<br />heathcliff (or however its spelled) did ok.<p> </p><p>as did the peanuts based stuff. i just lost the others i had in my brain while signing in.</p><p>anyway,
it could go either way. the simpsons went well and while not based on a
strip, the creator was a strip writer/artist. it could work. who
knows...i dont even really know the strip all that well.</p><p> </p>
I think it will do good. Those other strips seemed
really suited to three panel comic strips, while Boondocks deals with a
lot of issues that seem to be easily expanded into longer episodes.
Boondocks also has a lot of multi comic storylines while those others
seems to stick to one and done joke strips. That's just my opinion, if
they have a decent writing staff I think it will do fine. But Adult
Swim has been extremely spotty with its new shows lately. Stroker and
Hoop I really like, I even like 12 oz. mouse even though I know the
vast majority of people will need to be sky high to like it. Tom Goes
to the Mayor is absolute garbage, and Squidbillies seems
shaky.<br />

My biggest gripe with this series is that it's never actually seemed funny to me. Magruder is a good writer and makes great points, and has interesting characters and storylines, blah-blah-blah...but at the end of the day, a comic strip is supposed to be funny on SOME level. As social commentary, it's fantastic...as a COMIC strip, it fails miserably.

Some Super Milk Chan episodes are really funny, and then some are confusing as hell. Very hit or miss.
I think boondocks look interesting. Only the premire will tell.
I also agree on Tom Goes to the Mayor, it's like the same gag over and over again. Although I did like the episode with the theme park that the Mayor burned down.

<p>Adult Swim was pushing that show to the moon, and well it crashed.</p><p>TGTTM had cameos from Tenacious D along with other comics/actors that are somewhat known for doing stupid shit or something...even they couldnt save that show.</p><p> </p><p>And wtf happened to SeaLab2021? it went to complete shit after the voice of Cpt. <p>I'd like to present, "Every Boondocks Comic Ever."</p><p><img height="191" src="http://img319.imageshack.us/img319/116/boondocks4gd.jpg" width="600" border="0" /></p><p>Seriously, that's his whole act. Comics in general suck nowadays, though, the only ones that I really enjoy nowadays are Get Fuzzy and Pearls Before Swine.</p><p>Oddly enough, though, as much as I'm sure that the new cartoon show will be filled with annoying social commentary, I think it has the potential to be a decent show. Better than a lot of the recent entries. Tom Goes To the Mayor is one of the most godawful pieces of shit I've ever seen, Squidbillies is rather lackluster at best, and 12 Oz. Mouse makes me question whether it was created in a conscious effort to make the most nonsensical, retarded cartoon possible. They need to make new episodes of the Venture Bros. and quick.</p>
<p>I just saw the pilot and it was good. Not
mind-blowingly good, but enjoyable. Started slow, but the second half
really picked up. The animation was bad, very choppy. Disappointing
because the art and character models are very good. This show could
have been very good looking. I really liked the Huey angle in the
second half. And the black security guard as well. They definitely made
a transition from the comic, it felt different. There wasn't much
overtly political stuff in this episode. And what there was wasn't
addresses in any sort of serious tone. So that's my immediate reaction.
Better than most of the stuff that Adult Swim has come up with.
Definite potential.<br />

Again...nothing groundbreaking. I'm still waiting for the Mallard Fillmore strip to be picked up by Adult Swim.
<img src="http://scripts.cgispy.com/image.cgi?u=tall_james">
<p>I'm actually with Se7en on this one. Look, I know Bush sucks,
but I don't need to read about it in my comic strips ad nauseum.
Even the apolitical ones aren't funny. Mallard Fillmore is worse,
though.</p><p>I'd never read Pearls before Swine, but found it funny. I also like Overboard.<br />

Bush wasn't mentioned once in the pilot. I was
surprised at the lack of politics. Just some social commentary and some
Reagan slams, and if you saw the commercial, you've pretty much seen it
all.<br />

I think the comic is hillarious. Most of the funny ones don't have much at all to do w/ politics. The funniest ones usually deal with how out of touch the grandpa is, or when the older kid tries to be smart and tough, and ends up looking like a fool.

I've decided that the best thing about this show is probably the opening title sequence, which, and I don't know if this is conscuous or not (though I hope it is), seems to be a parody of Samurai Champloo's title sequence.
For a show that's supposedly so big, this show has absolute shit production values. Choppy, heavily repeated animation and crap voice acting. I'm rapidly losing interest.<br />

<p>If anyone is still interested in this show I think you should give next week's episode a try. The writing has greatly improved since the show started. Unfortunately the animation and voice acting hasn't all that much, but I've been finding myself tuning in more often, and I think the episode airing tomorrow is the best one I've seen yet, and has the potential to bring the show to the next level.</p><p>And if you are wondering, no Bush/Republican/conservative bashing in this episode, and just some light satire of black culture in a sub plot and a character driven, surprisingly touching main plot. </p>

Live, thread, LIVE!!!
I'm definitely not a fan of the comic strip.
I have, however, come to love the cartoon. In the spirit of that, I present to you all links to the kindasortamaybe "banned" episodes from the 2nd season that go after BET. Cartoon Network says there was no pressure to pull them, but that was the scuttlebutt, and they never aired when they were supposed to, and as of now have only aired on the Canadian version of CN.

Yeah, I didn't know this thread was even here.
I think Aaron MacGruder is an absolute genius. The comic and the show are both gold. There both WAY underappreciated right now, but in 25-30 years, everyone will look back and see how brilliant it is.

Correct if I'm wrong, but is that Turk from Scrubs doing the voice of the Reggie Hudlin parody? It sounds like him, just pitched higher and sped up a bit, and he's done voices on the show before.
