View Full Version : Speeding ticket #15.........
Skellington

So I got a new car 2 weeks ago, and over the weekend, i got my 15th speeding ticket. Did you know...that a cop can be driving on the opposite side of the median from you....pass you.....make a U-Turn OVER the grass median and give you a speeding ticket for doing 67 in a 45? Yeah, apparently, it's possible. And it happened. I was not aware that radar could be traveling towards you on the opposite side of the median *big median, it's algonkian parkway* and they could clock you from their moving vehicle......

I do not think that they can do that. at least in NJ, i am 99% positive they do not use that technology. I have no idea where you live, so I am not sure. You should def. go and fight it though.

And holy shit, 15 speeding tickets, have you ever lost your license? how much do you pay in insurance?

I think it works on the principles of the Doppler Effect so they can set up and calibrate it from anywhere. And if you were speeding suck it up and pay the fine

a normal radar gun will not work. it needs to be stationary. if the car is moving, its a whole different type of technolgy. i do not think they have implimented this in NJ yet. therefore, a moving cop can not get an accurate reading if he is moving

I got 1 speeding ticket about 4 years ago now, couldn't afford that and stopped speeding completely.

You didn't speed for 3 years, why did you start now? Stop speeding. You're probably that guy that tailgates me in the slow lane when you can't get around someone in the middle or fast lane. You're life isn't that important that you need to speed. You're trying to get somewhere like the rest of us.

2 things i have a problem with here.

1 Did you know...that a cop
can be driving on the opposite side of the median from you....pass
you.....make a U-Turn OVER the grass median and give you a speeding
ticket for doing 67 in a 45?

how do you go about getting a license without
knowing that 67 in a 45 will get you pulled over. And if a cop is on
his way to stop someone, he can pretty much break any traffic law he
wants so long as his car is not a violation, IE busted headlight or
what not.

the second thing is, i think you are a liar. This is
obviously based on New Jersey, but I know its pretty similar all over
the country.

Minimum points on a speeding ticket is 2. 12 points
gets your license suspended, and you only lose 1 point when you go a
full year without a violation, meaning for you to get 15 tickets and
not lose your license, it woulda taken you like 25-30 years. 6 1-9 MPH
over tickets will get you suspended. In new jersey, 67 in a 45 in New
Jersey would be 6 points, prob pled down to 4 points, 2 if you are
really lucky. Point being, you dont have 15 speeding tickets, not that
stood up in court anyway

actually it was probably the same cop. most dont use radar anymore.
they have a laser gun. all they have to do is hit your car with it, no
matter who is moving in what direction.

and the reason you got a
ticket from behind is, if its like Mahwah, the cops up here have laser
in the front and perminant radar from the back of the car too now.
Thats why cops can pull you over and know how fast you are moving if
they are stopped and you come up from behind them

IMMEDIATELY.

I agree. I had my license suspended 12 years ago for failing to pay a ticket. I kept driving anyway. I worked at Pizza Hut at the time. Some guys stole money from one of the video games there, and the investigating cop got the SSN's of all the employees working that night.

A few nights later, he paid a little visit to the store, to make sure I was working. Since he had my SSN, he knew I had a suspended license, and he knew which car was mine in the parking lot. He waited until I dropped off the deposit for the night, then busted me. That resulted in a free ride to the local jail.

The scary thing was, I had a 1/2 ounce of pot in the glove compartment. One of the cops moved my car to a parking lot (at least they didn't tow it), and looked around inside the car w/ his flashlight. Thank God he didn't open the glove compartment, as I was already handcuffed in the back of the cruiser... sweating like a pig!

I have many good ticket stories, but I'm happy to say, I'm a very legal driver now, and have been for many years!

your speed, just swerve away from the car in front of you (The one with

I couldn't tell it was a cop behind me and after so many miles he pulled me over. He asked me why I was driving in the left lane and i told him the truth "the left lane is smoother". On that road it is, i drive it home from work every night. He probably realized i was telling the truth or just wasn't expecting that answer, he got speechless for approx 5 to 10 seconds then let me go on my way...

i dont mind speeding. In fact, i do it quite a bit myself. But i dont
do it like an asshole. I dont think ive ever gone 67 in a 45 since like
the first week i had my license when i was a dumb bastard. On the
highways from time to time ill go 80-90, but i only do it when its
open. I wont weave to speed or shit like that, though occasionally i
will flash people who are going overly slow, which is also very
dangerous on a highway

Well one huge difference in this is the roads you're driving on. If
you're on Rte 80 in Central Jersey, you probably shouldn't even have a
limit. Cause the road is straight, visibilty is good and you have alot
of lanes to work with. And traffic is usually light. But in more
heavily populated suburban areas or in the city forget about it. You're
just asking to get killed, or kill someone else. I have no desire to
speed anymore, anyway. Even on those wide open roads. Not worth it. Of
the many accidents I've had, most were shit I couldn't anticipate at
all. Hit from behind, the side. Someone stopped in the road just as you
come around a bend. Not worth it. Like Moe said to save what, two
minutes?

