Do you think that having a national audience will have a big impact on the show?

Will it make it better? More diverse? More interesting?

Or will it make it worse?

Well if as per a lot of the boards previous opinion that the DC callers sucked my guess is that there will be awhole lot worse callers then DC people.

I can hear it now: Hi im from Duluty Minnesota why is Fez gay

or

Hi im from Hickville, why is Ron always starving

I think good call screening will eliminate of those dumb calls. Overall a national audience will help them - it may take a little while - remember, no one likes them at first, but once they grow on the audience it'll do wonders for their career. Maybe even get them a replay at night.

I think it'll be fine, of course you'll hear the truckers again like you did when O&A first came on board. Though as their audience grows you will see more diverse callers. It's going to be good.

She's incredible!

And now that I've completely derailed my own thread, let me just say that I think it will be a different show once they go national and begin to build a broad fan base. It's great for Ron and Fez and I think it will add a lot to the show.

yeah. They started doing the same bits we already heard over and over
again for the rest of the country. And acting like it was new material.

R+F show has changed so much, so many times. The original
overnight was like Art Bell with punch lines. Lots of weird freaky
shit. The afternoon show had a very different feel to it. Kinda topical
with awful Radio Chick leftover callers. DC was the same with awful
overly serious DC callers. I thought their best work was 7-11 in New
York, with lots of booze, broads and a party feel (Ron-"Al, I want this
show to be like the old Dean Martin show!")

But any edition of Ron and Fez beats the shit out of most shows. I'll be listening.

Do you think that having a national audience will have a big impact on the show?

I got XM about a month ago and have been listenihng to O&A since... my observation...for a national show O&A seem very New York ethnocentric....I am surprised that they don't have their staff scouring local papers from around the country looking for more Non-New York stuff

National will be better, but of course the time slot will neuter most activities.
I'd say there's gonna be more truckers, but they were taking Northern Virgina calls for years, so no more than usual.

I always prefer local over national. I've always been a big fan of local television and local radio - even if local isn't MY local. Part of the fun of hearing The Hideout right now (for me) is to hear some of the local flavor of Orlando, someplace I really haven't been to. I think we're really missing something now where the only local television is the news - no local tv hosting movies or kid shows - local celebs that you can say you grow up with. With radio, once a show starts to go national, and tries to be everything to everybody, it looses something. I can't think of one local radio show that went national that were better after going national, etc. THAT ALL SAID, I do think R&F can break the mold, if (for not other reason) then that satellite, being the size it still is, kind of has a local feel to it, and they have the experience to avoid the pratfalls others have faced. They also have had syndication experience going back to The Ron and Ron days - they'll be just fine. It might end up just being a local (NY) show that just happens to be heard across the country, which is always fine with me.
