Looks like Oliver Stone is gonna make a movie about 9/11.

Ollie is good recreating choas on-screen. This has potential.

I just wonder what the "feel" of the movie will be. I'm sure a lot of people are pissed that it's being made but, we all knew Hollywood would tackle the subject sooner or later.

http://chud.com/news/3625

Sounds like it could be a great film if done great. Plus I love Nick
Cage so I look forward to seeing this when it comes out...thats like
what, 3 years from now?
OK, lemme ask you all a question. Do you think that Olver Stone making
this movie, and him and the studio making money from this, is
exploiting and using the 9/11 tragedy for ones profit?

I would be SHOCKED if Stone and Cage didn't donate a large portion of their salaries (and back end) to various 9/11 charities.

Having said that...everyone cashes in on everything in America. Nothing is "sacred". That's one of the many reasons why other countries don't like us. Parents get book deals when their kids get abducted. Criminals in jail also get book deals. And the US is always making a movie about one tragedy or another. Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, and a million other "based on true events" movies. Ultimately, it all becomes "entertainment".

The 9/11 movie will come and go just like every other disaster movie.

Let me put it this way...why bother making a film about 9/11 at this point? There's nobody who was alive when it happened in this country who doesn't already know EXACTLY what happened. I mean, a documentary would be one thing...but an actually film can't help but reek of anything BUT trying to make money and capitalize on tragedy.

For the record, I find Pearl Harbor not only an awful film, but pretty insulting. Are they gonna do something similar with the 9/11 film and make up a sappy fictional story to help "sell" it to the publc? If not, again, what's the point of making a 9/11 film in the first place? It was an event that was covered by all aspects of the media as much as possible...

One more point...studios can make this, but it takes an apathetic and uncaring public for it to make any money.

I think the focus of this movie is on two real cops who ran in to the buildings just before the collapse in an attempt to save lives.

I'm sure there will be a ton of poetic license, or dramatic license or whatever the hell it's called but, supposedly, the film will be factual.

Are they gonna do something similar with the 9/11 film and make up a sappy fictional story to help "sell" it to the publc?

Or course they are, bucause we're all dull idiots who need Hollywood to Revamp and Glamorize stories with their bullshit writing techniques. I mean I wouldn't be able to watch something without a fucking love story in it, or a "Based on a Ture Story" account of a young man trying to win back the love of his father after 10 years.

Eat a dick Hollywood. THIS is why I stopped going to the movies. What can they POSSIBLE do to make this anymore interesting? Mojo is right, all they need is a documentary. ANYTHING EXTRA IS A FUCKING INSULT TO THE PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENCED IT.

What a waste of time and effort. Are they going to construct a huge set of the Twin Towers with people jumping or will it be sanitized? Is he allowed to use the names of people who died? This will be a bootleg I won't mind buying.

If it is Salvador/Platoon/Talk Radio Oliver Stone making the movie then I'm interested.

If it's 4th of July/Doors/Nixon Oliver Stone I'll wait & see.

If it's JFK/NBK Ollie Stone, fuck it.

And I respectfully disagree that it's too early for 9/11 inspired art. I think Springsteen's The Rising was great and John Updike wrote a piece for the Atlantic called "Varieties of Religious Experience" that was the best short story I've read in a long time. Of course, it will ALWAYS be too soon for emotionally manipulative crap using 9/11 as the hook.

Fuck that. Stone's a partisan hack. Even if he made the most objective, apolitical film ever his name would still draw 9-11 even more into the partisan tard-war than it already is and I have no fucking stomache for that anymore. Fuck Stone for doing it - as a misguided attempt at boosting his mainstream credibility no doubt - fuck Fox News in advance for piggybacking the exploitation bandwagon, and fuck all partisan hacks worldwide for not having their vocal chords poked out with the rusty syringe that Courtney Love took out of the last working vein in Cobain's taint when he croaked and still uses to shoot into her fake tits for that "silicone-smack sprinkler effect."

Stone should know better. Fuck him. And fuck Spielberg for even thinking about doing it too - and I know you were, Puppetmaster! We don't need your well-timed violins and manichean character development to tell us when to cry, and who to hate for this one, dick. You've dumbed us down enough already, and Bush already beat you to this one anyway.

I say either give this one to the guy who did the Thin Red Line, or just leave it to the documentary filmmakers that nobody watches anyway. Letting anyone in Hollywood touch this is like a sleepover at Neverland. That's not a joke either. It's just that irresponsible, and the public should know that by now and piss and moan until Stone gets the message and knocks it off.
Fuck it from behind.

Documentary, yes. Movie? NO.

Whenever you're dealing with a
"Movie" things will be dramatized, the truth stretched, artistic
license taken. Throw in that it's Oliver Stone doing it, and he'll
probably have the audience believing the CIA did it by the end of the
film.

Of course, no one going to try to make $ off this,
right? Everyone's donating 100% of their paychecks to charity, RIGHT?
Because if you weren't, you'd really be a worthless scumbag.

Absolutly awful idea. There is no need for this movie to be made.

What they really should do is make it a 2 hour long string of video clips set to really sad music. You know, like the million short ones that were made around the time of the tragedy and aired on every news show for months.

Because without those, I wouldn't have known it was OK to cry or feel bad.

Oh yea, THAT one.

They're all the same and they all suck. I don't need to be told what's sad and what's not. Just play the goddamn clips with no soundtrack, thanks. It should all be documented but doesn't need to be played up.

I fucking hate any and all of those stupid post-tragedy montages and radio mixes. They are always set to some pop tune that doesn't even (lyrically) apply to the footage.

After the Oklahoma bombing, or perhaps the 1st WTC attack, they played a crappy remix of "Lightning Crashes" by Live featuring CNN soundbytes all because, at one point in the song, it says "a baby dies" (or "a mother cries") or something like that. It was just so god-damn forced. And stupid.

After 9/11, there were mixes of "Hero" and "Superman" by Foo Fighters and FiveForFighting respectively. Both songs have less than nothing to do with the events of the day. Lyrically, they don't fit the emotion of the day. The whole thing is retarded.

Those "tragedy mixes" offend me more than the Stone movie ever could. At least Stone will make a movie with the proper tone.

Now I'm pissed. Crap.

i'm also offended by the bunch of country songs that were written afterward. i'm no country music fan but some of it is just ridiculous listening to some hick sing about the taliban. (there are a few others besides that one too)

i'll probably watch this movie and come away shocked that they even made it. i've watched every year when they read the names of everyone lost. i don't know why i do it to myself. i'm fascinated/disturbed by everything that happened that day. last year i actually lost it when this one woman came up and called her husbands or son's name, not sure which, and said something to him in french. she looked like her heart had been ripped out and stomped on every day for the last 4 years she was in so much pain over him never coming back.

i just hope stone doesn't forget this changed alot of peoples lives that are still not right with it.
