It's almost time for football again....REAL football...none of that awful NFL crapAnyway, I know we got a lot of D-1 representin' in here, Me with my beloved Terrapins, Bama with his Tide, the lovely Aggie with A&M, DefDave with Clemson and Ozzie with Auburn...check in and lemme know what you think of your teams this yearI'm diggin my Terps, I think we are under the radar, although the ACC is super tough and so is our schedule, we open with Navy in B'Mo, and play VaTech and FlaSt back to back. I'm not deluded enough to think we will win the ACC, but I think we will go to a bowl game at the very least.  I love Gary Blackney's defense, even though the secondary is a little depleted, Garrick McPhearson and Josh Wilson are still pretty solid, and the LB corps, with big D'Qwell, Kersh, and David Holloway is lights out awesome...We lost Melvin Aleaze though to Prep School...so that was a lil bit of a setbackThe problem remains the Offence...which is still pretty shaky. We're starting out with Slingin' Sam Hollenbach, because basically there is no one else.  Jordan Steffy is hurt and might redshirt, and Joel Statham has control issues.  Eleanor Roosevelt High School product Josh Allen destroyed his knee last year against Wake Forest in Willis McGahee like fashion, so he is redshirting this year, leaving us with the four stooges at running back, Mario Merrils, Lance Ball, Keon Lattimore (Ray Lewis' brother) and JP Humber...this is a very young team, 47 freshmen and 26 sophomores, but we still have the best TE in the country, the Duke, Vernon DavisSome other big stories in college football:*The Ball Coach back at South Carolina - I think it will take a few years, but Spurrier will have that program on a winning track...the guy wins every where he goes in college football...hell he even won at Duke*Everyone is suckling at the teat of the Big Ten *rolls eyes**USC - I dont think anyone is going to beat them...honestly I don't. And after what they did to OU last year, I refuse to bet against them ever again*Texas - A lot of people are saying this is their year, OU is down and Vince Young is all-world, but I'll believe it when I see it...especially a Mack Brown coached team*Penn State - Another team everyone is making a big fuss over, because JoePa landed a couple of really good recruits, like Eleanor Roosevelt High School product Derrick Williams.  The thing about Penn State is though, I think if anything they are a victim of bad timing.  Just as they started to go down the tubes a few years ago, the programs around them like MD, and VaTech and UVA started to win, and as a consequence, they aren't getting the kids they got years ago.  Take Jordan Steffy for example, he's a Pennsylvania guy and was one of the top QB's in the country, and if this had been 15 years ago when MD stunk, he woulda gone to Penn State easily...but not anymore....and MD just got a verbal committ from some hotshot Pennsylvania QB that will be a HS senior this year*Louisville - boy are they going to be good...really good...Theyve got a great QB, Brian Brohm, who played a little bit with Stefan LeFors last year and they are playing in a watered down conference, the Big East....i look for big things from them...and watch out for Mike Price and UTEP...with Jordan Palmer(Carson's brother) they could be this year's UtahSo let's get ready to go...I'm fired up....

Watch out for USC's freshman linebacker Brian Cushing.  Only 18 and 6'2" 240 pounds.  He's a superstar waiting to happen.I'm not just saying this because i know the kid's father.

I REALLY don't like Texas....maybe its the whole Mack Brown thing with his North Carolina connection....or how he gets like in the top 5 of recruiting classes every year and never ever wins a game that matters...until last years Rose Bowl, and that was only by a point....Plus Roger Clemens is an alumnus..

Thanks Monsterone And Fallon<hr color="cococo" align="left"> That's a pretty widely-held assumption, and it's very wrong (don't feel bad, most everybody makes that mistake). The truth is Penn State has never gotten the best PA talent. Steffy may be a fine player, we'll have to see, but the best PA QB his year was a kid by the name of Chad Henne. If you don't know who he is, check your nearest Heisman candidate list, he'll be there. Penn State was after him hard, he went to Kerry Collins' High School, and PSU was in his final 2. Went out of state to the Wolverines (following quite a list recently--Mundy, Breaston, Marlon Jackson, the Tight End from Erie who's name I can't remember).

If you check the hall of fame (pro or college) it's littered with PA QB's that went other places--Joe Montana, Jim Kelly, Joe Namath, etc...

And there is a list of more recent 'top rated' guys (mostly spectecular failures, but still speaks about where PA talent goes...) Ron Paulus, Dan Kendra (verbally commited to PSU before changing his mind), Jeff Smoker, Matt Schaub... Schaub was an interesting case--quote from Paterno was 'this was a kid in the old days we would have recruited just to keep away from other schools.' Drafted in the second round if I remember correctly?

And that's just QBs...

