As I sit at my desk, surfing ronfez.net and trying to find something other than work to occupy my 8 hours of servitude a day, I got to thinkin, how many hours of actual work do you put in during a normal day.

The guy in Office Space got it right, about 15 minutes of real work a week. I think this is pretty normal for anyone who works at a desk.

Right now I'm pretty much counting down until I will no longer have to work a crappy office job. Now I pretty much don't care and go online alot. My attitude has gotten pretty bad, mostly because my boss and coworker have me doing their shit work...I spend the day reforwarding info that they already have but are too lazy to go through their inboxes, and I also have to help another guy when his assistant is out because "he's just so swamped." Funny thing is, he spends most of the day bs'ing with people about his fabulous life, or bitching about how his assistant isn't around. Only 10 more months.

If I don't include all the mindless and meaningless meetings I attend, I probably work for an hour a day and sometimes less.

I only work two or three hours a day also, but like Jennitalia, I am counting down the days to blissful unemployment. I will be a full time student but will be free of the office and corporate bs.

Some days it's punch in to punch out. Summer is the busy time for an RV business, so we're with customers in the store and on the phone a lot. I get parts for the guys in the garage all day. I do a fair share of work.

But on average, I'd say 4-6 hours of real work, not counting my lunch and 2 breaks. There are times where I'm just sitting there browsing this site, checking E-mails and bullshitting with the people I work with. But hey, when we get something we move on it. So we kinda make up for sitting around sometimes by working twice as hard as usual on a rush job.

8-10 here. If you take out the meetings as noted in this thread it drops a few hours a week. Our meetings are pretty bad as well.

I put 8-10 at least, and wish I could put in more! It pisses me off that there are people in the asme position as me who do nothing all day and no one says anything to them, but I feel bad and go WAY beyond the extra mile. I feel that if I am not givinbg an honest days work, that I am cheating myself and if enough people like those others exist, they could ruin the company and fuck me in by default, so I give extra.

In my old job I did probably 3-4 solid hours of work sangwiched between time on the board and other stuff. With my new job, pretty much my whole day is spent working, though I do find time here and there to post when I can.

Unfortunately I teach special ed kindergarteners how to read, so I am pretty much busting my ass the whole time I am there.

On the other hand, at my part time job at a library I probably work an hour or less every time I'm there.

Working for Nassau County, I don't start until 9:00 AM and leave at
4:45 PM. There's lunch, which is an hour, and a 3:00 break, so
that's already 6 1/2 hrs. I cann't go online since my back is
against my employees, but I do walk around alot to chat with the pretty
ladies. Believe it or not there's only three of them,
so it takes less than a hr. My two bosses talk to me daily, so
that's another half hr each. In other words, I don't do much but
get paid well.
