What is it about Scratch-offs?

<p>So what is it about scratch-offs that people buy'em like crack? </p><p>I'm
on the road alot for my work and everytime I stop at the local 7-11,
WaWa, or Gas-mart, I see people buying that stuff like crazy. One dude
but like $40 worth and scratched them right there. And you got the
people that buy them and scratch those suckers in the car. I pulled up
at the local 7-11 in Springlake and the cars to both sides of me had
people scratching those scratch-offs.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I met up with
my co-worker for lunch and he busted out a scratch-off. I was like
&quot;Damn you by scratch-offs?&quot;. You think he won the jackpot with the
$4.00 win he scratch-off today. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>And worse
yet, my sister gives out scratch-offs as birthday presents with the
kicker--&quot;I get 50% if you win&quot;. She gave me $25 worth of scratch-off
for my birthday and I told her straight out- 50% of nothing is nothing.
It's like I'm buying you these for you but if you win, I want my cut.
Fuck you!</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>How bout people that scratch-off one
portion at a time. WHAT difference does it make? &quot;Oh, but it's
exciting&quot; they say. SURE it is.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>And does it really support education and all the other stuff? What percentage goes back for that?</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>So why do you buy scratch-offs and if you've won (whatever amount) did you buy more? Why? <br />

I think these things are kind of an gambling addiction. The same people who buy these like mad are the same ones you'd find perched in front of a slot machine for hours on end.
I never buy them, but I did buy about 15 of them once for my dad for a joke xmas gift, since he likes them. He won $50 bucks, too! But I'd never dream of demanding half the winnings. It's a gift for chrissakes! mdr55 I'd tell your sister to fuck off if you ever win off one of her "gifts."
