My current girlfriend is trying to talk me into not having sex until marriage and she has a pretty logical argument. She asked me if we got married, which would i prefer: her being a virgin or not being a virgin, and i said being a virgin. So she says if thats the best/ideal situation, then we should strive for that because in life you should strive for your ideals. My rebuttal argument had zero substance. All i could come up with was having sex is a part of life and that i dont think the value of having a virgin wife is worth not having a healthy sex life until marriage, and that she was making sex out to be too special. Then she yells at me for copping out on my ideals and says that if sex isnt that special then she'll just have sex with the neighbors when we're married. Im a pretty logical guy and a lot of me wants to agree with her, but i cant do it. I think the three biggest reasons i cant are 1. Hormones   2. Social Pressure   3.  Its the easy way out- meaning its a lot easier to have sex than to sacrifice and wait. I feel that my decision should rise above those factors and i should be able to agree with her, but i still cant straight up tell her that i can wait till marriage.There's gotta be a good reason to have great wonderful responsible sex before marriage, can anyone help me out.

I'm not ready to get married. I'm 22 and done with college and trying to figure out things- mainly like where i wanna live. A lot of my living options dont coincide with my girlfriends options but thats a whole other can of mess and shit. What i was trying to work through in this thread was the sex before marriage dilemma, and i think i have to agree with Alice. She wants to wait, its pretty much a done deal. But if i ever break up with this girl, part of me feels like i should keep this no sex before marriage vow. But i'm already not a virgin and im pretty sure that would confuse anyone i dated. Itd be pretty fucking silly for two non virgins to not have sex until they were married. I think i would leave it up to the decision of any future girlfriend.

So no, we're still not banging and it hasnt been much of an issue. I agreed with her for awhile about chastity being best but now im coming back to my original position. Im not gonna argue the point with her because its her decision.Her big argument is she asked me if we got married, which would i prefer: her being a virgin or not being a virgin, and i said being a virgin. So she says if thats the best/ideal situation, then we should strive for that because in life you should strive for your ideals. But I think the ideal of me being her only sex partner can apply to lots of situations. I think it would be great if i was the only person she's kissed. Or if i was the only person she loved. Or the only person who cooked a kick ass dinner for her. Or the only person she stayed up talking to through the entire night.         So if being the first is the best, then maybe we should just have our parents arrange our marraiges and skip dating. But thats just absurdity. Finding someone to be in love with is a process. And in that process we're gonna get romantically involved with people. Its a tradeoff. Have a pre-arranged relationship with all the firsts, or find someone that truly clicks with you.I think as you get older, you realize sex isnt a holy grail. Its built up to be so special, but how much more special is it than a kiss. How can you quantify somethings "speciallness?" I like how Bulldogcakes said that chastity was developed mostly as a responce to unreliable birth control. As a culture, we've made sex a whole separate act. Sex is something all of us are capable of doing responsibly, and its something a lot of us are really good at. I dont think sex is something we should be hiding from each other.

That "ideals" argument is just a cop out. She just flat out doesn't
want to have sex before marriage. Your ideal can change any damn time
you want it to. It's your damn ideal. If she can't even be
honest with you and flat out say that she doesn't want to do it because
SHE doesn't want to do it: you have a long row to hoe buddy. You don't
want to be with someone who manipulates everything you say making you the
bad guy in every situation.