Good point Freakshow....Matt Schaub had a pretty good career at UVA, and is now Mike Vick's backup, and has been pretty good in that regard..Actually, a funny story about Namath, he was actually going to go to Maryland..he had basically committed there, but he didn't have the test scores to get in, so Lee Corso got on the phone to Bear Bryant and told him about how good Namath was..And the rest is history...<img src="http://scripts.cgispy.com/image.cgi?u=BigCoop" border="0" /> Powered by <a href="http://www.cgispy.com/">CGISpy.com</a> .... Cowherd KILLED Spurrier yesterday on the radio....Basically made the point that he won't recruit there because of 1) The SEC and 2) the emergence of the ACC as one of the best conferences in the country..And also, he said when Spurrier came into the SEC, no one had really seen anything like him as far as how wide open his offense was...Urban Mayer is basically the evolution of Steve Spurrier, because he's bringing in a revolutionary new offense to the SEC that no one has really been exposed to...Spurrier is not really going to surprise anyone this time...

Utah won again...squeaked by Arizona... Lots of good games this weekend, most of which I will miss, Notre Dame/Pitt, Boise St., The Crab Bowl (MD vs. Navy for the first time in 40 years, Navy stopped playing us cause one of our linebackers gave the Navy fans the finger not once but twice), Va Tech and NC State Sunday, and Miamah and Florida State monday...Should be some good stuff..and next week, Texas goes into Columbus...

Well, Aggie, my extreme laziness has caused me to continue to use
the bitch icon, although I don't think we're gonna lose.  Its the
first game since we beat SC last year, and the fans are going to go
absolutely nuts.  Today is the prototypical homefield advantage
game.  We probably should lose to A&M, but with this crowd
behind the team, I think they're going to put up a fight.  BTW, its 7 am and I'm on my way to tailgate for a game that doesn't kickoff until 8 pm.  God I love colleg football!

As much as I hate to say it.  OU, not done.  One loss seldom eliminates a team, especially a loss this early. They run the table and they might find themselves back in it.I seem to remember a lot of support for a USC team a couple of years ago which was the best team in the country at the end of the year, and had not one, but 2 losses.

I just found a new channel on my tv. It's called CSTV. Apparently
they show only college sports. Maryland and Navy are on right now.
That's cool. With that and fox sports net that's like 10 extra games
every saturday- DEAR GOD I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR.

Derrick Williams Update for El Mudo:

3 catches 38 yards. 3 rushes 3 yards.

1 Kickoff return 14 yards.

Might not look like much, but I must say it was a good performance for a true freshman playing his first college game in front of 100,000+ people.

The offense seemed designed to run through him. The first drive for PSU was a long pass could have been a huge play, but D-Will was held and the ball was a past him.

The best thing, though, for me, was a block at the end of a 60+ yard run for RB Tony Hunt (a TC Williams Titan, by the way). Williams raced down the field and made a block at the end of the run.

Good win today for my Terps....didn't see a down though...but still glad they won...Only game I saw to-day was Bowling Green/Wisconsin, which looks like it was the best game of the day...All I have to say is Omar Jacobs = Wow...I mean, last year he threw for 4,000, 41 TDs and 4 Interceptions, and from what i saw of him to-day....just...wow...he's easily the best QB I have seen in a long time, and if you get a chance to catch a Bowling Green game on TV this year, get a look at this guy...he is a good one..And the guy is only a Junior..I was also very impressed with what I saw out of Wisconsin's Brian Calhoun..he had 258 and 5 TD's...he's a transfer from Colorado...a lil small, but he looked pretty powerful out there..Wisconsin's throwback Uni's were also great...I didn't see a down of that Oklahoma game, but I bet I can tell you what happened....TCU put 10 guys in the box to stop Peterson, and OU couldn't beat them throwing...how long before they're screaming for Rhett Bomar?...And OU has to be the prime example right now of not putting out rankings at least until about 2 or 3 weeks into the season...they definitely aren't number 7 in the nation right now..And break up the Irish...they are killing Pitt right now...I feel bad for Boise...a lot of people were saying this was the most important game in the history of their program..and they got destroyed by DJ Shockely and Georgia...

Anybody catch that Miami/FSU game ?I turned it on with 7 minutes left and think I saw all I needed to see as far as action.Both QB's numbers were terrible at least for a Miami/FSU game.I'm not sure if FSU's defense is really that quick or if Miami's O-line was really that bad but those dudes looked fast.I didnt care who won the game although I might have been pulling for FSU as the lower ranked team so that it might shake up the rankings.

Oklahoma's troubles just show how important QB play is in College Football...when you've got no one to throw and no one to throw to, any team with that doesn't stink is going to beat them soundly...Their offence is so pathetic, they never even threw the ball once in the entire second half against Tulsa...Maybe Stoops shoulda cut his losses a few years back, but then again, every program has some down years...theyve been sucessful for 5 straight years, and they have a really young team..We'll see how good USC is in the coming weeks...they open up PAC-10 play in Autzen, which is a helluva tough place to play..And Louisville? Holy crap...they were down like 10 yesterday early in the 2d quarter...I see the score flash by again, and theyre up 35-10....

