Looks like she's fine. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6890519/)

Well that's what she gets for screwing up healthcare. Ah...the irony.
To be fair, she failed to fix health care in such a spectacular fashion that she pissed away 60 years of Democratic dominance of Congress.

During an earlier editorial board meeting Monday at The Buffalo News, Hillary Clinton complained about suffering from a flu-like bug that affected several of her staff members during a weekend retreat in Westchester.

I think she collapsed because with the election being so successful in Iraq, with a turnout bigger than we get in THIS country, She sees her Presidential prospects going down the tubes.

Glad she's OK. I couldn't disagree with 99% of her political stances more, and I see right through her current repositioning to the center in the run up to '08. But no one wishes her harm.
She'll be out there like the old Hillary in no time. ::cringe::

Clinton has done an excellent job in bringing funding to NY, and has become a real political force even though she's still in her first term. In case you haven't noticed, she is immensely popular in NY (check her poll numbers)

Maybe not 2008, but look for her in 2012 when her second term is up.

True, the White House need a MAJOR sweeping but Hillary?

Look, your feelings on her husband aside, can you really respect the woman for not dumping his ass as soon as they were out of the White House? I'd like my President to have some integrity.

Hillary wouldn't be my first choice as a
Democratic Candidate, or my second, and probably not my third, maybe
not even my fourth, outside chance she might not even be my fifth. I'd
vote for John McCain over her, probably, and if another Republican can
show himself to me moderate and independent of the Christian Extremist
right, there's a chance I;d vote for them over Hillary too.

But this is all a VERY long way off. Who knows what will happen.

Seriously though, I think the Republicans are secretly salivating to
run against her. They owe ALL their power to this woman. The Health
Care power grab she tried in 94 scared the shit out of American public,
so much so they voted in Gingrich and the rest of the Republicans in
one of the biggest "sea changes" in American political history.
She tried to nationalize 1/7 of the US economy (which BTW would make us
officially a Socialist country if she succeeded, putting the total
Gov't share of the economy at over 50%) and people pictured going to
the doctor being like going to the DMV. Which they were right about.

Now have the Bush Republicans built a record to run on that they can defend? No.

Who will they run against her? Excellent question.

But
at the end of the day, there are few people who can even get me
motivated to vote anymore. She's one of them. I'd trudge through 5 feet
of snow to vote against that twat. And if she won, I'd move to Brazil.

Hillary's biggest problem is the visceral reaction many people (mostly
men) have to looking at her. Some of us just look at her and want to
put on a Tony Soprano wife beater and smash her face in. There's very
few women I feel this way about, and she's one of them. Her, Rosie
O'Donnell, and Alanis Morrisette. Drive me fuckin nuts.

Can you blame Bill for cheating on her? Be honest.

I think that visceral hate demonstrated by a vocal
but clear minority actually works in her favor, turning off neutral
voters. I also think these haters over-inflate their ranks which leads
to overconfidence. A couple of parallels with Bush haters,
IMO.

Can go either way. Depends on who's running against her. She'll have
to raise the negatives of her opponent to be somewhere close to hers.
And those charges will have to stick. But you're right about the hate
thing, it turns off people in the middle. But when it comes to Hillary,
that middle might be REAL small. Just like this past election, where turnout trumped swing voters.

Plus she has a record
that the public doesn't like. Look at the poll #'s for "Most important
issue". Health care is way down at the bottom. And her record of
reforming education in Arkansas was dismal. I'd vote for Bill again in
a heartbeat. But she will turn people out to vote against her in
droves, so her turnout better be damn good, and not just with the base.

Another thing I think works against her. I'm sure she'll run from the
"Clinton Playbook" that we all became fimiliar with from Bill. But that
worked as well as it did with Bill as the salesman (who was a
consummate pol, Hillary isn't) I'm dont think the same techniques will
go over as well with Hillary for a variety a reasons. One is her
personality, she was always the bad cop, Bill the good cop. Another is
how society reacts to Women differently than Men. If she did the same
things Bills did, many would backfire simply because she's a woman. And
could gripe about it all she wants, that'll just dig her hole deeper.
Which leads me to #3, she isn't very presidential. Her best poll #'s
came after she was cheated on by Bill, which was alot of sympathy
mostly from other women. #4 reason is many Democrats are Union members,
socially conservative Blacks and Latinos, etc and I'm not sure certain elements of
the DEMOCRATIC party are ready for a woman president. But the
nomination is hers for the asking, and I think it takes the Democratic
party deeper into oblivion.

I've never been
impressed with W, going back to his first Convention in 2000. Though
you're arguing quality over looks, appeal, name recognition. And in the
age of television, style beats substance. Which I think also works
against Hillary.

