Yes, friends, we know we are being gouged when the oil companies increase the price of gas 50 and 60 and 70 cents a gallon on gas from the same tanker-load.A corporation's number one responsibility is to it's stockholders, and I say we hit-em where it hurts with a targeted boycott.What we do is COUNTERGOUGE!By this I mean we wait until the corporate earnings statements come out and the oil company with the greatest percentage increase in profits gets COUNTERGOUGED!Of course they are in collusion, but by targeting that one company, we have a focused effort, plus maybe the other companies will get the message if this thing gets big enough.Spread the word, COUNTERGOUGE!

yeah man!!! let's all not buy gas on the same day and show the man, man!!! aside from firebombing stations, there is no real way to stick it to 'em.  these companies are so incestious and homogenious, it's imposible. boycotts won't work.

It would be hard for me to boycott gas, since I deliver pizza. The
only thing I tend to do, when it comes to high gas prices is (when I
find a station that is cheaper than all the others) I also buy stuff in
their store.By the way...  one of my customers tonight,
made small talk about how much gas costs... and then tipped me 48
cents.  What an ASS!!!

Two DELTA gas stations in my town were gouging.  I handed the
attendants at each station a copy of the complaint I submitted to the
Department of Energy at http://gaswatch.energy.gov/.  The
complaint form listed there exact street address and phone
number.  Plus I took digital pictures of their pumps clearly
showing that the pumps were located at their station.Gas is 20 cents cheaper at these stations now.   Boycott Mobil and Exxon; these whores have the highest prices.  There
was virtually no one on the road on Route 17 and 46 in NJ for the
better part of the day.  If we cut back on driving, the whores
will lower the price.

i tried to explain this earlier: there are only a few distributers of petro, so targetting mobile won't do much, if anything.  there are plenty more facilities mobile distrinutes to, therefore, boycotting mobile is futile.and try to map out their distribution, practically inpossible.as for the folks who are selling the cheapest gas, i know in my town, i've been told by an attendent friend that the gas is watered down.  you won't notice in the summer too much, but come winter, you're lines will freeze.

The worst part of the price of oil/gas is that only a small
percentage goes back into our own economy.  A drum/barrel of oil
costs OPEC only 5 dollars to produce.  They charge $70--and $65
goes in the pockets of those Jesus-haters.  And then 44
cents of the cost per gallon is taxes: 26 state tax; 18 cents
federal.  And some how the US oil companies still make $5 million
profit after tax--that's right profit, not revenue.  No US oil
company has built a new refinery in the US in over 30 years.Right
now the biggest threat to the US economy is the US consumer. If we cut
back too much on spending we'll actually screw ourselves.  Panic
and we'll screw ourselves.  Spend--but spend wisely. Did
he Federal Reserve really help us when they lowered interest
rates?  A lot of people brought houses that they couldn't really
afford.Drive less and screw the oil companies out of at least some money.  Use the Law of Supply & Demand against them.  And by the way, thanks Saudi Arabia for the offer of "dirty" crude which is too expensive to refine to make into gasoline. 
Cut costs on junk you don't need.  I revised my cable service down to basic: I save $38 bucks a month.

WAY TO GO, INFOSTUD!Nice move, complaining in a constructive way.Monsterone, I read what you posted, but I don't think it really addressed the fact that the bastards reported record profits last quarter, and a lot of the increases we are paying now are pure greed, and not supply and demand.And no matter what the distribution layout is, if this became real big, nationwide, and a sixeable chunk of the gas-buying public boycotted the greediest bastard this quarter, it would hit them in the only way they care.A corporation's first responsibility is to turn a profit for it's stockholders, and if being the greediest bastard turns your company into a target for a massive boycott, then you might try to not come in #1.Seems to me, this could really catch on, because it targets the greediest bastard and once it got to rolling, I think it'd be hard to stop.

Of course majority of the oil companies profits are greed generated--and not supply and demand driven.The
price of oil dropped sharply in London; it's down to $64.84/barrel on 9/5/2005 as
supply fears have eased. The prices will most likely go down at
least some. Americans are outraged!!! Even before Katirna,
gasoline prices were too high. The gasoline retailers and oil
companies breached the tolerance level price of $3.00/gallon.Everyone
I talk with says: "I'm driving just to work and home and that's
it." At $3.39/gallon, everyone will and have begun to drive less.
These
"sudden" measures that OPEC is willing to take to ease prices and
supply problem are amazing. These bastards could have been
instituting these measures two years ago. And damn it, it's
time we learn that the planet will eventually run out of oil from
geological reality--we use it all up. We have to subside the US scientific community to develop nonsense, cost-effective alternatives. And
lastly, it's our country and our way of life, GIVE A DAMN!!! Voice
your outrage!!!! E-mail your elected officials. Boycott
companies whose goods or services are too high.Some gasoline stations in
my town are still too high. Here's what I did with about an hour of my free time:I made mapquested directions from
each of these gas stations to the locations of cheaper gas stations in
town. I handed these directions out to people while they were in
line at the expensive gas stations. Most of the people got out of
the line and drove to the cheaper gas stations.

