I just listened to the audio posted from the Hideout's Monday show in which they paid tribute to Freda Sorce and their friendship with Don & Mike:

http://www.savefile.com/files/8286315

While I thought the show was quite moving and very well done, I was struck by El Jefe's fake Long Island accent. Since when does a Mexican kid from Grand Prarie, Texas start talking like Fat Tony from "All the Wild Horses?" Has anyone else noticed this? I hadn't heard their show since they moved to Orlando, but I never noticed his thick counterfeit dialect before. Stern's the obvious model, but there were other times it sounded almost Cumia-esque. At one point he even pulled out a positively Benningtonian, "I'm not gonna lie to you."

yep... I never thought he was trying to do an LI voice, though... just always seemed like he was putting on a fake "radio voice." It always struck me as kinda awkward (especially next to Dubs' low-key natural sounding delivery).

Exactly, I used to notice this every once in a while and after
listening to this show it reminded me of how odd it was. He tends
to drift in and out of the NY accent every once in a while, I'de assume
he picked it up from Stern as well. As for the Benningtonian, I
too am guilty of throwing these out every now and then like a hack,
luckily where I live no one ever picks up on 'em.
Has anyone else noticed how eerily similar El Jefe's and My name is Phil's voices sound?

I was listening to a Ron and Fez show from June 2003 (El Jefe and Mikey D fighting about the Bumper Music)

His voice seemed to sound a little more Kermit-like and less Benningtonian than he sounds now on the Hideout. Could just be something with the mp3 I'm listening too...

Maybe Dubs can try for a Whatleyesque delivery

It's cool to hear him morphing and growing as an artist.I also imitate voices, and it's like living vicariously, acting, doing a role, trying on a different style, new hat,new personality like a mocking bird.Maybe it's not original, but it's opening up,trying out "characters",accents, points of view. It's awkward as a listener to hear the voice-cracking mister puberty fakeness of pretense and role-playing,like hearing a bad coverband. But,it shows that Jefe is stretching his pud as an artist,so he's working it up into a lather.Posturing,maybe...experimenting,absolutely.
