That's pretty damn surpising! I thought she was still down in New Orleans (at least up until Katrina), being a blood sucking devil woman.

Interview with the Vampire is the only one I know, and I only know it from the movie.

looking at the picture of her sitting there all i can think of is:

They're probably watching me. Well, let them. Let them see what kind of a person I am. I'm not even going to swat that fly. I hope they are watching... they'll see. They'll see and they'll know, and they'll say, "Why, she wouldn't even harm a fly..."

Anne Rice lost her mind YEEEEEEARS ago. All you have to do is see any interview with her since 1990, and it's clear she is a loon. She's as crazy as Maya Angelou.

"Interview with a Vampire" was the only really good book she wrote, which was her first. It took her years before she did her second one (The Vampire Lestat), and while all right, it was no where as good as the first. After that one she became a prolific machine, with each book getting worse and worse and worse - almost one a year, almost all of them bore-ass first drafts that would have been rejected had anyone else written them. Aside from vampires, she also wrote about mummies and witches, and the first books in those series were just all right, but the others that followed were garabge most foul.

The difference in quality between her first book and the rest of her books (including the soft core porn she wrote under other names) is so dramatic, I've always had a conspiracy theory that she never actually wrote that first one.

I'm actually intrigued by the way the she describes this novel. i found the vampire chronicles to be self-indulgent and melodramatic (except for Memnoch the Devil, which was very good), but I'm all for alternate versions of the Jesus story.

As for her returning to Catholicism--good for her. It shouldn't change her writing style too much. i always assumed by the way her characters writhe in guilt that she was catholic anyway

Her books have been garbage for a good 10 years. I liked the
first 3 vampire books, The Mummy, and the first witch book back in
college, but anything after that has just been garbage.

When I
worked for Barnes and Nobles.com years ago, there was a shelf
where review and complementary copies of books were left for employees
to take. A review copy of Violins appeared on the shelf one day
and was scooped up pretty quick. The next morning, the book
reappeared. For at least a week, this was a reoccurring event
where people would take it, read how awful it was and actually bring it
back to work the next day.
Her turning back to religion isn't a problem. But
when you all of a sudden say "Well, everything I do in my life now has
to be about Jesus," that's going to far IMO. At least she can afford
to, if these books are a flop she's still fucking rich.

I think when a poor person, alcoholic, drug addict etc. finds Jesus it's because they have no other options. When someone who apparently doesn't need Jesus finds him people think there is some ulterior motive... In this case, I agree... She's selling Books... No one cares about her Vampires anymore so she needs a new market...

Quote from South Park.

Stan: "You don't know anything about Christianity, Cartman!"

Cartman: "I know enough to exploit it."

Along the same lines, I think it's just a publicity stunt. Trying to keep herself relevant. Kind of like when a performer retires and goes on a 'final farewll tour'.

Well, she used to be Catholic, then stopped practicing. in the past two years her husband died and she became very ill. those are the kind of things that bring someone back to religion.

I doubt this is for publicity, because she'll probably alienate her readers and not pick up the born again crowd (most born agains think that catholics are almost as bad as pagans)

If turning to religion offers her solace, especially after the death of her husband, its nobody's business but her own if she isn't hurting anyone. If what she is doing turns you off...don't buy her books. Live your life, let her live hers. End of story.

As a wise man once said...

Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum,
What might be right for you, may not be right for some.
A man is born, he's a man of means.
Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans.

But they got, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got not alot
So what,
They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.
And together we'll be fine....

Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

I read a buncha her vampire books back in middle school/early high school and haven't really touched her stuff since then. It'll be interesting to see how her fan base will take this new turn. The media's saying they probably won't like her new book but if it's in the same descriptive style and as well written as her better previous novels, her career has a good chance of flourishing. Plus, now she'll have a far better shot at the Christian fiction market.
