$2.50 per gal.!!
What the fuck is going on here? I know the price goes up every summer but $2.50.
Does anyone have a spread sheet of gas prices over the last 5 years? I'd love to see it.
I'M GETTING A BIG ASS!!!

Damn, $2.50? The highest I've seen was $2.23 a week ago. For all I know it may be up even higher now.

This is really getting out of hand and something seriously needs to be done about it. I'm so glad I'm not working so it's only one vehicle we have to worry about gassing up.

Mobil should have record profits this year and a couple Oil Shieks are moving up the billionaire ladder as we speak, and drive, and sit in traffic...

In McLean, Virgnia, one of the wealthiest suburbs in the DC area (and the country, for that matter!), gas was $2.19 at some stations yesterday. Up the road, in downtown Arlington, gas is the $2.20s and $2.30s. There are other parts further out, though, that are easily $2.40 and higher.

Arlington - home of the Pentagon

McLean - home of the C.I.A.

Hmmmmm....

Are those stations with the cheaper Gas near a major road or highway? Typically Gas is more expensive where there is more traffic (Demand is greater, so is the price)

Plus doesn't the government fill up at their own tanks? I know different counties have their own filling stations for their own equipment (School Buses, Work Trucks, etc)

Typically Gas is more expensive where there is more traffic (Demand is greater, so is the price)

you know when there's a hurricane or flood and they find out a local hardware store is raising their prices there is an outrage... why wouldn't that be a 'supply/demand' issue

when there is gonna be a winter storm and people go stock up on bread, milk, etc i don't see the prices being raised

this is why i don't buy the "demand" explanation... they already make a good profit and you'd have to imagine they would continue to make good profits by selling 'more' gas at the 'same' price

WTF

There is a free market in this country. Gas prices range from station to station as you drive around, it's been like this WAY before the "War for Oil" with this Bush or the one his Dad had.

It's the same thing that lets Movie Theaters and Concert Vendors charge more for refreshments then you would pay at a Supermarket or a Warehouse store like Costco. So if you are driving down a major highway you'll see gas prices much higher than if you are in a small town on a small road.

The practice of dramatically rasing prices in response to an emergency (Hurricane, Flood, etc) is illegal, That isn't what I'm talking about. Gas prices are different within just a few blocks/miles of stations, just take a look.

store like Costco.

thats true now, concessions have gotten out of hand. But they would always be more at places like that for a couple reasons

a
supermarket has so many products to cover the over head, that
everything is cheaper then say a convienient store, who with high rent
has a much bigger gap to make up, since they have smaller space and less product. Also, the supermarkets and costco's
pay less for products because they buy alot more at a time.

A
stadium or arena or such has the highest overhead to cover. now it's
gotten insane, but for like teams and shit like the yanks and mets and
sox, they are that expensive cause they are spending alot to try to
win. So its not all greed and free market, some is needed markup