Goddamn I fucking hate Phat Phil Phulmer.  His attempts to pussy out of playing LSU in Baton Rouge Saturday night were fucking pathetic and obvious... saying shit like, "I wouldn't take my own kids into that area...", and "everyone else is evacuating, why would we go into a place like that?".I know the storm is predicted to hit closer to the Louisiana line than originally predicted, but Baton Rouge is a loooong way from where it's projected to hit, and NO fatass, they're not evacuating anywhere near Baton Rouge.  But even if it were closer, and a real threat, after LSU already rescheduled one HOME game to a visitor's stadium, and after all the shit that state and university went through after Katrina, I'd expect any other coach to, if anything, state his concern but be flexible and try to make every effort to play the game AT LSU, and as close to the original game time as possible so the LSU fans travelling to the game can still go.It was obvious that Tennessee wanted LSU to either do what they did for the Ariz State game and play it in Knoxville (huge disadvantage for LSU), or reschedule it until the week of the SEC Championship game, and expect that game, and the following bowls, to push out and work around his fatass fucking schedule... most likely in hopes that MAYBE by then he MIGHT have his shit together and ONE quarterback worth a fuck.LSU already rescheduled North Texas into their only open date, so they're already going to be playing the rest of the season straight through with no off weeks.  Shit, Texas A&M and others had no problem being proactive and playing their games SOONER just to make sure to get the game in, and then get their players and fans out in plenty of time.Lazy, fat, pussy fuckface.  Did I mention that I fucking hate Fulmer?Anyway, I was relieved and excited when I heard this evening that they finally decided to just postpone the game until Monday Night at LSU.  I wasn't looking forward to watching the Chiefs and Broncos anyway.

Good win for the Fightin' Terps today...got Virginia next week for homecoming...should be goodVa Tech dropped 51 today on Ga Tech...boy they are good...but I agree with Mark May...I think Texas is a little better than them now, because Texas beat a really, really, really, really good Ohio State team in the Horseshoe...we'll see what happens when they have to play Miamah and get deep into the ACC Sked...This just in...Southern Cal is really good...Oregon was up 13 on em, and then they just blew up...45 unanswered points...Reggie Bush made two of the most unbelieveable plays ive EVER seen...one play he lost his shoe in the backfield, but still ripped off an 8 yard gain, and in the other, he ran all the way to one side of the field completely, reversed his field and looped all the way back around the other end to get six...There are a lot of good backs out there....I watched most of the Minnesota/Purdue game, and this Laurence Maroney kid is a monster...had 217 on 46 carries....and i've been on the Brian Calhoun (Wisconsin) bandwagon since week 1...they pulled one out over michigan today..Louisville got destroyed by South Florida...45-14...that's not a typo..Irish won again today...

Wow, the loss to Miami took a lot out of me last week, and the loss
to BC completely crushed me.  I knew coming into the season that 6
or 7 wins would be a successful season (aTm, MD, Miami, BC, NC State,
GA Tech, FSU, and Spurrier-coached SC).  A loss is one thing, but
two OT losses in a row that both could have been won sucks.  
I think its time to get rid of Tommy Bowden.

we're watching this and we keep saying it's good for us if Tennessee
wins. We want LSU to lose because that opens the door for both of our

Derrick Williams update for El Mudo--scored twice in the game, both on rushes. He scored his first TD last week against Northwestern, and it was the game winner. Has lined up pretty much everywhere but on the OL... WR, RB, Returning Kicks, even QB for a couple of snaps. He's as good as advertised.

That's exactly what he did at E-Roos...they lined him up everywhere...sometimes at QB, sometimes at WR, sometimes at RB and KR...and some CB as well....I think it will hurt him in the end if he doesn't find a position...."Athletes" generally don't make it in the L...but we'll see if Matt Jones can make it work....

Texas pummeled Oklahoma....45-12...knew that was coming...OU is just way too young right now and their offense is making Maryland's offense from last year look like the Fun N' Gun.....I think they had 175 yards in total offense today...Michigan lost again, and they've got Penn State coming in next week, who unfortunately won tonight...beat Ohio State 17-10...knocked the Buckeyes right out of the Championship race...Penn State is the only team left in the Big 10 undefeated....Upset of the day...Wisconsin lost to Northwestern 51-48...Terps roll over Temple...now have 2 weeks to prepare for revenge against Va Tech...Dude, that game against Va Tech? I'm not even literally going to be able to go to school that day. I commute, and its going to be impossible to park anywhere...They're closing all the lots at 10 am, and if you aren't out by 4 pm, your vehicle will be "relocated" (i have classes till 445 that day)...And after 4, no one is allowed on campus who doesn't have a student parking permit or a football parking permit...I'm just staying away from Campus that day....

