Van Halen also has a nice one in 'Hear About It Later' off of Fair Warning. Doesn't begin the song, but they break down to a hook after the second [first?] chorus.

2nd chorus, during the "Brown" rhythm, then the finger-tap.

so does that mean that it was "THE ORANGE BOWL OF FAILURE?" Staples See The Cruising Vessel Check out silentpix.com.

Hottub, in my opinion Eddie was never beter then Fair Warning, from the Mean Streets intro to the slide guitar on Dirty Movies to Sinner's Swing, never a Browner sound, and just fucking dazzling guitar abuse.

Women and Children First gets a nod for the Live sound for a studio abum, making up for the horrificlly overproduced 2 album, but man FW shows how ahead of the curve Eddie could get, the wannabes lining up to get 'that' sound.

To be honest, Fair Warning AND "Women and Children First" Are fucking LEGEND.

Some nights, when I can't fall asleep (like tonight) I will lay down and "play" Fair Warning in my head. I honest to God know that album note for note!

The intro on Mean Streets. forget about it! The ballsy Bluesy Hear About it Later and Push comes to shove?

Ted Templeton ROCKED those albums.

As a quick aside, after "playing" (too lazy to dig up the CD), I'm thinking the cowbell you mentioned is a Block, not a bell. Could be wrong. If you really play it, feel free to correct me.

Another opinion. "Brown" was perfected on "5150" - "Summer Nights"!! "Play" that opening riff!

so does that mean that it was "THE ORANGE BOWL OF FAILURE?" Staples See The Cruising Vessel Check out silentpix.com.

If you really play it, feel free to correct me.

=

Yer probably right, I havent listened in quite a while; what makes it stand out is, as you know, how everything drops out right before it, so it's really prominent.

Saw them live Diver Down tour [amazing] and 1984 tour the Dave schtick was getting bad]. 5150 is about as far I go into the VHagar era; its very good, some of the ideas and broad strokes were from the old days if memory serves, but alex's drums are a bit too 'synthetic' ie. he's using a lot of electronic percussion on the toms, and the kicks sound almost triggered, compare the Hot For Teacher vs. Get Up drum kick intros, anyway there ya go...

Just because it has the SNL sketch doesn't mean it's the greatest cowbell song of all time. Mississippi Queen has what almost has to be called a cowbell 'solo' in the middle of the song--parts where all the other instruments drop out and the cowbell is the only thing playing.

It's the first song I thought of when I saw this topic title.
