why did Joe Poo get kicked off the show? [Archive]

Being a messageboard "noob", ill apologize in advance for asking a question thats already been answered, or asking it in the wrong place, i believe this to be the most appropriate forum to ask this: what the hell happened to joe poo?im a californian. ive never heard a live RNF show, my introduction to the show has been entirely through recorded mp3's via ODC, and ive been totally hooked ever since.  the one nagging question i have is about joe. he was hilarious, and he seemed to worship ron and fez, so i can only assume he did something REALLY bad to be banished from the show.  ive already gone through the show log, and the last time joe is listed as being on the show is 5/9/02, when he called in pranking the show, and was told by ron "you will never enter this studio again".  Ron seemed genuinely PISSED, but they never explain why or what happened.ive tried downloading shows, and ive been reading through the messageboard, but i cant seem to find an answer....if someone could let me know what  happened id appreciate it because this is bugging the hell out of me.Thanks

I can't remember the ONE thing that decided he should get canned.  I think I just remember some talk about him not doing enough on the show, and he was probably asked to leave by the station.  Or maybe it was Ron and Fez, I don't remember, or they never told us.He would call in afterwards, so maybe it was management that didn't want to pay him anymore.  But I thought Poo was fairly cool.

you bring up a good point moe, no doubt the brilliant Management of Wnew had a hand in this.   They are the geniuses behind hiring Al Dukes after all.  The only time i heard Joe call in(after he'd vanished from the show for a few months) he was only able to get on air by sneaking on with a fake voice and ron seemed pretty pissed at him, thats why it seems like theres something else going on.ah well, some questions will never be answered, i suppose. c'est la vie

so it was just a case of greed, eh?  the seinfeld complex.  he gets on, does pretty well on air, and starts making demands of a higher salary with management, so they toss him?  interesting. thanks for the input. i am curious how you know this, tho. was this on one of the shows? if so do you remember which?

touche...  he wasnt making seinfeld money by a longshot.  he probably wasnt making half of what ron and fez were, but if management had it out for him they'd be looking for an excuse to can him, especially since he and Al hated each other.

He wasn't great on the show. I remember alot of the regulars complained about him. But Foul Mouthed Elmo is one of the best radio charecters ever. F-beeeeep-in brilliant.

now that i think about it, one of the running gags was the fact that Joe was always Broke as a Jokeafter all, this was the guy that had a shot at Sweet Melissa, and was carrying a whoppin' $2.50 for their date...its hard to flag down taxis when you have t-rex arms...

The way I remember it Joe refused to do something I believe out of laziness or just not caring about the show, and Ron got really pissed and told him to get out.  Joe started taking it as a joke and saying funny things back to him, but Ron kept being pissed and eventually Joe figured out he was serious.  I think he ended up leaving right in the middle of the show too.  I still don't remember what the original argument actually was, but it was something to do with Joe not doing something he was asked.

Hey guys , hate to be a nudge, but I need to get R&F via the puter.  Im an oldschool listner from the WNEW days and just moved back to the east coast.  I was ringside when Al DUkes got pummled by the Orange ball of Failure, B. Staples, I actually have a corner of Dukes stupid College Diploma... Please pass on any info, thanks guys, this board ROCKS!..  FLAVO

as far as i remember, i wasa behind the scenes thing involving fezzie and joe not getting along. something along the line of fez not letting joe feel welcome or needed, for something joe did to fez.

Ron and Fez have asked Al Dukes to try and get him back on the show... but he has not been able too <div /> thanks for the bit of research, minimadden.  i didnt even think to check out the ona boards for this.   I think what the jobber was talking about was the First time Joe vanished from the show back in '00 or '01 when RnF did the transition from Overnights to mid-days, and he's correct on that as far as i know, joe just didnt stay with the show and kind of "dropped out".  But, 8 or 9 months later he called back in and at That point they Had him on the show pretty much full-time.  i remember this cuz this was around the time i started listening to recorded RnF shows.

There's
something odd about that date.  I've been listening to old shows,
and I know that Joe Poo was on in November of 2001.  He'd been on
for a string of shows at that point, and the first time he showed up
(sometime after 9/11) Ron welcomed him like an old friend
returning.  Perhaps he left, then came back, then left again?

Joe Poo Near the end was getting into alot of fights with WNEW management.  Then Joe Poo and Billy got into some type of fight or something and both of them got sent home for the rest of the week with orders not to return till the following monday.  Billy returned and Joe did not.

[/quote]   i listened to the show you mentioned today, march 18 '02, and you are partially correct.  the first half of the show has al dukes at the rock and roll hall of fame because Billy refused to go.  near the end of the show ron sent billy and joe poo home for the rest of the week, BUT there was no real confrontation with joe, it was completely focused on billy and the fact that he was drinking again...joe stayed through to the end of the show.  perhaps you have this confused with another show, because ive heard something similar from other people about the "extended vacation" and joe leaving mid-shift.  anyone else have an idea?

You know, now that I think about it, who the fuck was Joe Poo.  I never questioned it back then, but a 3rd mic on Ron and Fez?  It's very unusual.  Was he a friend of Ron or Fez?  How did it even happen?I can't believe I just accepted what was happening without thinking about it.  A 3rd mic on the show is so strange to think about now, but back then we all just accepted it.

the way that I remember it,  one of the interns, or maybe Al, Billy, etc. was asking about vacation.  Ron said "Alright, who else wants to go on vacation?"  joe said that he did, and he's been on vacation ever since.He's not kicked off, he's on an "extended vacation"
