In honor of R & F's guests from IFC earlier this week:

What are some of your favorite (fairly) recent Indy flicks?

I need to add some new ones to my Netflix DVD list.

It's not so recent but the Station Agent was a pretty good one.

Indy films just seem like college sports. No one's a pro and they're working with alot less money. So everything is cheesy and boring.

I like Drugstore Cowboy. It's very independent and really filmish.

I am a big fan of documents. When you come to grips that reality TV is not reality, Netflix some of these movies and you will really be impressed with people.

Spellbound - Story of about 6-7 families and how they are working towards getting their child to make to to the national spelling bee. The families are incredibly interesting.

American Movie - Story of a midwestern lazyass who has been spending many years and thousands of dollars trying to get his first feature film made. The people in this movie are so out there you would think that they are just good character actors are actually real freakin peole.

Born into Brothels - This actually may not be released yet but is a movie of a photographer in Inida who is documenting the lives of children faced with the truth that prostitution is the only way the family can make money. The motheres currently MUST do it and the daughters are taught to eventually be ready to do it. The photographer attempts to help many of these children by setting up classes and helping them get an education.

Gotta also mention my favorite movie; STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN. An excellent documentary about the under-appreciated musicians behind the motown sound

There looks like there's going to be a similar type of documentary coming out that I can't wait to see.

My buddy forwarded me a link about a new documentary called "The Wrecking Crew (http://www.wreckingcrewfilm.com/)"-- a film anbout the studio musicians that played on countless sessions in the 60s, most notably the Phil Spector and Beach Boys recordings.

I'm bummed because they're not showing it in too many places. Here's the screening schedule (http://www.wreckingcrewfilm.com/upcoming.html). The next closest screening will be:

IFC CENTER
Screening: Friday, August 1st
323 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10014

Click on the links above for more info and here's the trailer:

not sure if this is Indy, I think it is, but this weekend I watched A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. It was really good, pretty much everyone in the movie gave a great performance.

Would Foreign count as Independent?

If so, I've seen two great French films in the past couple of weeks, called Roman de Gare and Tell No One. Both are suspense thrillers. Check them out.

Box of Moonlight was on yesterday, I enjoy that one. It's john turturro and sam rockwell about a tight ass guy spending a weekend with a wild, younger guy.

They shoot horses, dont they?

In Bruges was just in theaters, and I liked it.

I really like this movie, too! Every time it comes on I watch it. Sam Rockwell rules.