Frank Broyles can lick my fucking sack!  Take that you inbred hick!  I hope you made plenty of money on ticket sales and consessions while the rest of your fans and all of us over here had to try to listen to it on the fucking radio!Since none of the networks picked it up, for the last two weeks The Auburn Network has been trying to get Frank'n'puss Broyles to allow them to come in and televise the game and offer it up on pay-per-view, which would mean that ESPN GamePlan would pick it up as well... but NOPE!  His first excuse was because the game wasn't sold out, so the AU Network offered to buy up any unsold tickets and guaranteed a blackout in the state of Arkansas, but still NO!  And no valid reason why not given.The piggiebacks are slowly moving up on my hated team list... only slightly behind the Volunqueers.I sent out the notice last Wednesday that I will be closing the mfg department down at lunch next Friday, and the entire building will be closed next weekend.11:30 - Arkansas @ Georgia (JP)2:30 - Tennessee @ Bama (CBS)6:45 - Auburn @ LSU (ESPN)No chance to get tickets (or a hotel) in Baton Rouge, so I'm doing the next best thing and watching this game with the mfg supervisor (Dye hard AU fan) and our painter, the biggest coonass LSU fan.  We should know a lot more about the SEC after this weekend.Oh, and it's a given that we'll be off on November 19th as well.  (Two of our three directors graduated from Bama).Should be hope for some movement up in the polls this week...#4 FSU - LOST#5 - Georgia won ugly#6 - Bama... just to point out that you can't really judge berkeley by that last game- they were missing their top 4 receivers. the only real receiver they had that game had been a redshirt freshman that they had to activate in the middle of the season. so no passing game, rodgers looked like shit, the running game gets stuffed, and the downward spiral is well on its way. trust me, i think berkeley played like crap, but having seen a few of their games (like the usc game- the only game that they had their 2 top receivers, even if it was only for one half) that last game was not representative.

im just annoyed by college football rankings and such because (1) most people haven't really seen most of the games, they just go by reputation and final score, and (2) a team can lose to a top ranked team and drop in the poll, while another team beats a crap team with a losing record, and they move up.

*sigh* well we lost a close one tonight 28-9....it was a lot closer than that score indicates...The D forced 4 turnovers and the offense did, in the words of the immortal Jim Mora, diddly-poo...by the middle of the 4th quarter they were out of gas and Tech got a couple TD's lateMissed two makeable FGs, had a TD called back...You can't make mistakes when you play teams like VPI, and you can't pass up on opportunities over and over again...I really hope someone pummels Tech now too...they've definitely made my shit list...them and their hack fans....

Roll Tide! Big win today over Tennessee 6-3....Clausen got pummeled late in the game and fumbled out of the endzone, Bama took over and drove for the winning field goal...I was excited to watch this game all week, and I ended up falling asleep before it and missing the whole game...Other stuff:-Georgia lost DJ Shockley...I think its a sprained MCL-Auburn lost a real tough game to Louisiana State in OT...i'm already hearing it called "The Upright Game"-Stinker of the day goes to Virginia....losing 7-5 to North Carolina...2nd place goes to Michigan State...who got DESTROYED at home by Northwestern(!) 49-14...Where the heck did Northwestern come from? All of a sudden theyve got a really good QB in Brett Basinez and a good RB in Tyrell Sutton and are playing real good football..-Brady Quinn was lights out for the Irish today...470 yards, Six (6) Touchdowns...4 to Chauncey Stovall, who had 14 catches for over 200 yards...all Irish records...-Good to see both Army and Navy win today...-As predicted...Texas pum-pum-pummeled Texas Tech 52-17...I still don't understand WHY anyone thought Tech would give Texas a run...All you had to do was glance at the ol' schedule...

Here's an interesting piece from Ivan Maisel of ESPN.com calling out the SEC....Are SEC Defenses this good or are SEC Offenses this mediocre? The statistics tell a story that can be heard across the nation. Seven
SEC schools rank in the top 19 in scoring defense. Six rank in the top
14 of pass efficiency defense. Seven rank in the top 23 in total
defense. 

 

Ole Miss, No. 23, would lead the Pacific-10 Conference by 27 yards per
game. But what is the story those numbers tell us? It might not be as
simple as good ol' Southern defense. 

 

If no one knew it before Saturday, the two-quarterback situation at
Tennessee has become painful to watch. Alabama hasn't been the same
since wide receiver-kick returner <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=146683">Tyrone Prothro</a>
broke his leg against Florida on Oct. 1. The Gators' offense, trying to
adjust to Urban Meyer's spread option, is in mid-August form; that is,
in dire need of two-a-days. 

 

Ole Miss and South Carolina, like the Gators, are trying to learn new
systems, a huddle of square pegs trying to squeeze into round holes.
Mississippi State is injury-riddled, the result of playing freshmen on
the offensive line. Auburn, after early struggles with inexperience, is

To get a better handle on the quality of the SEC offenses, it would
help to look at their nonconference games -- if, that is, any teams in
the SEC played nonconference competition that challenged them. 

 

LSU did, and the Tigers put up 35 points and 434 total yards at Arizona
State, but no one disputes the belief that LSU has the best talent in
the SEC. 

