View Full Version : FX network - my new favorite
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Over There are my two new
favorite shows. I still can't bring myself to finish an episode of
Rescue Me but I'm trying.
No Longer Is the Sadness Apart of Me

I think it's awesome and everybody I know thinks it's awesome but
I've read that military types and their families don't like it. I think
certain scenario's might not be plausible. They have a seargent who had
to stay longer than he was scheduled and take on a bunch of new guys -
military guys tell me this would never happen. That sort of thing. Also
some people don't like a dramatisation of a war that is ongoing. They
think it's war profiteering. Also only one guy seems to be gung ho and
the rest are there for other reasons than patriotism. I don't think the
show has any kind of agenda but those types think that it
might be some anti war propoganda.

I know nothing
about the military so those types of things don't bother me. I think
it's really intense in a different kind of way. They're always bunkered
down and looking for the enemy. Lots of drama.

I'd love to know what others think of it.

It's alright. I have the same problems with it that I had with other "beloved" military films like Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan...the show looks great, and the technical and visual realism is fantastic, but all of it seems to come at the sacrifice of the characters. They're just...there. There's little to distinguish them outside of a few broad, stereotypical mannerisms, and they end up just not being very interesting at all and, pun intended, come across as little more than cannon fodder.

It's not a BAD show, and it definitely has some potential, but right now it doesn't grab me much at all. Personally, it strikes me like most FX shows...a lot of flash and style, but nothing much underneath the surface.

I've been seeing the show how it should be viewed. Watching all the combat and skipping through the "back home" garbage from computer files. That takes it down to about a half hour show with no commercials.

Love this show.

I saw a few episodes of Nip/Tuck and I thought it was pretty good. Sometimes its kinda bland, but its still a good show overall.

Tell me you got the fucking golf shoes!
I just watched the latest episode of "It's always sunny." That's like 4
episodes and I laughed through every one. This can only mean one thing.
It will soon be cancelled.

It's alright. There is some good character development in SPR, but at the expense, in my opinion, of leaving out so much more that happened that day, and with BHD, again, maybe not enough time, especially since in that one events are happening so fast, well... I agree, in war movies, except for a few, the stars are there to either be alive or dead at the end of the movie.

Hence, the two greatest war movies ever, in my opinion, have a sum total of exactly zero battle scenes in them:

The Best Years of Our Lives [many rate it above Cane and GWTW as greatest movie ever], and

On The Beach

Best Years, especially, if you havent seen this, it's a post WW2 film, and deals exactly with dealing with coming back from WW2, and it won just frigging everything at the Oscars, including Best Picture.

Umm... FX? is that a TV channel?

Soooary

A TV series actually should be the perfect place for an active combat military/war story.

Just look at Band of Brothers.

I love FX! Rescue Me is one of my favorites, and I love Nip Tuck and can't wait for the new season to start. That show is so over the top, it's fantastic. That it's about plastic surgeons turn some people off but it's not what you think a show about plastic surgery would be at all.
Over There is pretty good too. The character development needs some work but the war footage is great. Fantastic channel. Rivals HBO as far as I'm concerned.