Infostud has it right:I walked into gas stations and informed the owner i was referring his gas station to the states attorney general for price gouging.  One station offered me a free fill-up to not report them.They know they are being shady and when confronted they back down

<a href="http://198.6.95.31/" target="_self">here's a source to tell if you're getting gouged.</a>  and it's not countergouging if you're being a smart consumer.  i have not witnessed lines at the pumps, so no one is really getting gouged b/c there is not a crisis.  sending ppl to a cheaper gas station still puts money in the pockets of shell, chevron and exxon mobil.if you really want to stick it to the man, ride a bike, take a bus, or walk.  help out others and order take out, call a cab... remember that ppl that drive for a living the rise in prices the most.  i'm almost sure their employers haven't changed their milage rate yet.

for the great countergouging information. It's a great weapon to use
against the "gougers."  I like handing them a copy of the complaint I submitted to the Department of Energy at http://gaswatch.energy.gov/ about their stations.I'm
going to use my graphic arts skills to reproduce that chart and the
Department of Energy complaint form. I'll make 500 copies at STAPLES to
help the economy and then put these information bulletins under the
windshield wipers of cars at the busiest malls in NJ. 
Tonight I saw a truly beautiful thing--gas station
attendants/retailers sitting in chairs at their gas stations without a
single customer. I always used to see at least one or two cars at an
open gas station. 
The DELTA gas stations that were gouging in my town had the
price up to $3.39/gallon before I showed them the complaint form I
submitted.  Gas within 30 mins went down to $3.19/gallon. 
It's down to $3.17 now.  And it's a beautiful thing to see them
just sitting there without customers.Even before Katirna,
gasoline was too damn high.  The oil companies are fabricating
these excuses.  The state and federal government should charge a
flat tax on the gasoline sell versus a per gallon tax. In general, 44
cent/gallon goes to these taxes. The US oil companies should be
truer Americans and lower their profit margins a bit and they still
will make plenty of money for their stock holders.  Some oil
companies make as much as $5 million/day profit.  How about
cutting that to $4 million/day profit and help America's overall
economy.

The link below lists the phone numbers of municipal and county Offices of Weights and Measures. 
From the below article:"More than 100 violations were found at 400 gas stations in the past
week, the most common of which were prices being raised more than once
every 24 hours, and stations showing different prices at the pump
compared to their posted prices, officials said."

On Friday I filled up at a station that had gas at $3.39/gallon.  I got 8 gallons.But when I got my receipt, it said something like 13 gallons at $2.39/gallon.  WTF is up with that?

Katrina struck"What the hell did these rocket scientists expect?  Gasoline costs twice as much as two years ago.  I've effectively lost $80-100 of disposable income.  Hence, no "extra money" to buy DVDs, CDs, magazines, Nikes or whatever.  Now, with gasoline this high, people simply don't have the money to spend.

Yesterday, I finally bought my first gallon of gasoline for under $3; it was $2.99. Everyone:OPEC acknowledged that prices are driving down
demand. Oil closed today at $63/barrel. The OPEC bastards used
the Law of Supply & Demand against us to drive up the price.
Screw them--we're using it against them now. Another several
weeks of this and oil will be below $60/barrel. It's after Labor
Day and guess what driving goes way down. Let's drive the price back down
to where it really should be for gasoline: $1.65/gallon.And
let's not stop there. Contact your state officials demand a flat
tax on gasoline purchases--not a per gallon tax. Demand the same
from the federal government.Demand that US automakers make more
fuel efficient vehicles!!! I bought a new car this year based
solely on its fuel efficiency--a Honda. Screw Detroit you want us
to buy your cars make them more fuel efficient!!! And put some
craftsmanship in your vehicles. They should last at least 10-15
years with proper maintenance--and without all the damn recalls.Demand that US Oil companies build more refineries. A new refinery has NOT be built in 30 years.We need to be funding/subsiding the US scientific community to find a new source of renewable fuel.We
liberated Iraq from Saddam Hussein; therefore, US oil companies should
developing those oil fields. Screw France and Russia who claim
they had contract/franchise rights to develop those oil fields.
They probably did--why the hell do you think they didn't support the
USA's efforts in Iraq. All kinds of illegals deals were made between

Looks like the buzz is out of this thread.  But what the hell:From MSNBC: WASHINGTON - The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is investigating whether gasoline price profiteering has occurred and if oil companies have constrained refinery capacity to manipulate fuel prices, an agency official said Wednesday. Get ready for $3 per gallon!!!  It will hit that mark LONG before Memorial Day.  Gas stations are now raising their prices by 6 cents a gallon per week.  The oil companies tell us we have to accept it.  The government is bascially ignoring the problem.  The oil companies want us to conserve gas for one simple reason; they want to have something to sell us.

They want us to conserve gas so their upfront costs don't rise.  They'll still hose us.  Worldwide demand is above the supply levels set by the cartels.  Increased demand on our end will only increase the price that the oil companies have to pay the cartels.

it's a complex issue to be sure and a multi-layered issue!!!  OPEC has absolutely no reason to expand their pumping infrastructure since this would increase supply and drive down prices.  US Government Regulations makes domestic oil and natural gas exploration difficult at best.  A new refinery has NOT been built in the US in 30 years. The USA biggest refinery Conaco-Phillips is retro-fixing their infrastructure and has been operating at only 60 percent of refining capacity.  Much of our domestic supply is in the hurricane-stricken Gulf Coast.  We've got plenty of coal--but no environmental safe way to burn it.  US Automakers basically refuse to build gas-efficient vehicles. Additional sources of oil probably do exist, but they are probably in the middle of the ocean; miles below the ocean surface and then miles below the ocean floor itself Now add in all the geo-political related stuff and it gets even worst.  Iraq oil production is below 1 millions per day.  Back to OPEC, they are not expanding their pumping infrastructure.  Oil trading on the stock exchange is extremely speculative; if the oil traders think it's going to rain lightly prices go up; they over-react to everything.Maybe it's going to take mass rioting by consumers before the US government and oil companies get the wake up call.  If they started tomorrow and invested heavily, it would still take at least a decade before an affordable, renewable energy alternative could be developed.  Damn it, we should have learned our lesson from the 1973/74 Oil Embargo.  Those gas lines and inflation-adjusted prices are our future.
