattling off all the places I've played and things I've done like it's supposed to impress them.  They might turn around and one up me anyway.  The point is, don't be a douche.

Only thing I can say about Sting is he has attained a position where he can be a bit of a prick.  The man is a legend.  I guess I was more upset because a guy who is on my level is talking to me like he is somehow better than me.  And he isn't.

Right on, Moe. It's sad to say, but I've run into DOZENS of similar assholes in various bars and clubs through the years, whether I'm just there hanging out or playing with my band.

It cracks me up that some douchebag playing in a bar band thinks he's some sort of star or somehow superior to anyone else in the place.

Some of these losers must lead some boring and pathetic lives, and I guess they're to be pitied.

yea i know that, but thats in a perfect world. business is business. if
we both go in to do business, and i know everything and come in shorts
and a beater, and you go in and know 40% of what i know about it and
are in a suit, im not getting that job, its all about appearances. like
at a party it wouldnt matter, cause i wouldnt wanna know most of those

I know the exact struggle, but when we play shows we always get type cast as some pop punk band, becuz we are younger and we have a chick singer. they don't even give us a chance they judge us on the way we look, and then no matter how well we play and how good or different the music is they never get into it, becuz they have already made thier opinon. which is a bunch of bullshit. and it would mostly be like club owners or something. and only hire us becuz he figure he could dick us out of money. it's so hard being in a band and these fuckers, most are just some fat slob that sits on his ass, tells you to sell at least 50 tickets at 10 bux a piece and then maybe youd get some of the door sales when we just gave this guy 500 bux. and then you get the asshole bands that come on after you thinking they are so much better than you becuz you on before them, it really just pisses me off alot. but here is no better feeling than playing a show and just rocking hard and having all the people get into it. it really just makes you want to put up with it becuz it's still pretty fun playing up on stage with your freinds.

I brings in my snare to be fixed and this long-haired asshole says, "whoa, uh, dude, this thing is a little messed up. do you hit it too hard?...it seems like you hit it  too hard....don't need to hit a snare drum so hard, dude...." at which point i blacked out with rage and the only words i could hear were scattered "dudes" and "uh, dudes" and "ooh, man" and "more careful, dude" and----- SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! HAHAHAHA!!!! So true East Side Dave.  I basically cannot play the drums that Guitar Center sets up in their drum show room because of assholes like that.  Kids come in and beat the electronic kits and real kits all off time and shit all day.  But I sat down awhile ago, started to play some Metal beats, and I got told I needed to stop.  "Play some jazz man" is what I heard from the ass champ behind the counter.  Well guess what douchebag, I don''t play jazz.  Of course I didn't say that because that's when I'd get the condescending attitude that HE could do what I do, but I can't play jazz.  You know what sparky, you can't do what I do.  You can do your musical style and I can do mine.  I don't act like I can do your quick little switch ups off the high hat and your 2nd snare, don't act like you can hold a grind for like 20 straight measures.  These people got balls man.  YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN ME.

I missed your post before C.O.F.  I feel you on the club owners being assholes, but it's their club and their money to be made.  It's the way it's always been and it sucks.  They don't care if you fart into a mic for an hour as long as you bring a drinking crowd.  We were recently asked NOT to come back to a club that they openly admitted we brought a great bar business and nothing was broken.  They didn't like all the energy our crowd showed as we played.  Go figure.  So, we'll bring a good bar business to another local bar that doesn't mind making money.As for prejudging a band, we have run into that too.  Unhallowed has a female bass player named Jenn.  I'm sure that a lot of people think we're going to suck, or most specifically, she's going to suck.  Or that we just have her in the band to bring attention to ourselves.  You know, she just playes some crap in the background, hardly able to keep up. Some utter bullshit.  Fact is she's a great bassist.  But fuck them in the ear.  We get up there and destroy the place, and not to brag but we always have people come up to us after every show, no matter if there's underage kids there or 50 something bar patrons.  Ignore assholes and just play your stuff man.  When you put your passion into your music, people can't help but notice, and they will notice you.

one time i was in this band and we were good and no one gave us a chance because they're jerks and then we played this show and the guy that set it up was like i thought you guys were going to be bad but you weren't that bad and i said see?  just give us a chance and the guy said ok enough with the attitude and i always thought about that night and you know he was right i was being the jerk that night and he was just being a cool dude and i feel bad about it now.  if i ever see him again i'll say man you taught me a alot and i hope that we can be friends because good friends are hard to find.

