You see, all you read about it in books is the history but nobody knows about the present day. Are they still here, do they still work? Or is it dead like most of America's history? <p>The &quot;Godfather/Goodfellas&quot; Italian mafia of legend is pretty much gone.&nbsp; It still exists, but in a very weakened state, and their tentacles don't reach nearly as far as they used to.&nbsp; One need only look at the current state and size of Little Italy to know that.</p><p>The Italians have been beaten down by the government, but it also has a lot to do with the rise in power of other groups who are today what the mafia used to be.&nbsp; The Russians, the Chinese, and the Colombians to name a few,&nbsp;are probably more brutal and deadly than the Italians ever were, and it's&nbsp;ridiculous that all of the politicians and feds who go after &quot;organized crime&quot; seem to totally ignore them.</p>

<p>There were two guys in Cleveland once and they decided to start their own mafia. This was their plan: Go to every Don and other mafia member and extort them. As soon as they didn't pay they would be killed. One guy was the brains and the other was the 'tough&nbsp;guy.' This is what happened: They went to a mafia operated bar and said: We are tough guys and you'd better pay up or we'll bump you off.(kill you)&nbsp;They were kicked out and beaten up. After this unfortunate event&nbsp;they went on to an easier target and did it all over again, only this time some real tough guys showed up and killed the duo. They were found with about 15 bulletholes each and they were hanged from a lamppost. A bit later everybody went in to hiding because someone told they were gangsters from a huge family. So at first they were small time losers and after their death they became feared criminals.</p><p>So, you're right. They never said that they were with&nbsp;the mafia and suddenly&nbsp;everybody thought they were. Kinda stupid...</p>
