Listening to the AFRO show from a few days ago I just dont get
it. Ron and Fez seem like really nice guys, very funny with a
great show but I dont get the whole O&A thing. Now I've only
heard them a couple of times they arnt particularly funny and relly on
norton way to much for their humour, They seem extremly up themselves
with this whole golden ticket thing. I mean isn't is a bit
premature to be be ditching real radio for sattelite? sure in two
or three years it'll be big and it will eventually kill commercial
radio but ditching your careers for the "privalage" of going to a
netowrk that is really just starting up...esspecially when O&A
wouldn't be on the station if they hadn't messed up a couple of years
ago.

Why great shows like Ron and Fez and the
Hideout need to beg for a "golden ticket" from people like O&A I
really dont get. I mean correct me if I'm wrong but wern't
O&A Failing on XM? On the premium package and didn't attract
enough sign ups to cover themselves and got kicked back to the basic
package? Might be wrong but thats what I heard.

And
on that show from 09/08 ron states they have over 500.000 listeners
which I just dont believe. Theresless than 5million subscribers
to the entire XM network and O&A are claiming they get half a
million? Out of the thousands and thousands of XM shows they
think they get 13% of subscribers listening to them? No f-ing
way....

Anyway, I
just dont get them,, ron and Fez' show is far better
and I just hope they dont change their show too much now their on XM.

The radio shows that have been submitting thier material obviously:

1) See the potential in satellite
2) Are not happy where they are
3) See the invitation as an opportunity to try something new

I don't see anything wrong with that. As for building themselves up, you obviously don't get it. The elitism and superiority of it is really the joke. Everyone knows O&A are not the final word when it comes to who gets hired or not. All they can do is put thier support behind shows they feel would round out the listening experience on either thier channel or others they're planning in the future. I look at it as an invitation to shows with actual talent, with real comic chops, to win O&A's support in the hope of jumping on the bandwagon early.

O&A were not failing. As they explained on thier show, they have yearly renewals on thier contracts which XM could choose not to honor at any time. The premium was a test to see if they could actually do a show. The reasoning is pretty simple...why would you take a property that ISN'T doing well and make it MORE accessible to people to listen to?

Satellite is here...now....there is no 3 years from now....commercial radio will be dead soon, as will network television if they don't start putting out better entertainment.

As for you, why don't you stick with the show a little bit instead of dismissing it after a couple of shows? It takes a little bit to get involved and understand the jokes. It's not like Howard where you can just tune in and hear lesbians making out. It's got a little more substance to it. You obviously know a little more about the show than the average listener, as you're aware of the premium to general move, so I'm kinda guessing you're a hater and you're just looking to stir the pot a bit.

Either way, give em a shot. I've been listening for years, and it rarely gets boring to me. That's something, if anything is.

Opie and Anthony do a different, more ribald, shock jockish type of
show than Ron and Fez do, that is true. But, you have to
understand, Ron and Fez used to be just like Opie and Anthony back in
the day, and it was since WNEW that they began to really transform the
show from, oh boy, crazy shit happening here, tities in the studio, and
sniffing coke off cocks, into the unique, subtle blend of humor and
silliness that the show has become.

The four
of them, along with Scott Ferrall, had a tremendously awesome time at
WNEW, and it all blew up becuas of the St Pat's incident.
They all want to work with each other again, and want to jump at the
opportunity to do so, because, like Ron said, you never get the
opportunity in radio to work with people you really like twice in a
lifetime. They want to work with O and A again, and hva e fun
doing radio again. They spent the last year in hell, they deserve
to put the band back together.
Both of these shows are entertaining to me, and make it fun to be in my car. Though O&A aren't really my first choice of entertainment, they are starting to grow on me (I've heard that stem cell research, can eventually result in a salve for that growth). As much as I am selfish, I also want the best for the PEOPLE who entertain me. Ron, Fez, El Jefe, J Dubs, etc....

I'd also like some spinach and cream cheese dip, right now.

They're "saving" people so they can do the show THEY WANT instead of fearing their job everyday simply because they were trying to be mildly funny. Despite the fact that Satellite is where radio is going to be, the people on regular radio are basically censored to hell with fear.

XM doesn't have ratings, or definite numbers as to
who is listening to what, but they do have a very good idea of the
number of people listening to channels. I think they do listener
surveys, and they can also do some tracking through XM Radio
Online.
Ok...I'll throw this out there, in the spirit of this thread (without 89% less hate)...I know why I love R&F. I could write essays on it (errrr...yeah). Sort of similiar to DMM's "Why Do You Like D&M" thread from months ago (although, unlike him hating D&M, I don't hate O&A), I'd love to find out from the hard core O&A fans why they love their show.

Except from random clips played here and there, the AFRO Show last week, the recaps posted here, and this week's SFS3 anniversary show I caught, I really haven't heard the show since the move to XM.

Some have said how much better it is now, especially since they are no longer restricted. I've seen O&A haters "catch the virus" and become fans. I've also heard from people turned off by things here and there, but still unwilling to give them up.

I've been upfront about (as an outsider) being turned off by "The Pests." I wasn't a fan of them three years ago when they weren't such a major part of the show, and I really don't find the "AOTM" that funny or clever or original now. I find Norton funny, but not his parrots on messageboards - I swear to God, I never need to ever listen to the show to know what he said that day, because I know it will show upby someone else trying to be funny, using it as a punchline. I usually like inside the media / backstage stuff, but all of the talk of "golden tickets" and "fucko lists" AND Stern and Sirisu really has gotten old - and like i said, I don't even listen!

So, with all of that bugging me, what am I missing? What else is there? Is there enough for me to be able get over this hump and see whatever else is seeing? I have friends who love the show. Ron and Fez love them, and I respect their sense of humor. There are people older and more set in their ways, and teenagers, who all like their show. And now, believe it or now, since Ronnie and Fezzie now have O&A has an opening act act, I'd actually love to be convinced.*>

*>

I completely disagree.

(By the way, I too don't think OnA humor or talent as radio hosts (ie. the ability to just talk, without pauses and excessive laughing at basically unfunny items) is even close to the level of Ron and Fez.)

I like both show pretty equally. I like them for different reasons as well.

As far as a professional radio program format goes, nothing beats the type of program that Ron and Fez put together.

I like O&A because they have a completely different type program from other shows. In that it's irreverent, stupid at times, and off beat. I look at them at different types of shows that are similar in a lot of ways and then dramatically different in others.

I think the thing that people who dislike O&A misunderstand is that the type of show they do and the way it comes across is done that way on purpose. I honestly believe that if Opie and Anthony just wanted to do a straight up professional show that they both have the talent and ability to pull it off. They just enjoy doing it the way that they do.

Mike the Teacher makes a good point...there's a difference between standup comedy and shows...shows require commitment....you can't catch south park or family guy in the middle and just become a fan...it requires a context....you need to know cartman is an asshole or peter is a drunken fuck-up with a jackie gleason complex....same goes for O&A...
