OK, I put together a computer for my bandmates Bob and Jenn made from any old computer my father's company was getting rid of, Ebay parts and a lot of help from my friend Grim Sanity. One of the last things it needed, and I can't believe I didn't see this, but it was without a sound card. The comp was so old it didn't even have one of those integrated ones off the motherboard.

So I got one new and cheap off Ebay again, but it didn't have that little wire that goes from the CD drive to the sound card included. I believe it lets you play CDs through the speakers like a regular CD player. Otherwise you can only play sound files.

My question is 1st, am I mistaken about what that wire is and if I really even need it in the comp?

2nd, what the fuck is it even called and where can I get one? I've been searching for it for days now. It's gotta be dirt cheap and easy to get and I'm just not finding it.

As always, a link directly to a cheap one would be appreciated. That is, if you can figure out the tools because they're so wicked awesome.

That wire is only needed if you want to use the
headphone jack on your CD drive. If you don't want to use it or your CD
drive doesn't have a headphone jack it's useless.

Really? Oh, well then. Thanks man. I guess that pretty much ends this one up nicely.

Still though, anyone know what this wire is called, and where I could get one? Just out of curiosity.

That wire is considered deprecated with the latest operating systems (XP, Linux, etc.). You don't need it at all.

I guess it's that one, I really don't know what the other side of it looks like. I only remember seeing one on my old computer, and just thinking of it for my friend's newer one I just put together. I didn't know it had become obsolete already, but that's cool with me.

And look at Reef quietly creeping over 10K posts. Nice job, you filthy post whore. How many of those contain the link I am a whore in them?
