What is the explanation of Giambi's recent power surge?
spoon

Here's what a little research haw yeilded:

Giambi had 5 homeruns for the combined months of April, May and June. Yet with still a week left in the month, he has 11 in July alone!!

Here is the breakdown of Giambi's SLG % over the last few months. April .373, May .315, June .431, July 1.034!!!

If he was clean he'd be smart to demand a test to prove it. MLB is idiotic for not testing him now, but since when has MLB cared about the state of the game in regards to steroids. All in all, even if he is clean he is getting what he deserves for cheating in the past. It pains me that he didn't even get a slap on the wrist for his actions. MLB only catches the players who obviously aren't on them or at least don't carry any weight in the league. I'm sure they've looked the other way many times in the case of Shef, Bonds, and of course Giambi. If the French can check Armstrong, and only Armstrong, 3 times already at the Tour de France. Then we sure as hell should demand a check of Giambi and his clean peers should do the same. The union will never allow that to happen though.

its hard to tell. He used to be huge. Then he got small. Somewhere
during this year, he got pretty big again, but not to where he was. it
could just be that it took that long to get strong without the juice.

also there are steroids that are undetectable cause MLB doesnt do blood tests. So alot of guys could still be on them

The steroid tests are private and are only made
public if a player fails. For all we know there could be a guy waiting
at Giambi's locker following every game with a little cup waiting for a
sample.

Even
as a Yankee fan I don't know if he's on the roids now. I really hope he
isn't. He has looked very different at the plate recently, but that of
course could just be because he is confident since he's back on the
juice. And his arms are huge lately, but frankly I don't remember what
they looked like at the beginning of the season, and he never really
slimmed down a whole lot anyway.

According to the Yanks and Mattingly, his problem was his right
knee. Which was collapsing when he went into his stride, causing an
uppercut swing. He's had knee problems for the past few years, some
people think its steroid related but you cant prove that medically.
He's been working on flattening his swing, and the better his swing has
got, the better his results have been.

As to the OBP, he has a great eye, and always drew alot of walks. That has nothing to do with steroids.

Sorry, I don't care how good your batting coach is at "flattening" your swing, these number changes are way to dramatic. Shame on you "Jays" for having such a kick ass name to post such bullshit. I've never questioned Giambi's ability to walk. As BC stated he's always had a knack for that. And of all his stats, this is the one that has changed the least from the first three months to July. Anybody could make up a story, with some logic behind it to make it more credible, to try and deflect doubt. I for one hate what steroids has done to the game.

And here's your one good thing about a Yankee.....Even if Bonds hits 900 homeruns and Sosa 899, my top three HR kings are easily Aaron, Ruth, and Mays.

The next question is if Giambi does get caught in the near future: 1) Would we ever hear about it or find out? 2) Shouldn't the Yanks forfeit the games that he had a direct impact in regards to the victory in such a tight AL East/Wild Card race? 3) Should he ever play again?

Probably not, Yes (but won't happen), and NO.

He needed surgery on it pretty badly but the front office felt he simply couldn't take the time off and it had to wait until the offseason. It resulted in him pulling EVERYTHING, and at the same time his back knee would just collapse in midswing. During the offseason he had an operation on the knee, and it has not been a problem since then. Last year Giambi got scared because of the steroid issue and puroposely lost an INCREDIBLE amount of weight. Even I didn't realize it back then, but looking at replays of games this year he does not look like the same person. He regained most of the weight this year and as a result has gotten stronger. It is still of course possible he is taking human growth hormone in that it can not be detected in anything but blood samples and the players association will never allow the elague to administer those.

My personal opinion though, is that he isn't stupid enough to do anything he can get caught with. He's simply healthy, something he hasn't been for about three years now.

I don't buy the healthy claim. If this was the case he would have gradually gotten better as the year went on. And let's not go out and give Giambi a pass bc he "wouldn't be that stupid". There are millions of dollars on the line, his livelihood, his appeal and moral in the NY market and many other things. There have been plenty of athletes much smarter then this huge mellon headed gorilla who have fucked their career by repeating mistakes just like this with nothing to gain by doing so. He has plenty of reason to do it, and he's done it before for the same reasons.

How does one gradually get better from a pituatary tumor?? Which is what he had last year.

And as far as him not being stupid enough to do it, I agree it is possible. I just feel that if that were the case he wouldn't be so stupid as to hold a press conference talking about how sorry he was, he'd shutup get on the hormones and never utter the word steroid again.

You don't slowly reestablish yourself at the plate while A. You're suffering from an undiagnosed tumor and B. Have an operation to have it removed. A tumor is going to have more than a little affect on your abilities. I've seen a grown adult not be able to do much of anything because of a tumor. People don't just have these things, have them removed and then get up and play a pro sport again, if you want to criticize him for not doing so and being some all star then by all means. I however, find it just a weee tad difficult to do. And you're trying to say basically that the Yankees invented him having a tumor? Well that's wrong because it was one of the New York papers that leaked the hospital information that it was indeed in his pituitary gland. Perhaps the Post is involved in the cover up? Mike Lupica maybe?

And as for him playing with reporters. You're stating that he is going to hold a press conference of his own will to make some sort of apology in order to toy around with reporters? You seem pretty sure of yourself considering you know nothing about the guy besides what your already biased opinions and what some convict wrote in a book.

Even Yankee fans are pretty skeptical. Your diatribe about the tumor is so fucking stupid on so many levels. He had the operation LAST YEAR. Over the course of this season he should have slowly gotten back to a solid playing level, not the way he just bursted out with power in the fourth month of the season. My buddy just got over the same exact operation and is already back to his old form on our hockey team. He used to play minor league hockey, so his level is pretty high. He didn't go from shit to star again in one week though. It took time for him to get back.

And he wasn't playing with reporters (at the conf he truly didn't want to do, but had to if he was to remain a yank). He apologized for taking steroids, so what? This means he definately wouldn't take them again as not to "play" with the media? I don't have to find a syringe to prove he did steroids, he admitted it. That means he cheated once, and probably has done it again.