We won 3rd.  The prick was a judge.  I guess this may sound like a sore loser statement, but the Blink 182 wanna be high school band that was off key and off time won, and we noticed that guy paying special attention to them.  He was somehow involved with them, and was somehow involved with us not winning.  Ehh, whatever.  One judge told us the screaming vocals killed it for him, but no one had the energy, music or prescence we did, period.  If we're gonna get judged against for being who we are, so be it.  We're not going to put clean singing in just to impress people who don't like screaming vocals.  This music's not for them.

we get  oh you play rock/rap mix.you must sound like linkin park.for the love of god, not all punk bands sound the same, not all hardcore bands sound the same, why the fuck would we try and sound the same as someone else.  that's the worst, it's fine from fans or new people as a point of reference, but i know MOST musicians don't want to be compared to a band that they don't really sound anything like, but is in their genre, that really has a lot of elements we aren't even close to. we don't have a dj, we don't have keyboards we don't have a person who sings. if you look at us, we're nothing like linkin park, they have raps in their songs, and we have them in ours that is the ONLY fucking connection.

thats what made the kid who got fucked-up (in front of his girlfriend, i might add) so condesending!   My friend is the singer, and once he puts the mic back in the stand, which he did, he IS done cleaning up.  There were plenty of other people already getting the guitars, amps and drums off stage.   If this joker had asked instead of just shooting his mouth off, maybe he would have known that things were under controll.  And then maybe he wouldnt have had to get himself as lil' taste of hell smashed across his fat lips.

Dirk&Nash Fan:Please don't respond to my threads anymore if you don't understand them.  Your friend was the asshole in that situation.  Drummers that take forever to set up and break down are fucking bullshit and make shows last way too long.  I LOVE the guy with a drum rack, triggers, 15 cymbals, ice bells, roto toms and all that shit.  They never end up hitting half of it and it takes a half hour for him to set it all up.I have a 5 piece kit with 4 cymbals.  I have streamlined what I need, and even axed my 2nd bass drum for the sake of quicker set up and easier gear transport.  I show up early, set up on the floor and move my shit on stage as fast as I can.  That helps keep the show moving and maximizes the time Unhallowed can play.  Then when our time is up, I move whole pieces off stage and break down there so the next drummer doesn't have to wait for me to break down.  It's called common courtesy.  When my shit is packed, I'll help the other bands if they need me to.  Sitting back stage after your set while there are more bands to play is a real dick move.  IF you're the last band, fine.  If you have people to break your stuff down for you, fine. If not, you're a fucking dick.

Ahh, so the singer was too good, not the drummer.  I guess in the end if all their shit was off stage in a timley fashion and the rest of the band doesn't mind the singer not helping them, then it's none of the other band's business.  But I mean he shouldn't be surprised when somone questions him on it.  That move can make you look like a real dick.

and stop editing all your posts.  take your time and get it right the first try.I hate when people do that.  It makes the posts that come after it look insane because they're responding to a completely different point now.  So if I'm going to respond to someone's statement, I'll ususally quote them in my response 1st, to prove they said what I am responding to.  Once it's in my post, they can't change it later to make themselves look good.

I don't want to dog pile on Dirk&Nash, I just didn't like his story, and it didn't keep with the point of the thread.Plus, the move he explained the singer pulling was a fairly dick move.  Let's keep this thread on topic.  I really want to hear about more opinions on condescending musicians.  We had a good discussion going.

Know who I hate the most? The condescending musician who works at a music shop! I brings in my snare to be fixed and this long-haired asshole says, "whoa, uh, dude, this thing is a little messed up. do you hit it too hard?...it seems like you hit it  too hard....don't need to hit a snare drum so hard, dude...." at which point i blacked out with rage and the only words i could hear were scattered "dudes" and "uh, dudes" and "ooh, man" and "more careful, dude" and----- SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! IF YOU ARE SO GOOD AT DRUMMING YOU'D BE PLAYING IN MADISON SQUARE GARDEN AND NOT IN THE MUSIC CENTER IN WALL, NEW JERSEY DON'T TALK DOWN TO ME YOU FUCKING SHITTLE-COCK!!That's the reason I stopped shopping at music stores and started buying online.  Unfortunatly, you obviously can't try stuff out before you buy.  When I used to go to SamAsh on LI they would always dick me around.
