<p>It kills an extra step. They're doing it on their end for convience ant to eliminate extra printing costs on envelopes. They also are trying to make it idiot proof on your end. That way you can't print their address wrong and send it somewhere it shouldn't be going.</p><p>I'm sure some snot nosed 20-something kid right out of college making 100K a year sat around in a board room and figured out doing it this way saves them .8% on the year, so he got a corner office.</p>

<p>Maybe I'm just being stupid, but what about online bill-pay? With my OCD, I started doing it about a year ago and it kicks ass.</p><p> </p>

Well I do agree that they're kinda gay just because some nosey asshole could move the bill around inside and try to see bits of other info printed on the page front. Besides that, windowed envelopes are A-OK with the Big Funny Moe Money.

<p>I love bill paying online, but I still need the paper bills as a reminder to pay the damn things on time. The e-mail notifications just slip right by me...</p><p>Plus, my power company are total dicks and force me to pay by mail, since they charge a bullshit $2 "service fee" every time you pay online, the fucks.</p>

I have it set up through my bank. There's a bill payer area where you put who you're paying and the amount and it just happens. My car insurance and my cellphone are also setup with my bank info so I just pay the bill and I'm done. I've even paid car registrations online. The only bill I can't pay online is my car payments which I have all my envelopes pre-made up.

That seems fair.</p><p>I blame the Swiss.</p>

It's not fair, especially since out of the 20+ companies I've paid bills online with, they're the first and only to charge for the service. It's an outdated practice, and makes no sense. Personally, I pay the bill MUCH earlier when I can pay online, like I do with the rest that offer that service free. When it's a mail-in, it sends to sit around because of the slow-ass check process. GET IN THE NOW, MINOL!

The reason they print the address on the reply slip and use the window envelope is twofold:<div><br /></div><div>1. (as stated) It saves on envelope costs because they can get a gazillion printed and not worry about addresses being outdated, etc.</div><div><br /></div><div>2. (more importantly) These big companies use automatic sorters to open, scan, and process your payments. By using the address printed on the slip and the window, it forces you to put your slip in the right direction for the scanning machine and also makes you put your check behind the slip (where they want it). It's about the only idiot-proof way to make you put everything in the correct order so they can do it with computers and not people. That's also why they are so insistent that you don't staple anything (because it will fuck up their machines).</div><div><br /></div><div>Pay online.</div>

But another benefit to windowed envelopes is a case where the address is changed. They can just print a new address on the bill itself (Sometimes just the buisness name or PO box is changed slightly) and they don't have to throw away a bunch of envelopes with the wrong address printed on them. They can use the same windowed envelopes.</font></p><p><font color="#990000" size="2">I don't understand why people don't like them. What's the difference to you?<br /></font></p>
