I'm coordinating a large meeting for my company and arrived at the hotel today with 4 heavy packages that I needed to carry up to the meeting room (5th floor). The bellhop carried them for me and put them in the room, I only had a dollar bill or a 5, so I gave him $5. How much are you supposed to tip for that? I'm expensing it out but don't want my boss to question why I tipped $5 if thats too high.

$1 per bag they're easy bags to carry, $2 if they're heavy. Though usually I end up just giving a $5 even if I have just a couple of bags that are pretty light.

5 is fair, for 4 heavy packages a little more would probably have been better, whats a couple of bucks when you think of how much money we waste througout the year, why even expense it, charge it to the game, your work paid for your trip so just forget out expensing the tip

You can't be serious pmouth? Why should I pay out of my own pocket for something I'm doing for work? Perhaps we should pay for our work office rents as well huh? If I did as you say, I'd be out about 200 bucks a month. Thankfully my company fully understands the expense.

Missy, I'm in that situation many times over with my business as well and your amount is fine. Most of the people are right on with the amounts, but it really comes down to the individual. In fact, last night I picked up some heavy ass storage pieces for my garage and two kids from helped me load it in my car. Three pieces and it only took about 5 minutes since I have a truck. I gave each kid $10 and thanked them. They both looked shocked and thanked me. I asked and they said they never get a dime from people. So all in all I think as long as it's reasonable, most of the time people are happy. Unfortunately most people just walk away or leave.

If they load it onto a dolly and roll it to the room, a buck a bag, or a flat 5. Usually I help them load the dolly anyway. That's all my broke ass can afford.

I almost never go away on business, so it is usually for pleasure, and out of my pocket.

And Spoon. As for the kids on the block helping you, giving them a few bucks for the effort is genius. That will be paid back to you in Spades!

But I would have gone more like $5. In the future, they will expect $10 for just holding the door open for you. Just speaking from experience.
so does that mean that it was "THE ORANGE BOWL OF FAILURE?"
