Wait. You're blaming Howard because Infinity decided to flip KROCK once Howard leaves?

krock will be going all talk.

Wait...they're going from music to talk after losing a self-proclaimed talk radio god?! So now there will be ZERO stations in NY playing anything resembling new rock? Where does that make sense? And where the hell do they intend to get the talk radio talent? Wow, just wow.

Krock has ALWAYS been GAY!!! Nothing's changed. They used to play wanna be heavy crap like Papa Roach and straight up faggot shit like Green Day all the time. Fuck that shit. Now they're playing some horrific mix of new and old rock.

My biggest fear is this means Booker will be getting his own talk show on Krock, which is a blasphemy. I hear his show in the garage I work in, and I always get up and turn the station. He is a zilch.

The best channel in Philly or pretty much anywhere I've listened to radio was the now defunct WDRE. That station played whatever they wanted in rock, mostly new rock, but anything off any album. I get so sick of hearing the same shit on the radio, no matter if I like the band or not. So listening to this station was the best I ever heard. I guess it's sort of like what you now find on XM and the internet. They had a show every week called "Center Stage" that played all types of rock, new music bands that were still yet to be signed to a major label. I ordered so many cds bc of that show and now there's nothing like it on air. They even had a huge concert in Camden, WDRE fest, right up to their last year. They had some great small bands and a good mix of major bands as well. Everything from God Lives Underwater to Cracker to the Nixons, to 311.

The biggest gripe I have with Stern is that he turned into exactly what he portrayed Imus as in his movie. Imus was portrayed as a self absorbed prick who thought everyone else didn't matter and treated new talent like shit. So fast forward a few years later and Stern had a chance to make this flip with the likes of O & A, Ron and Fez and many other not quite as good shows on WNEW at the time. Instead, everyone copies everything he does, nobody has talent but him, nobody has an original idea and he helped bring down that station personally. Both O&A and R&F give Stern his props in the past, but can't stand him now for the same reason Stern hated Imus. He had the chance to truly bring in a new radio channel, but his pride and idiocy got in his way. Now he's the one copying the boys O and A with the whole sat idea and channel of their own. So keep up the good work asshole. I love the fact that now he's trying to kiss a little ass to some other talent out there bc he needs them now. I'd absolutely hate to work for this asshole. Look at the way he treats his friends. If I had any talent and had a choice, I'd go to the XM team in a fucking second as opposed to jumping on the stagnant/sinking ship that is the Stern show/family. Sure Stern will be a success for quite some time, but the years of his growth are done and now it's up to his blind middle aged to old age followers. He's the next Imus. But at least Imus seemed to have lightened up a little.

The Jack FM format is the bane of radio. Remember Blink, with
the horrible soothing sounds of Keifer Sutherland telling us how many
times a minute the human being blinks right before the next Donna
Summer song? Another robot radio station!

Radio
has no balls, plain and simple. Jack is nothing but all the pop
you know from the last 40 years put in a playlist. Lite FM has been the
number 1 station for years with nothing but the same fucking playlist
of Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, and Elton John mixed in with some safe
recent hits, pandering to the easiest audience, the one that doesn't
care what's playing on the radio. These bot formats are the final
chapter in story of how radio become background noise, with neither the
listener nor the PD actually giving a shit about who's on the other end
of the radio. Just scan the Billboard Top 40 of the last 40
years, pick your songs, and sit back and throw in your advertisers when
you want. Totally safe, sterile radio. You might as well
sit in a folding chair in fucking K-mart with a big ass shit stupid
smile on your face and listen to their K-mart Radio Network.

Good point, but now there won't even be that. NYC is a great music spot, too bad radio doesn't tap the scene outside of MSG and Continental Areana type events. Hell, Central Park "Center stage" had some cool indie events all year round. And does any station even touch the CMJ events? Doubt it. Without college radio, which is hit or miss, radio these days would be worthless. But not even having one fucking decent modern rock station is a fucking joke. And classic rock isn't current/doesn't cut it for a city like NYC. Sure some of you might like it, but this is fucking NYC without one god dam decent station. So much to offer and no takers.

At this point, a good ol' fashinoned radio station that plays MUSIC is useless.

People get songs for free, or they pay for them, OR they rip them from their own collection, and dump them on a (commercial free) great sounding mp3 player that doesn't crap out every time their train goes through a tunnel.

Talk radio is about the only thing that AM and FM radio has to offer that the public CAN'T just download and enjoy. I'm actually suprised that WXRK was able to hold out as long as they did.

Radio, satellite or otherwise, is well past dead...it just doesn't know it yet. Ultimately, online playlists and talk shows will be the only real outlet, if that. The current format of radio is pretty useless. Even the "open" nature of music on satellite radio can't complete with the MP3-type technology that ultimately lets people program thousands of songs onto radio-like units. What good is radio at this point? Not much. That's why the "cable TV" argument of getting satellite radio always seemed so absurd. TV has a future. Radio, in its current form, doesn't. Satellite is just prolonging the death rattle.

However, there is a good segment of the population who like new music which they wouldn't have in their Ipod unless they here it somewhere first. Radio won't die out as you suggest, it will transition just as it is right now. Once the corporate feel/control is gone, as it somewhat is from Sat radio and internet radio, people will listen to different genres as their mood fits. I have over 1000 discs and even more MP3s, and yet I still crave a new sound, band or a raw talent more then the same old shit that even I pick out. Mojo, you have a similar passion for music so I'm surprised you don't see this area of impact/need.

Of course I see the NEED...I just don't see the outlet. Radio as it is, satellite included, is still terrified of trying out new music on large audiences. Look at how the XM stations are broken up...they're designed to cater to people ALREADY into those bands, or those type of bands. You need the freeform stations of the 60's and 70's back that play anything and everything to everyone if you want actual exposure to new music that's significant and widespread. XM and its ilk just allows people to feel affirmed about the music they were already listening to.

You act like the average person needs to be exposed to new music. Sadly, it isn't true. Radio, in one form or another will continue because for the average person, it's easier to be spoon-fed a format than download music and feed it into an mp3 player.

It's kinda like in high school when they used to suspend me and I'd be happy to sit around and watch TV. They got smart and started in-school suspensions.

I thing an in-house suspension would be more effective. 4 hours of show-prep and thats all!!!

Really? Swear to you I didnt know that. So ok, lets
figure this out, Stern plugs the shit out of Sirius, which in turns
gets him suspended and gets him more attention by mentioning the fact
that he's moving to Sirius readio next year. But Sirius os owned by
Infinity radio, so infinity's stock goes up along with Sirius'. Stern
gets the last laugh, by opening his mouth, he gets silenced, which
really in turns gets the word out about his future with sirius. As much
as I could care less about Stern he's got brains, well, sorta. Playing
other people's songs directly from the radio is pretty gay.
Pure unadulterated scam. Stern is just getting press. He is doing nothing more than he has done for about 5 years. Phone it in. It is all B.S. He has been phoning it in since Jackie left the show. Even after hitting the mother load, he is still a whiny bitch. "They won't give me my tapes, Boo Hoo Hoo". Whiny rich bitch. Treats his people like shit, but they will all follow him like lemmings to Sirius to keep the paycheck coming. Take the vacation day and enjoy sitting with your girlfriend who sold her soul to ride the money. LOL. It is just easy to write as though Howard is reading this, although that would never ever happen. It is fun to vent though.

IsSheDead? Is this what women walking into work want to have to say?