I'd love McCain. Independent thinker, solid
guy. But the Rush Limbaugh base hates his guts and thinks he works for
the enemy (no joke) So he'd be a better general election candidate than
primary candidate, which is the age old problem with our current
nomination system, and makes me long for the days when party bosses
decided these things. The extremes of both parties dominate the primary
process because turnout is low.

1980-1988 Reagan/Bush

1988 Bush

1992 Bill Clinton

2000 GW Bush

2008 Hillary Clinton

That's over 30 years where we elected either a Bush or a Clinton. If he got the nomination that year I think he would have beat Clinton. In 2000 Bush was a stronger candidate: 10 years younger than McCain, a popular, sitting Governor of a large state who had broad appeal to women and Hispanics, and he had a "compassionate conservative" message that resonated with libertarian Republicans like myself.

Unfortuantely, the post-9/11 Bush is not the same candidate I voted for in 2000. Yes, I support the GWOT but the expansion of government, particularly the idiotic Department of Homeland Security and Director of National Intelligence, REALLY piss me off.

Hillary's friends hint she may exit prez race

FRIENDS of Hillary Clinton have been whispering the unthinkable.
Despite her status as the runaway frontrunner for the 2008 Democratic
nomination for president, some of her closest advisers say she might
opt out of the White House race and seek to lead her party in the
Senate.

As senator for New York, Clinton has forged alliances across
party lines with leading Republicans such as Senator John McCain and
Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House of Representatives. In
the eyes of the electorate, however, she is a potentially divisive
figure.

A recent poll for Time magazine showed that 53% of the
electorate said they had a favourable impression of Clinton and only
44% viewed her negatively, figures that President George W Bush can
only dream of at the moment. Even so, 53% of independent voters said
they would not vote for her.

“The prospect of a Hillary for President campaign has put much
of the Democratic establishment in a bind,” Time concluded. “The early
line is that Hillary would be unstoppable in a Democratic primary but
unelectable in a general election.”

The solution, insiders say, is for Clinton to take over as
Senate minority leader in 2009 from the lacklustre Harry Reid, senator
for Nevada. One well-respected blog, The Washington Note, recently
claimed that Reid privately told Clinton the job was hers if she gave
up her presidential ambitions.

Anyone buying this?

I'm not for a minute. I think that whatever the Clintons do, it is to further themelves politically. Anyone who doubts that didn't pay much attention while Bill was in office.

I just dont get the political angle, though.

Though I agree with every word of the article, I think she'd breeze through the Dem primary and have an uphill battle in the general election. She may even be unelectable. But This is so clearly her chance, I dont see her giving it up.

Dont forget, NOBODY thought Bill had a chance in 92, especially after the Jennifer Flowers thing broke. And he actually did poorly in the first few primaries, though he spun his way out of it.

I also find it interesting that this story broke overseas, in the UK.

But I just dont get how it helps her.

I am going to reiterate.

Crossing party lines, a President, especially right now, has to be someone who can motivate and lead the people of the United States. They have to be well-spoken, well likable, and non-polarizing. (As non-polarizing as a president can be)

Bill Clinton, as much as my father will damn me for this, was all three. He wasn't perfect, but he did a good job of leading this country.

So was Reagan. Both Clinton and Reagan were LEADERS. Yes, in retrospect, you can pick apart their administrations. But the fact of the matter was, they led the country.

Between Obama and Clinton, I would vote for Obama is a heartbeat. Clinton is NOT as likable as her husband. She hasn't given me any proven leadership skills. And Obama, well, he has Jeri "Seven of Nine" Ryan to thank for the fact that he's in this position right now.

Republicans, it's McCain and Giuliani. They are the only two I would even be interested in voting for.

Hillary just rubs me the wrong way. I think since she's been New York's senator, she's participated in some things that were good for the state (dont ask me for specifics, I'm just Joe-regular-voter here). But that's not enough.

What I dont like about her is the way she became New York's senator. I know it's been done before, but something bothers me about when someone who's sworn their devotion to one state most of their lives, suddenly swoops in and steals a seat in the senate in whatever state becomes available. There were at least 2 highly qualified, life-long servants to and from the great state of New York, who I feel were more deserving of the position. But she came in, threw on a Yankee cap, and swore to us she was a life long yankee fan...and we believed her, cast our fellow New Yorkers, who had held an elected position in our government before, aside...even though we fully realized she was just using us to get closer to the white house. I really dont think anyone's surprised by today's announcement; we knew about her aspirations before we knew about Giuliani's cancer.

As for Obama; All I know about him is what Ive seen on tv, and thats not enough to have an educated opinion. Personality wise, I like him. Thats all I know. I can see him being president (maybe because I'm a fan of 24?), but in order to win "the white vote" he really needs to change the face of his campaign. He always seems to be surrounded by other African Amer--- black people (I dont know where theyre from). Obviously nothing wrong with that, but to ease the minds of the slightly racist....pepper (or salt) those photo ops with a white guy here and there. In a perfect world, it wouldnt matter what his inner circle looked like, but we dont live in a perfect world; for example, Hillary Clinton is running for President.