 

Tennessee will play Notre Dame and Memphis next month. Alabama played
Southern Mississippi. Auburn played -- and lost to -- Georgia Tech. But
those games are the exception. The typical SEC team would rather buy
home games than play teams of a stature that would demand home-and-home
-- that is, teams that could beat it. 

 

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, in a luncheon speech Monday, blamed the
national media in general, and ESPN in particular, for anointing Texas
and USC as the chosen ones at the beginning of the season. Blaming the
big, bad national media is a tried and true method of rousing the
rabble. 

 

If I believed for a minute that what Chris, Kirk, Lee or anyone else
said about any school influenced a voter, I'd give Tuberville's theory
credence. But I used to be a voter, and most voters I know would vote
against something said on GameDay just to prove they aren't controlled
by ESPN. 

 

More to the point, Auburn, and the rest of the SEC, would have a better
case if it deigned to play teams from other, equal conferences. 

 

Texas proved itself nationally by winning at Ohio State. USC proved
itself by winning at Notre Dame. All SEC schools have proved this year
is that they don't like to play tough nonconference games. 

 

The defense in the SEC is very good; defense wins championships; etc.
But let's not get carried away. The offenses are mediocre.

So let me get this straight because Texas finally plays a decent non-conference team on the road thats supposed to make up for the fact that they played 0-6 Rice ( who has yet to give up less than 41 points in  game while scoring less than 20 ) and 2-5 ULL ( who has given up an average of 31+ points per game ) ?UGA on the other hand has played a lame ULM team ( which is better than ULL in its own division ), last year's darling Boise St ( at 5-2 with the loss to UGA and to PAC10 Or St ) and will eventually play Ga Tech ( at 4-2 with a win against Auburn and a loss against Va Tech ).

I can't see how Texas could hold on if Bama beats three consecutive ranked opponents ( LSU, Auburn & UGA/UF ).I also don't see how any writer jumped Miami over Bama.All Miami did was beat a team that was more than likely over-rated to begin with AND lost to a team, FSU, that now has 2 losses against teams with a combined record of 9-7.

The BCS is such a giving thing.  Gives everyone something to complain about. Texas has a death grip on the computer polls (if not unanimous, then #1 in 5 out of 6) that without losing a game they will not fall from the two spot.  Even if Alabama replaces Texas at the top of the computer polls, Texas still has a human poll advantage.  And the human polls are weighted higher than the computer polls anyway.  Without the human polls jumping Alabama over Texas, there is very little chance they can jump in the BCS.But it's all moot, as Alabama does not win all 3 upcoming games (if they make the SEC title game).  Not without their injured reciever.

Then maybe Tuberville and Spurrier have a point.Texas has not played as tough a schedule as a lot of people have made it out to be.As I posted previoulsy they played Ohio St but they also played am awful ULL team.That OK team they beat shouldnt be confused in any way with ones of the previous 5 years.If Bama runs the table, which I think will be tough to do, I could see some gutsy voters leaping Bama over Texas if, and even if not, they play an unimpressive game.I mean that means Bama will have beaten a #5, #15 and either a #9 or #12 depending on who they play between UGA & UF.How could you beat 3 top 15 teams an not leap a team who hasnt played a top 10 team since the start of the season ?

And Miami probably will have to play FSU again, but they'll pummel them...And lets not forget nothing is guaranteed with Texas either....wouldn't be surprised if they drop a game...And Southern Cal still has some very tough games with Cal and Cal-Los Angeles coming up..Itll be fun to watch this all play out...but God help us all if everyone ends up with one loss....

Texas isn't losing, not this year anyway.  SC is ripe for a loss ::looks Fresno State's direction::And Alabama looks like a team of destiny about as much as UCLA looked like a team of destiny.  See how that turned out.Alabama OOC--Middle Tennessee State, Utah State, Southern Mississippi. I'm not saying that it should be the way it is, i'm just trying to explain why it is what it is.  Alabama is getting nothing from computer polls.  USC isn't really even getting much from the computer poll.  I don't agree with jumping Miami over Alabama, the VT game just proved the Hokies overrated not that Miami is particularly worth (not more than any other game they've played).And USC not capable of losing?  Weren't they one questionable play away from losing in South Bend?

