<p>Could'nt think of a funnier title for this but its kind of important.</p><p>The Broadcast flag is an attempt by the entainment industy to really lockdown end user rights on all digital media</p><p>from WIKI</p><p>A <strong>broadcast flag</strong> is a set of status <a title="Bit" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/Bit">bits</a> (or "<a title="Flag (computing)" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/Flag_(computing)">flags</a>") sent in the data stream of a <a title="Digital television" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/Digital_television">digital television</a> program that indicates whether or not it can be recorded, or if there are any restrictions on recorded content. Possible restrictions include inability to save a digital program to a <a title="Hard disk" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/Hard_disk">hard disk</a> or other non-volatile storage, inability to make secondary copies of recorded content (in order to share or archive), forceful reduction of quality when recording (such as reducing <a title="High-definition television" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/High-definition_television">high-definition</a> video to the resolution of standard TVs), and inability to skip over <a title="Advertisement" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/Advertisement">commercials</a>. In the <a title="United States" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/United_States">United States</a>, new television receivers using the <a title="ATSC" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/ATSC">ATSC</a> standard were supposed to incorporate this functionality by <a title="July 1" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/July_1">July 1</a>, <a title="2005" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/2005">2005</a>, but a federal court struck down the <a title="Federal Communications Commission" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/Federal_Communications_Commission">Federal Communications Commission</a>'s rule to this effect on <a title="May 6" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/May_6">May 6</a>. The stated intention of the broadcast flag was to prevent <a title="Copyright infringement" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/Copyright_infringement">copyright infringement</a>, but many have asserted that broadcast flags interfere with the <a title="Fair use" href="http://www.ronfez.net/wiki/Fair_use">fair use</a> rights of the viewing public.</p><p>This was killed earlier this year when the courts decided that the FCC had no jurisdiction in this matter, And so the Entertainment lobby went out and found 20 congress people to bring it up again, Anyone with some tech savy thinks this is a bad idea and I tend to agree.</p><p> Since I know lots of Board members are from the NY- NJ area why not give them a call or drop a email to let them know what you think thanks in advance</p><p>The 20 are</p><p><a href="http://johnshadegg.house.gov/contact/">John Shadegg</a>, R-AZ, (202) 225-3361 <br /><a href="http://www.house.gov/bono/contact.html">Mary Bono</a>, R-CA, (202) 225-5330 <br /><a href="http://www.radanovich.house.gov/Contact.htm">George Radanovich</a>, R-CA, (202) 225-4540 <br /><a href="http://www.house.gov/shimkus/contact.shtml">John Shimkus</a>, R-IL (202) 225-5271 <br /><a href="http://www.house.gov/rush/contact.shtml">Bobby Rush</a>, D-IL, (202) 225-4372 <br /><a href="http://whitfield.house.gov/contact/">Ed Whitfield</a>, R-KY, (202) 225-3115 <br /><a href="http://wynn.house.gov/feedback.cfm?campaign=wynn"><strong><font size="2">Albert Wynn</font></strong></a><font size="2"><strong>, D-MD, (202) 225-8699</strong> <br /></font><a href="http://www.house.gov/pickering/Form.htm">Charles Pickering</a>, R-MS, (202) 225-5031 <br /><a href="http://leeterry.house.gov/staff_contact.cfm">Lee Terry</a>, R-NE, (202) 225-4155 <br /><a href="http://www.house.gov/bass/writeorvisit.html"><font size="1">Charles Bass</font></a><font size="1">, R-NH, (202) 225-5206</font> <br /><a href="http://www.house.gov/ferguson/get_address2.shtml"><font size="2"><strong>Mike Ferguson</strong></font></a><font size="2"><strong>, R-NJ, (202) 225-5361 <br /></strong></font><a href="http://www.house.gov/pallone/washingto