Clinton and Obama are the world's two biggest media whores. Neither of them has done anything as Senators. Neither have introduced any landmark legislation!!! Both are experts in pointing out what Bush has done wrong (which is just about everything), but neither have offered viable solutions. Clinton as a president would be too busy making excuses. Obama would be too busy grabbing media attention. I like the Nixon/Ford II idea. Even dead--those guys would do a better job than either Clinton or Obama.

Oh and to be relevant to the topic at hand... I'd vote for Obama over Clinton. If she wins the nomination, I am not sure I will vote Dem, unless they have another obvious line-towing moron running for the Repubs. Why? Because of my feelings on her role in the New York Senate that were perfectly worded by ChristheCop. She strikes me as a fake...and someone who was appointed to a political role because of who was in her family, rather than her true credibility. Kind of like a certain fellow boogying in the White House right now...Her voting for the Iraq war also makes me like her less, and I think she's just riding the anti-war bandwagon now to curry political favor- a basic move, but in comparison to Obama who never voted for the war, she seems less authentic than him.

Oh, and I wouldn't completely rule out the Middle States and the South...during the '04 election, upwards of 40% of those states did vote Blue, even though those states went to Bush...not all of them were 90% Red voters. Kerry was a horrible candidate, that was his problem.

The Bush administration wanted this war and one of the ways they got it was by forcing the dems to vote for a use of force resolution three weeks before the midterm elections following 9-11 and before much evidence that the adminstration had been lying about WMD and al-Qaeda links were publicly available. The Bush administration wanted this war and one of the ways they got it was by forcing the dems to vote for a use of force resolution three weeks before the midterm elections following 9-11 and before much evidence that the adminstration had been lying about WMD and al-Qaeda links were publicly available. The dems also had to take the administration on it's word that it would follow the letter of the resolution and use force as a last resort. When has any politician been able to count on this or that segment of people who usually never vote?
You have to inspire A LOT of people to actually go register, then actually remember to go vote on election day.

In all seriousness, I think she can't do anything but hinder any Democratic attempts to retake the White House. Like it or not, there are few political figures that have the instantly polarizing power of Hillary. There are far too many people, Left or Right, that simply will not vote for her just because she's Hillary Clinton. I'm not saying here whether that's right or not...just that that's how it seems to me that her recognition would be far more detrimental than positive. Of course, in my opinion, that's no great loss at all. The Democrats can and should do MUCH better.

Are there any Hillary Clinton supporters here that can explain why she's so popular? In an election cycle where the left has a chance to move away from the status quo, why are so many people backing a candidate who represents everything about it? Is it because they think she can win? Are they nervous about a black candidate nationally? Do they think it will bring back the 90's (a la Bill Clinton)? Any ideas, cause I don't get it.

I would vote for her just to keep the yankee's "Hillary Curse" alive.
(ever since she put on a yankee cap and said she's a fan, they havent won a world series).
but seriously, i have no idea why anyone in ny even voted for her to be senator, let alone run the whole show.

She's going to win because the party faithful thinks Bill is the bee's knees -- particularly when they compare him to the current White House occupant. And, to echo what Bill said in 1992, "it's a 2 for 1 vote".

I was really into politics though. I would always sit and watch the news, and read the paper. I was more into politics back then than I am now. Granted, my insight into the world wasn't very good, I still tried to understand.
And my parents played a big role into who I "supported". Though, my mom was a republican and my dad a democrat. So he supported Bill and my mom supported Dole, when that election came up anyway. I believe she voted for him the first time around as well.

I've said this all along. If her last name was "Jones" and you looked at her resume, no one would think she's ready. She's barely a 2 term senator whose legislative record is weak, she's lousy at giving stump speeches, and the two biggest things she was ever put in charge of (Education in Arkansas, Health care in White House) were both miserable failures.
A nation of 300 million people, and this is the best we can do. Pathetic.

It is because the national media would have us believe that America is so incredibly put off by a bumbling-stumbling Republican Bafoon, that the obvious choice is to vote for the polar opposite: A Fucking enabling, manipulative, lesbian, hypocritical double-speaking Socialist, Sociopath claiming to be a life-long New yorker at heart.
JESUS CHRIST, our forefathers are spinning in their graves at the sight of the whole lot of em': Hillary, Obama, Rudy ------ TAKE YOUR PICK OF THE LITTER. Regardless if a candidate in the coming election has a (D) or an (R) behind their name one thing is for certain: There will be no real leader, leading this country.