Yeah those ULL and Rice OCC games should really bolster Texas' chances.How can anybody say the USC looks vulnerable or even capable of losing.They had put the Stanford game away before the 2nd quarter.The same Stanford team that UCLA had to come from behind to beat.And Fresno St ?  That win against Weber St should've been a good tune up for USC.Southern Cal's defense is pretty leaky (they lost a ton of guys off of last years squad and they have a lot of kids and injuries)....their ability to just outscore everybody by 70 points is the reason they're winning frankly..which isn't necessarily a bad thing, because they can beat any one in a shootout...but sooner or later lack of reliable Defense comes back to haunt even the best of offenses (see Vikings, Minnesota, late 1990s)...The main problem I see with Southern Cal is that it seems to me they think they can "turn it on" and "turn it off" whenever they choose to....One of these games they're going to come out flat....I don't really expect them to drop games to Cal or Cal-Los Angeles, but if they do, I wouldn't be surprised...Records are meaningless in rivalry games...even in pussy PAC-10 football..And UCLA was coming from behind to beat EVERYBODY...not just Stanford...The only tough out o' conference game Texas played was against Ohio State....and they only won that because of Tressel's brain fart...As Bama said, the SEC is the SEC....the Big 12 is the Big 12 and it stinks this year....There are no easy games in the SEC....

That Vandy/UF game the other night was good.Terrible " celerbartion " flag thrown on the tying TD that took away the shot at the ballsy " go for 2 and the win " chance.The only other time I remember seeing Vandy on prime time was a Thursday night ESPN game against ND back in like 1996.I think thats the game where ND held on to win 14-13.

It was back in 96 ( bowl game played in Jan 97 ) where UF beat an undefeated FSU for the title.The big outrage there was that only a few weeks prior FSU had already beaten UF.I cant remember what happened to allow UF to jump back up to #2 though.It might have been the year UCLA was undefetaed until the last game which they lost and the game when Texas beat Nebraska in the Big 12 title game and UF beat Bama maybe in the SEC title game that allowed them to go back to the #2 spot.

That Bama loss sucked.I dont see how Miami should get any bonus points this week, outside of the fact that Bama lost, because Bama will have lost to a team with 1 loss while Miami lost to a team that has lost 3 games so far and may wind up with 2 more ( UF and Miami ).I'm hoping A&M or Colorado can come up with a big upset against UT.I think it'll be a mess if we start debating 1 loss teams.I dont see USC losing to any of theses teams and that includes Texas/Miami/LSU in a title game.Sure Cal wasnt as good as anybody thought but it was once again a case of USC taking control to start a game ( unlike what they did earlier in the year against ASU and Oregon ).I was listening to Gameday on Sirius on Saturday and Mel Kipper and some other guy, cant remember who the 3rd host is of that show, where going at it.The other guys point was that Miami was better than Bama ( before the loss ) because they beat Va Tech and Kipper was like " maybe Va Tech was an over-rated team. They havent beaten anybody of substance " Maryland exposed them as being limited offensively...Go back and watch the game...Pressured Vick all night and forced him into throwing 3 INTs...had two goal line stands...Just didn't have the athletes....offense couldn't get it done and the D eventually ran out of gas....that didn't happen to Miami...

I watched the entire 2nd half of that game ( Fresno St/USC ) last night and now realize that Bush must win the H-man.Prior to that performance I was all for Leinart becuase I couldnt see how his numbers could be better than last year and he would be considered behind Vince Young and his awful schedule and not win it.There are 2 thoughts here. If Leinart doesnt get any credit for maintaing this 34 game winning streak because you believe that its a year by year award then you can not " Not " vote for him because he won it last year.  Thats completely ridiculous. There's still a part of me that thinks they win because of Leinart, even with all that Bush does, but Bush's performance last night was old school Rocket Ismail like ( unfortuantely he got screwed the year he should've won it ).He was doing things at will.And even when he made the " mistake " of fumbling a kickoff, that he was lambasted by the announcers for taking out of the endzone despite having done it earlier and gained 40 yards as opposed to the 20 for the touchback and having them drool all over him at that point, which he followed with a 15 yard personel foul ( very bad call seeing as though the Fresno St jokers were " celebrating after every stinking stop on defense ) he put USC on his back and had 3 huge plays on the drive to give them the lead for good.Even if voters read about it they wont get as much effect as if they saw the moves that Bush made.They were like videogame moves.I will say that USC's defense at times can be very pourous.I mean if they play defense for entire games the way they do when they need to ( like last nights final Fresno drives ) they should be beating teams 100-7. The offense is constantly bailng them out. I do think that this team will beat anybody it sees in the title game.I was never really anti-USC prior to them becoming good again but I have been supporting them for the most part since they got screwed in the old LSU/OK title game a few years agao.I am for the most part and SEC guy ( went to LSU ) but I'm an ND fan and I think that this streak for USC ( I think they've now beaten 15 ranked teams in this streak which is a record ) is incredible.They are fun to watch. Much like the old Florida teams under Spurrier.It might suck for the H-man though because I think Leinart and Bush will split west votes, Young will probably get all southern votes, and I think Eastern votes will be divided evenly between the 3.

I've been getting a little annoyed at all of the penn St sentiment going around.I am by no means anti-Penn ST or anti-Joe Pa but for people to say that they " deserve " a shot at the title is ridiculous.They should be granted some mysterious pass because Joe Pa took the team in the tank for 10 years and now has them winning again ?They are a very good team and I think that if Texas loses they should get to play USC but I think that if USC loses they are still better than Penn St and I think that they should play for the title.The same goes for Coach Of The Year.Should Paterno get it because he unf*cked his own mishandling the last few years ?I guess its the same as Giambi " coming back " to his old numbers ( tainted ) from his own self-impossed injuries.I think there should be a difference between COYT and Comeback Coach.