I'm sure if skellington uses the above excuse in court, any reasonable judge will let him go. I mean, those cruise control thingys are tricky...the buttons keep moving all over the place...2 weeks is really not enough time to figure them out. And 67 feels EXACTLY like 45,doesnt it? I blame the manufacturer, there should be bells and whistles going off whenever you violate the law.

Stupid cop, couldnt he read the registration? Look when it was issued! 2 weeks ago! 2 WEEKS! Any idiot knows thats not enough time to learn the rules of the road as they apply to a new car...or a rental for that matter.

Skell, congrats on winning the fight against cancer. Now go out and run over some nuns, so that they too can feel the joy of beating death...if theyre lucky.

and JENN...did u happen to measure that cop's nightstick???
jersernutter productions

How many points did you get for this ticket or some of your previous tickets. And if you got speeding tickets when you were younger and 15 in 9.5 years is a little over 1.5 tickets a year so even with the spacing of tickets meaning you got 14 in 6.5 (since you havent had one in 3 years right?) years giving you an average of 2.1 tickets a year, meaning that you liscense was suspeneded right prior to you turning 18, and you completed a driving class right to keep your lisecense. I mean so now that it is broken down some lets have some answers Internet Tough Guy #1 - Just look at my e-muscles

One other thing this is what i was saying earlier as the doppler effect and why they can get your speed from any direction:

The sudden change in pitch of a car horn as a car passes by (source motion) or in the pitch of a boom box on the sidewalk as you drive by in your car (observer motion) was first explained in 1842 by Christian Doppler. His Doppler Effect is the shift in frequency and wavelength of waves which results from a source moving with respect to the medium, a receiver moving with respect to the medium, or even a moving medium.

The perceived frequency (f ´) is related to the actual frequency (f0) and the relative speeds of the source (vs), observer (vo), and the speed (v) of waves in the medium by

The choice of using the plus (+) or minus (-) sign is made according to the convention that if the source and observer are moving towards each other the perceived frequency (f ´) is higher than the actual frequency (f0). Likewise, if the source and observer are moving away from each other the perceived frequency (f ´) is lower than the actual frequency (f0).

I mean so now that it is broken down some

To break it down, your license only gets suspended if you aquire *are found guilty of * 18 demerit points in a 12 month period *virginia*. I got my first speeding ticket 2 weeks after i got my permit *ha* Judge sent me to driving school with my Dad *boo* I never got the 6 demerits because the judge sent me to driving school in lieu of points. So instead i got 5 GOOD points *for driving school* I go tmy next ticket 6 months later, that one i went to court, the cop didn't show, i got off because of that for some reason *i was high fivin' my mother*. Next ticket was 4 months after that, it was a 2 point violation. Then the rest of my tickets were all for 15-20 over except for the very last one i got, which i actually had to go to court for with a lawyer, which i WAS intentionally speeding out of insanity because my 5 year old goddaughter ran through a glass door....cop got me for doing 105 in a 50......I got a damn good lawyer that got that talked down to a 'disobeying a street sign'...2 points. I've gone to court for most of my tickets. By going to court, the judge has either docked the speed down so it's less points, or sent me to driving school or gave me community service in lieu of the ticket. Thusly, only when my license was in danger, did i get a lawyer. My lawyer is worth every penny. After my last ticket *105 in a 50* my parents sat me down and gave me the meaning of life speech. They also gave me crap for not just calling a ambulance *hey, i don't have that much experience with kids...* I promised them i wouldn't speed *thusly using cruise control for the last 3 years and only speeding when i was around a crap load of cars that would otherwise maul me...495 people do no less than 80 or else get run over by a hummer....*

it all added up. tra la la, boo hoo story. I'm a good drive and never been in a accident, i guess just the freedom of a open road and not paying attention leads to flooring it. i dunno, lesson learned. re-re-re.