Actually this is a gigantic problem (qualifications), but we as a nation generally ignore what we want in this regard anyway.
In 2000 the Republican Party nominated a bumbling fuck-up instead of an honest, qualified man in John McCain.
In 2000, Al Gore was megaqualified, so our nation elected a bumbling fuck-up cuz we'd wanna have a beer with him.
In 2004, John Kerry was very qualified to become president of this nation and our nation re-elected this bumbling fuck-up cuz he was a "credible, honest guy".
And we wonder why we get the candidates we do? At this point, we as a populus haven't proven we deserve anything better!

I'm not saying Dubya was/is over qualified to lead this Nation, but calling kerry 'Very Qualified' is a gross and egregious statement. Pull your head out of your ass.

Yea....a guy who wrote a book in 1997 (The New War) which discussed the threat of organizations without nation-states and how to combat it, clearly didn't understand our changing world. We certainly couldn't use a person like that to run our foreign affairs. Indeed we got a bumbling fuck-up who attacks random nation states who don't threaten us.
Needless to mention his 20+ year record in the Senate. His work on Iran-Contra alone is pretty remarkable.

The most important issue to me in this election is Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and restoring America's credibility and honor in the world. Because of that my first choice is John McCain. He's got the brains and experience to know what the effects of the various options on Iraq would mean, (even if none of them are good options at this point), and the political courage to impliment policies that would give us the best chance at salvaging something positive in Iraq and without getting soldiers killed for his political gain. I think he's the guy most likely to do what's necessary in Iraq even when the public just wants us to abandon the place. He's also the only Republican candidate that isn't stupid or hateful enough to attack Iran when we don't even have the military capacity to win in Iraq. But because conservatives prefer one of the Bush clones he appears unelectable.
My second choice is Hillary. In part that's because she's the only electable Democrat simply because she's the only one with the testicles to defend herself against the inevitable Republican smear campaign. The other D candidates are all set to lose a general election for the same reasons Gore and Kerry did, (both of whom had infinitely better resumes to be the most powerful man in the universe than the retarded chimp they lost to), which was to appear weak and wishy-washy in the face of Republican attacks and to treat a moron in a national debate like he wasn't a moron. Hillary is the most likely candidate to call that shit what it is and finally prevent it from being a successful presidential campaing strategy - in which case we all win.
While I don't like the way she's played politics with Iraq I do think the fact that she's played both hawk and dove, and in the context of wanting to become President, I think she would be in a position to make the hard decision of staying in Iraq and doing what we can despite the public call to abandon it and Republicans shifting as much of the blame for the current situation in Iraq onto her. Granted, that last point would depend on how she and Bubba have learned how not to get pushed around by Republicans like Bubba did. It would also require her to inform the public why she's making the hard decisions in the face of conservative attacks which Bill had the ability to do but chose not to spend the political capital on issues like Rwanda and Iraq. But, unlike the other Democratic candidates I think she's at least capable of it. I also think she's most likely to listen to the uniformed military rather than fire them for not agreeing with her.
Other than that I like that she's a moderate, she's smart, she's learned quite a bit from failures like her failed health care campaign as First Lady, she's gone to bat for New York after 9-11 and for returning soldiers' care when Bush has neglected them, she's worked modify the Patriot Act to protect civil liberties rather than to simply oppose it or blindly support it, I think she (and Bubba) are the best people to properly call the right-wing propaganda what it really is and begin the necessary process of reducing its legitimacy and helping to lure conservatism back from its current extremism. I think she'll bring smart, qualified professionals to head the federal agencies and not unqualified cronies and campaign contributers or corporate opponents of those agencies devoted to destroying them. She doesn't make up her own words.
On general terms Clinton supporters consider her strong, responsible, and capable of leading on most issues. And probably as importantly I think we look at what Republicans have to offer and it scares the shit out of us: more unnecessary wars of aggression run by people who don't know what they're doing, more cronyism, corruption, and policies that benefit the richest classes of Americans - who have only been gaining larger and larger shares of America's wealth for the last 60 years.
And perhaps most of all, her election would piss off all the wanna-be facist cocksuckers who accused me of treason for opposing the Iraq war and have decided she's the antichrist, (even though my kitten is the real antichrist), without a shred of substantive evidence as to why they hate her other than their pundits told them to. That would put a smile on my face that would last at least through her first term.

I am honestly agnostic about Hillary: she's been a good junior senator for my state, and she clearly knows what she's talking about. I've never been able to understand why she is so polarizing, and I don't think it's simply a case of Republicans being threatened by her and smearing her - although there's been a lot of that going around. There just seems to be an incredible amount of resentment towards her, and I've never heard a decent reason why.
I'm not a supporter, for sure. She was and is wrong about Iraq, I don't care for her stance on immigration and I never feel that she answers questions honestly. But I don't hate her like so many other people do.
Hater, can you explain?
