View Full Version : Admiral James Stockdale - Dead!

For those of you whose memories go back to 1992.<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/07/05/stockdale.obit/index.html">http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/07/05/stockdale.obit/index.html</a> I remember watching the Vice-Presidential debate with Gore, Quayle and this guy and thinking in an admittedly snarky way “Where did they get this poor old fool?”,   and by the end of the debate feeling pity for the man.  A few days later I watched Dennis Miller (!) (this is when he still had interesting things to say) do a rant on the media feedback about the debate and he bitch –slapped the snide right out of me when he recounted Adm. Stockdale’s experiences and contributions as a pilot,  POW and his post-military career in academia.  This gentleman was a genuine American hero and a better man than me.  Godspeed.

For those of you whose memories go back to 1992.=As I clicked on the Thread that very thought occurred.I remember that Most Painful of debates, down to where he was asked some Q, and his response was a mnemonic, BACKUS or something, and as he went down the letters, or tried to, I realized I was watching the death of a political campaign, which was not to say the ticket had a chance, but to watch such a Charlie Foxtrot go down, true Cringe at it's Cringiest, was surreal.
