View Full Version : Global Warming . . . . on Mars?

Link (http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/mgs/newsroom/20050920a.html)

Boulders tumbling down a Martian slope left tracks that weren't there
two years ago. New impact craters formed since the 1970s suggest
changes to age-estimating models. And for three Mars summers in a row,
deposits of frozen carbon dioxide near Mars' south pole have shrunk
from the previous year's size, suggesting a climate change in progress.

If more data comes in like this, it
will completely disprove the whole "Global Warming" being caused by
human activity. And will prove what I always suspected. If its getting
hotter, check your thermostat. In this case, the heat source is the
Sun. And the Socialists and Commies will just have to find another
bullshit theory to hide behind.
I don't want my air to kill me, I don't want to drink mercury, I don't want to eat shit and I don't want crap blowing around in my streets. I want clean pakrs to go enjoy the fall. Is that so much to ask? Can they make appliances that aren't "throw away" so you go through 10 TVs in a decade? Can we have less wrapping on stuff? Come on.

Mars is a dead (maybe) planet on the surface. Earth's surface, air, and water is in constant change - wiping itself clean every millenia. Earth does give itself it's own global warming - it has many, many times before. It is happening again (it has nothing to do with the sun and it takes thousands of years) and will continue whether we are here or not.

BUT, we are not helping ourselves, now. The more we change our polluting ways, the better we have a chance on longivity for us and our decendants. As for the natural global warming, maybe we'll adapt, maybe we won't. There's nothing we can do about that.

We are just a species that will inhabit this planet most likely for a short period of time compared to the planet's age. We might as well try and make the best of it.

Furtherman is right. It's the supreme arrogance of man that we continually declare that "WE will destroy the PLANET," when in all likelihood that planet will outlast our dot on the timeline, and then some. The mentality SHOULD be, "hey, let's try to not speed up destroying ourselves."

might want to read the article before you guys dismiss it. But then
again, environmentalism has always had a "Religious" faith-like
zealotry to it, despite its obvious flaws. So I wouldn't expect anyone
to actually read something that might shake their "faith". I have
always had serious doubts about the connection between human activity
and Global Warming. Planet Earth is not a fucking fish tank, which is
where these theories were produced. And the 3/4 of the earth surrounded
by oceans abosrb more Co2 than we could ever hope to produce. So when
you can factor out the HEAT SOURCE, call me.

And Moe, we all want a clean environment. And if someone could
link burning fossil fuels to rising cancer rates, respiratory diseases,
etc, then I think you have a better case to make. But you also
have to weigh that against the widespread benefits of cheap, abundant
power and what it means to our standard of living and economy. Remember
the 70's? The Misery index? NYC in Bankruptcy? I do. So like most
things in life, its a trade off, one most Americans simply aren't
willing to make. And for us to make huge changes in our economic system
(which is what many environmentalists want, and Kyoto calls for) before
all the facts are in, is utter foolishness.

quote: "no country is

Maybe its a sign that Mars is thawing from its Ice Age (though a few years is hardly a thaw).

The composition of the Earthian and martian atmospheres are too different to compare. Global Warming is caused by the disintergration of a part of Earth's atmosphere. mars could only be compared if its atmosphere was the same.

One More: Global warming is only a symptom. The cause is the breakdown of the earth's atmosphere due to pollutants. Other symptoms are: extremes in dangerous weather, loss of coastline, and increased incidence of skin cancer (from exposure to unfiltered radiation).

so the space between planets is therefore hot due to the heat of the
sun? wha? call me crazy, but I thought it was the individual atmosphere
of the planets that absorbed the light and the heat of the sun.

Plus,
the article says that dust in the atmosphere kicked up by meteor impact
is what's causing climate changes, we don't get that much here anymore,
last I checked.

Using this evidence to "disprove" either global
warming or man's practice of "bleeding the earth dry" contributing to
global warming is a stretch Reed Richards would be proud of...
