That looks REALLY good, but a lot can be done with a trailer...but I am definitely looking forward to it.

I can't be the only one who thinks this movie is
gonna stink. These commercials are awful. First of all, Joaquin Pheonix
is doing an awful job singing those songs. And he's doing an equally
awful job acting like Johnny Cash if I'm to judge from the commercials.
He's overdoing it, and sprinkling in a bit off the patented Joaquin
Pheonix serious whispering (thank Jimmy Norton!). And then Reese
Witherspoon is doing her best Reese Witherspoon impression, like she
always does. I'm glad I'm not much of a Johnny Cash fan, or I'd be pissed.

Looks pretty good, and it's been getting great reviews when it's been screened, so I'm looking forward to it.

All things considered, Joaquin sounds pretty good. Just looping pre-recorded tracks is pretty cheesy, so that an actor could get that close to THAT voice is pretty impressive. And yes, the voice sounds ridiculous...Cash sounded ridiculous in that NOBODY else sounds like that. That's what made him so great.

I would really like this to be good because I'm a Cash fan. Also, call me a pussy, but I consider the Johnny Cash/June Carter Cash relationship to be one of the all-time great American love stories. However, the average biopic blows dogs. I'll reserve judgment.

During my late teens I became skeptical of the decisions made by and
Academy Awards Nomination committee. When they nominated that
nose in the air, unconvincing, awful British accent piece of crap for
an Oscar for Gladiator (overrated piece of crap on it's own) my doubts
were solidified. When I saw this trailer I said, "oh, another
role he's going to butcher." This is going to stink. It's a
shame too. I wanted to so badly to be interested in this.
Hollywood, stop giving this hack work and ruining my movie going
experiences.

Just saw it - I thought it was a great flick.

There are times in the movie were Joaquin nails Johnny's mannerisms I guess is the word.
Reese as June Carter was a lot better than I thought she would be. Sounds like she studied Crazy Jens voice instead of Junes.

June was well known and well respected before Johnny even picked up a guitar. ( I had no idea )

I give a 9 out of 10.

I feel like the ending was rushed tho. It could've ran a lil longer I really didn't want the movie to end.

Made me go out and buy the Folsom Prison CD.

See it. It's a great story.

June was well known and well respected before Johnny even picked up a guitar. ( I had no idea )

Well, the Carter Family basically were the first "superstars" of country music...It was originally her parents AP and Sara and Sara's sister Maybelle...

Here's a short bio I found

By the early 1930s, the Carter Family was the most bankable country music group in America, with total sales of more than a million records. By the late '30s, they were appearing regularly on high-power radio station XERA, which broadcast from coast to coast. A whole generation of country people could gather around the radio and hear the sound of music that came straight from their world. Johnny Cash in Arkansas, Waylon Jennings in Texas, Chet Atkins in Georgia, and Tom T. Hall in Kentucky all listened to the Carter Family. It was their formal schooling, Country Music 101.

And

The vocal part of the Carter Family sound was no less innovative. If you listen to the early hillbilly recordings, you find that, basically, the singers were barely singing over the instruments. The Carter style was built around the vocals and incorporate them into the instrumental background, usually made up of the basic three cord structure. In essence, the Carter Family violated the main traditions of vocal and instrumental music, but in doing so created a whole new sound.

Don't sleep on the Carter family...