Zzzzz.  Settle down re re, ND has been out of the BCS picture way more than in it over the last ten years.  I think once outside of this year, perhaps not even that many times.  Point being that if you say the same thing every year and finally you hit the mark in the tenth year, it means you predictions suck.  In fact, it might be up there with ESD's skill.  Yet ESD at least does it with humor and he's not trying to brag.  Go Spurs (right HHH?)<img src="http://members.aol.com/dxixrxt/spoon2.jpg" border="0" /> Get your balls out of your purse and step up to flavor! you're right, that's never gonna happen. UNLESS Congress flexes their muscles and brings the college presidents to their knees. Everybody said the MLB Players Union would never bow to steriods testing or the banning of amphetimines (sp?) but Congress steps in and look what happens. College Presidents are not above Congress no matter what they think.  Do I think Congress has better things to worry about? Yes. But they're right, the system sucks and they're the only ones with the power to change it. I welcome them stepping in to try and correct this cluster fuck we call the BCS.

Overall I'm pleased with the results of today...especially since the Seminoles are in the process of pummeling VPI, and I'm always pleased when VPI is getting pummeled...Early line on SC/Texas is SC by 6....I'll make my National title prediction right here....USC wins by 35...seriously...its not even going to be close...all i can keep thinking of is how this compares to last year's game, when Oklahoma had killed everybody in the regular season and SC just pum pum pummeled them in the title game...'Exact same thing happens here....no doubt in my mind...And everyone can stop ripping the BCS now in five...four....three...two....

Good games yesterday.I had all my hopes come true with the exception of Colorado shitting the bed to the tune of 70-3.It was funny watching Pete Carroll still throwing the ball up 40+ points.And that douche Mack Brown had his D-cooridinator still blitzing when they were up by 67 pointsThats classless and why that assbag will never win the big game ( and no the Big 12 title game is not a big game when you play a team with 4 losses ).

I thought congress getting involved was a joke at first until I really dwelled on it.  The NCAA, especially in terms of college football, is a highly profitable BUSINESS.  Unfortunately this means that it doesn't usually have the athlete's/kid's best interest in mind when making it's decisions.  Being that it is a business, Congress and the US government has every right to be involved if they think things aren't up to code.  I'm not a political or business genius, and I may be a little biased here, but I've pulled a complete 180 on them getting involved.  Unless we have a change in this system, there will never be a true underdog as the champ.  The Utahs, TCUs, Oregons and other great, yet not undefeated teams will never get there chance (along with many other undefeated second tier teams in terms of conferences).  Bottom line is that the playoff can easily be done, with the school bringing in even more money and they can still have extra bowl games on the side if they want.

The lower schools have a shot at making big bowl games if they'd stop playing ridiculous 1-AA and D-II teams.Its a catch 22 for a lot of those schools because they have to win in order to be considered but they can only assure wins against lower level D-I teams and lower.You can't look at college footbal records and say teams are comparable.A 10-1 Penn St team is not even close to say a 10-1 Boise St team.Its just silly to think that thats the case.As far as colleges making money off of sports sure thats true.But so you think Reggie Bush could/would pay the $25K a semester it takes to go to USC if the school wasnt fitting the bill ?

They are playing up trhe Rose Bowl way too much already.Some writers on ESPN.com are calling this the best BCS title game ever and maybe one of the best games ever.How so ?While USC is undoubtedly a great team Texas is not even close.Sure they are undefeated but that just makes them a good team.The OK team of last year, with Adrian Peterson running the way he did last year, was much better than this Texas team.They are also saying that Young maybe the 2nd best H-man runner up ever.Where is this nonsense coming from ?Way too much hype being made over a guy that's gonna lose the title game by 20+ points.

I was just using them as a reference since last year they were " slighted ".But who in the Big 12 has a reason to complain ?Oregon cant complain this year because the played Montana of the Big Sky Conference.Auburn played Ball St and West KY.While ND's schedule doesnt look formidable in relation to their opponents' record they would never schedule a DII or I-AA team.ND played 3 teams from the Big 10, 3 teams from the PAC 10, 2 from the Big East, 1 from the SEC, 1 from the Mountain West and 1 Independent.Any other year at least 7 of their opponents would be going to bowls and quite possibly at least one in a BCS game.

Yeah I've watched Texas play.I saw them give up huge runs to a backup QB on an unranked team.I saw them give up 28 to an unranked Ok St team before coming back to win.I saw USC this weekend shut down the QB with the best offensive numbers out there.USC's defense looks weak because its on the filed every 5 minutes.When your offense averages 7+ yards per play its kinda tough to rest the defense.And even if you used the absurd idea that Texas' defense is great USC's offense is leagues better than its peers.A 3000 yard passer, 2 1000 yard rushers and 2 1000 yard receivers.Show me comparable numbers like that on Texas' defense.

