 I've been expecting for this to happen. It's doable.
Little by little, we wont be driving our own cars anymore. Sounds
dangerous to me. But I suppose if its voluntary, its OK. But you know
how these things go, it will be "effectively" mandatory within a few
years, through higher insurance and tickets.

does it cut off after just 1mph over, or is there a cushion? I actually do not mind this at all, nor would i mind if my car drove itself. It would be like being on a train, minus the smelly foreigners and homeless scum. And if cars do drive themselves, and you can not speed, i def. expect to pay less for insurance

No, it doesn't really drive the car for you. It just cuts off the
accelerator and applies the brake if youre over the speed limit. Like
cruise control by remote device. 
I dont speed nearly as much as I used to, but thats not even the
point. You may NEED to go over the limit sometimes, like if someone's
tailgating you. And its just more big brother shit, and we have too
much of that already.

i know this is not a slef drivign thing, I was talking about in the future. And I agree that sometimes it is necessary to speed, but if everyone were on this system, there would be no tailgaiting.

Can't wait for something to malfunction and kill me.  Also, since I don't want it, they better pay for EVERYTHING if they pass a bogus law for everyone to have it.  Installation, monitoring and repairs.But that's a worst case scenario.  I will fight getting one, if it comes close to being a reality.  Fuck You Big Brother.

I am totally against this in every way. If I want to break the law, its my option and Ill deal with the consequences.  Why dont thy find a way to do something like this for dangerous people?  Like, if someone has a tendency to be dangerous, combative, predetory, sexual deviant, obnoxious, why dont they insert a device in their brains that shuts them down when they "go over the limit"?

Here's another thing that bugs me about speed limit laws, seat belt
laws, distracted driving (cell phones), etc. People get punished for
behavior which MIGHT lead to bad outcomes. No accident has occurred,
but you get punished for behavior that MAY cause one. How about
this, if you are speeding and cause an accident, you get a reckless
driving conviction on top of everything else. One with HEAVY penalties,
even jail time. But stop this Nanny state bullshit and leave the rest
of us alone. Never do it. You know why? The State rakes in
MILLIONS by coming up with daily excuses to relieve you of your hard
earned funds. But its for YOUR own good, little boy.

Here's another thing that bugs me about speed limit laws,one thing that bugs me big time is being surcharged by your insurance company when you get a speeding ticket...you go to court, pay your fine and court fees and that should be it... how the F does an Insurance Company get to dip their hand in your pocket for this, it didn't cost them a penny...

receive if they get it after they have an accident; they're assuming
they're not going to get into an accident in the first place. 
Negative reinforcement is the only plausible way people will learn to
drive in a responsible manner.  It would be nice if you got a
discount on your car insurance if you always drove with your seatbelt
on, et cetera, but that's not feasible.

aside the fact that not wearing your seatbelt is a stupid thing to do,
what if you have a child in the car with you who learns the
aforementioned stupid behavior?  Also, there is no legitimate
reason for not wearing your seatbelt.  At best, you get injured or
killed needlessly.  At worst, you kill someone else inside or
outside of your car as your flailing body crashes about or gets "thrown
clear."  It doesn't bother me in the slightest if someone gets a
ticket for that.  You've also left out the part about distracted
driving, which certainly does endanger others.

if you get in an accident and aren't wearing a seatbelt, chances are
you'll need more immediate medical attention which just wastes time and
money. same thing with being a smoker or morbidly obese. the medical
costs get distributed to all of us.i'm all for drug
legalization. we can take those tax dollars to finance all those
needless emergency room costs from idiots riding motorcycles without
helmets...

"Morbidly obese"? If you have an extra 30-40 pounds, your risk for
heart disease, Diabetes, etc goes up significantly. And that costs us
all $. So no more birthday cakes, cookies, or ice cream in summer.Oh
Steak is out too, especially the fatty, tasty cuts. Or maybe we'll just
tax the shit out of all these foods so you cant afford them anymore.

i don't agree with your car's speed being limited strictly to the
speed limit. until recently, our speed limits had an artificial ceiling
imposed on them, so it's not unsafe a priori to speed. i'm a big
believer in speed ranges, ie. go between 60 and 80 mph on this highway.
if you had a system like that and your satellite prevented extreme
speeds, then i wouldn't have a problem with it. it's one of those
situations where i think one bad law (speed restriction) would wake
people up into correcting another bad law (low speed limits). 
i've been planning on doing some research into computer-driven
cars, and i'd like to write a computer program that simulates human
driving habits and compares them to the optimal driving behavior
(namely, maximal throughput). i think computer-driven cars would kick
ass. you'd have to have a minimum performance level established at
start-up (braking performance, acceleration characteristics) and the
onboard radios hooked to gps to allow communication with cars in your
vicinity. then i could sit back and eat/talk on my phone/blast my
radio/watch dvds to my heart's content. hell, even take a nap on the
way to work. speed limits should go up (unless there is concern about
fuel efficiency) and no more inexplicable traffic jams. it'd be like
demolition man

I got a solution. If you decide not to wear a
seatbelt, get into an accident and sustain extensive injuries, you are
not eligible for ANY insurance payouts.
If you smoke and and catch lung cancer or emphysema your insurance company doesn't have to pay a dime.
If you are morbidly obese and have a heart attack or develop
diabetes or want stomach stapling, your insurance company doesn't have
to pay a fucking dime.
That way people can act like morons and none of the rest of us have to suffer any consequences.
It'll never happen though, because all the bullshit people spout
about taking responsibilty for your own actions only applies to other
people.
Until then, the rest of us do suffer for morons being morons.

I used to be among the anti-seatbelt crowd.  I changed my mind the night that some dick ran through a red light and hit me as I was going through an intersection.  The seat belt kept me from flying out of the open window when my car went into a spin.

Thats what we should have private charities for. And I am forced to pay
taxes under threat of imprisonment, which takes the whole "charitable"
feeling away when men with guns show up to handcuff you for not
"contributing".
