View Full Version : Ron and Fez stand alone!

I love Opie and Anthony, I also love the AFRO shows, but so many here seem to think that Ron and Fez need O+A to be successful. I think Ron and Fez are funnier than O+A, and they can stand alone and do quite well.

sure they can stand alone... i dont think anyone is diagreeing with you... but i will point out a few things...

The AFRO show were some of the best radio ever...

Many people like both shows humor... and a few horrible people might like O&A a little bit better

Ron & Fez love working with O&A

O&A love working with Ron & Fez

O&A
always had higher ratings than ron and fez (and while that may be
because O&A were in drivetime) it is always good to have a very
highly rated show as a leadin to your show... it will increase you
listener base

I always felt Ron and Fez were a smarter, more adult version. They certainly don't need O and A to be entertaining, but they did need help to get out of their awful commercial prison sentence. One hand washes the other. I think Ron and Fez will be helping O and A out much more in the long run...

God Bless Opie, Anthony, Jimmy, Ron, Fez, Spider-man and Dr. Pepper...
Never Rub Another Man's Rhubarb...

and it sucked and O&A bored the shit out of. I think it's Norton's
with his shocking sex shit. Norton Sux!!!!

I hope Ron and Fez
don't wind up this way. I hope they continue on doing their own thing.
I wish them the best of luck on XM. They are a far better show then

One word:

"Pests."

Some of us think fans like that just bring a show, ANY show, down. And with their close relationship with O&A at this point, it's depressing to think those kind of fans may become the norm.

What it comes down to, for me at least, is that R&F and O&A do very different kinds of shows. I don't want R&F to end up doing an "O&A-lite" because they're now in a situation where O&A are obviously the dominant voice/show. They set the tone for that station, far moreso than they ever did or could than at a station like WNEW. R&F are most definitely in O&A's court now, and I'd be pretty bummed out if that alters the tone of R&F's show, even just by "osmosis" of having even heavier fan crossover.

1979 << On the streets of your town... >> "You can tell some lies about the good times we've had, but I've kissed your mother twice...and now I'm working on your dad..."

I think both shows are clearly in the same genre and shoot for a similar audience, but Ron and Fez try to do something different day in and day out and are a better show for it. Each of us who are true R and F listeners know what I am talking about. Especially going back to the NY days, Ron and Fez are masters at utilizing their audience with comedy pyramids, make better use of what's going on it politics, entertainment, sports, etc., and never attempt to shock anyone (and I say that in comparing both shows on commerical radio, not with O and A in XM format).

I've always loved Opie and Anthony from their first WNEW days, but listening to them on XM, especially with Norton as a full-time third chair guy, is not the same as when it was just the two of them. Norton ruins the two man show like a third man ruins a three-man announcing team for a football broadcast. I think the addition of Norton took the show in a completely different direction than O and A were headed a few years ago. He's really a bright guy and makes truly insightful comments on a number of topics, but relies way too much on his verbal crutches, and that brings the other two guys down to his level of low-brow humor. I don't mind when they do it on their own, but they wouldn't do it that much without him talking about it as much as he does.

O&A still use filth as a crutch. Plain and simple. What kills me is they don't NEED to, but they do.

Ron and Fez are a more intelligent comedy show, hands down. I cringe when they move too far that way with drunken girl on girl make outs in the studio. I don't like it. Plus, it's terrible radio.

Why would I only expect a "DC show?" I've been listening for over 5 years. I expect R&F to do their show, period. What I've heard of O&A on XM sounds little like the radio they did on WNEW, and quite frankly, it wasn't very good. And I really enjoyed listening to them when they were on WJFK. Moe put it best. There doesn't seem to be a lot of effort in what they do, which flies right on the face of exactly why I like listening to R&F, and have, for years. A lot of the callers and "army" that O&A tend to have involved with the show nowadays seem to want to go out of their way to seem as awful, hateful and "cringe-worthy" as possible...what's so great about that? And how would that fit into the type of show R&F did in DC, NYC OR Florida? R&F being championed by O&A and tossed onto their own personal channel practically ensures THOSE fans are going to migrate over.

And if it makes me a snob or an asshole to not want those kind of callers/fans dragging the show down, fine. I think Ron and Fez do an amazing show now matter how they do it. However I just happen to think that they will make the show sound a lot more like the way it did at WNEW.

When I saw that it doesn't mean I am being critical of DC or the show it has evolved to, but rather my speculation as to how I think the direction of shows style will go. There were plenty of great shows out of DC and I loved listening to them. I just think they will go closer with the style that made their show the top rated program it was when it left the New York airwaves.

While many will argue that O&A are the reason people discovered R&F, for me personally, it's the other way around... I'm an O&A fan because of R&F. I'll admit I'm probably in the minority in this case, but I started listening to Dot Com one night real late, and it opened me up to the rest of the station. I listened to R&F for a good month before catching on to O&A.

That shows you the respect Anthony has for radio. He's on one of the most famous radio shows in NY and makes the time to come in and contribute more to R& F's show than he would his own show. He knew Ron and Fez were the true funny men on WNEW. O and A are great, BUT without Jimmy they would have to rely on more SHOCK JOCK radio bits.

RON & FEZ ARE THE TRUE SIDE SPLITTING, KNEE SLAPPING, PANT PISSING, GOOD OLE FASHION FUNNY RADIO.

IT'S GREAT TO HAVE THEM BACK.

Every time I see this thread title I want to sing..."and the cheese stands alone, the cheese stands alone, hi ho the derry-o the cheese stands alone".

When I was single and at a wedding, I'd get licquored up and during the cake cutting ceremony whenever they would sing that stupid song I would always always sing...

"the bride's cunt is fake"

Try it. No one ever notices.

The best AFRO shows for me were ARO shows. When Ope had to bolt for one reason or another.
So, you like it when Fez isn't there? Cuz an "ARO" show is "A"nthony, "R"on, and "O"pie.

quote:
this question is not to antagonize anyone at all... i am really just curious...

why
are some people on this board (not everyone but a few here and there)
afraid of having ron and fez associated with opie and anthony? isn't it
a good thing to have 2 strong shows associated with each other?

Because O&A fans have destroyed O&A's
show, and the last thing people want is for them to affect the better
radio show in a negative way.

AFRO shows are great,
or FAR shows specifically, Opie sucks..But the Ron and Fez show is
great too. People seem to be talking too much about AFRO shows as
aposed to Ron and Fez. Like they don't have a personality without
O&A. There should be more talk about how the show will change
on satellite. I imagine Ronnie has some stories about angel dust
and strippers that will benefit from the move.
That was my brain working faster than my fingers. It seems fairly obvious I meant ARF!

O&A fans were a certian percentiage of R&F's callers and fans
on WNEW and the show was fine... i assume it will be a similar # of
fans calling in... nothing major is going to change... and you will
learn how funny it is to get the first call from alabama