How could you not understand that neither Oregon noe Auburn should have any complaint about not making a BCS game.They didnt play a schedule that's worthy of that kinda game.You think Young is great because he can scramble ?PleaseA real QB doesnt have to run for 80 yards when they can sit back and do their job and complete passes.So what Leinart does should be considered less because his offensive line is good ?He's lead his team to 34 straight wins including 15 against ranked teams.Young isnt even the 2nd best QB out there despite his hype.Even if you wanted to keep it to scrambling QBs Vick's numbers in his first year as a starter are pretty damn good.

I agree with the schedule difs, but Oregon only lost a decent game against USC.  To say they and the likes of PSU among others don't have a right to play for the title in the end is absurd.  I'm not saying they deserve it more then the two currently playing for the title, but I think they have earned a chance.  If it wasn't for Michigan's fucking whiny coach somehow getting more time on the clock early in their last drive, we would have an undefeated PSU as well.  Who's in and who's out then?  It all worked out as best it could for the BCS this year and it still blows.  PSU lost with one second left against an always tough game in Michigan.  As for the Big 12 I couldn't agree more.  I think USC should win, but they had plenty of close calls as well against shitty teams.  Sometimes teams lose that game they'd win 9 times out of 10.  Everything just goes their way (lesser team).  Your point on the weak schedules being their own fault, adds to my playoff argument.  If teams could still be in the title hunt with a loss or two pending on their schedule, more teams would play better matchups during the year.  The overall year of NCAA football would be better bc of this alone.As for ND, they have that schedule bc that's how they make their money.  They don't belong to a conference, and have a fucking national tv deal and has to keep it's schedule up to par as per the contract.  Don't play the ND is the real man's team bc of their schedule, especially on a down year.  And being an ND fan IS being a front runner.  Just bc Dallas has been down of late in the NFL, being a fan of them in NYC is probably bc of front running.  They are the most popular team in NCAA football across the country.  Case closed.

fine representatives in the Fiesta Bowl. But Oregon did all that was
expected of them: win 10 games and lose one to USC. Ohio St. lost 2
games as did notre Dame (including a home game to Michigan St.). notre
Dame also had only 3 wins over teams with winning records. You can say all you want about NDs schedule this year based on how their opponents played but every year they are playing ranked teams.The fact that only 3 of the teams they played had winning records says as much about how much the PAC10, Big 10 and SEC suck as they played 7 teams combined from those leagues.As for Oregon I'll say it again you shouldnt be playing Big Sky teams if you want the chance to play in a 13 million dollar bowl game.As fars as being a front runner with ND its been the team I've watched since I started watching college football back in 1987. I've followed them every year since.Should I have picked a diamond in the rough back then ?As far as Young goes how about narrowing down his QB numbers a little more.What did you pick the one category he was actaully leading in ?Lets look at completion%, yards, and TDs.As fars as designed runs, for a mobile QB Young was only sacked one less time than Leinart.

You're still trying to penalize Leinart because he's got better players ?Than for that matter the guy playing QB at Army is better than Yong because hey Young's numbers are only better because he has more weapons that the Army guy.Well how about this, Leinart threw for 3000+ yards while at the same time handing it off to 2 guys that ran for 1000+ each.You dont have to run for 850 yards when you've got others that can do that for you.

rating, and the run aspect, young has better numkbers. And this
comparison was strickly leinart vs young. I think Quinn was the best QB
in college this year. It's all moot. Bush better get the Heisman, but

I picked passing efficiency because it's the composite of all those other stats. It was the first thing I looked up and I was surpised Young has such a significantly higher rating.

Young isn't lower in sacks because he's not running to escape pressure. If you would have read my previous post you would see why--he gains yards on designed runs.

And he's only a junior...

in the michigan nebraska game  in that last play the michigan that picked up the fumble and then lateraled back to another guy , while that guy was running down the sideline he only had 2 guys to beat and he had a blocker that he ran past, he should have held up a little andlet that guy block one of the nebraska defenders and actually if you see the replay he could have run back towards the middle of the field, from the looks of it there was only media people and plain clothes people in the middle and some of the nebraska players and coaches from the other side converging towards the middlemy point is he could have scored and michigan could have won, an interesting finish nonetheless

Ohio State just beat Notre Dame....the Irish just don't have the
athletes at this point to beat teams like Ohio State....it makes it
even more impressive they were able to do what they did this year as
far as the offense goes....Buckeyes just killed em with Ginn and
Holmes...And their defense did enough to hold the offense in
check...Brady Quinn had really no time to throw all game...And Troy
Smith came up huge on that last drive...which makes it even more
maddening to me that they sent out Justin Zwick for that last drive
against Texas...they shoulda won that game and I wouldnt be hearing all
