The apparent suicide of a woman
found hanging from a tree went unreported for hours because passers-by
thought the body was a Halloween decoration, authorities said.

The 42-year-old woman used rope to hang herself across the street from
some homes on a moderately busy road late Tuesday or early Wednesday,
state police said.

Makes me think twice about most Halloween decorations.

Reminds me of Ed Gein. in that he danced in his front yard with corpses and had (seen by many) preserved heads in his house. They all thought it was fake until he buthered and cleaned a farmer's wife like a deer. Interesting world and how unaware we are.

The funny part is you know someone was driving by talking to their friend going:

"You know, most of these Halloween decorations are kinda cheesy. Old sweatpants and plastic knives. But THAT is a really good job! Look how they filled out the clothes properly to make it look like an actual body! Even the surprised facial expression and load of shit in the pants. These people are detail oriented!"

Ok....I am sorry but as soon as I read the title of this thread I started to laugh hysterically. I knew it was a hanging for some reason. And I know it is sad someone took their own life but to have it mistaken for a halloween decoration?

That is too funny. (God do not strike me dead!!)

That's nothing. This guy was hanging aound a carnival funhouse for over sixty years before someone figured out he wasn't a prop (during a filming of a Six Million Dollar Man episode of all things).

"In 1911, a man by the name of Elmer McCurdy hooked up with a band of train robbers. After a successful train robbery outside Coffeyville, Kansas, the group planned to rob another train hauling a safe loaded with over one thousand dollars. They hold up a train outside Okesa, Oklahoma in Osage County. This turned out to be the wrong train, the safe held less than fifty dollars. The gang takes some stolen whiskey, and heads for the country.Days later, McCurdy is discovered in a barn by a small posse that was on his trail. Gunplay ensues, leaving the outlaw dead. his body is taken to a funeral parlor in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. No family claimed McCurdy's corpse, who was thus far unidentified. The undertaker put the body on display, charging admission to those who wished to view the unfortunate badman. Carnivals tried to purchase the corpse to add to their attractions, but the undertaker turns them all down. Two men claiming to be the man's long lost brothers recover the body from the funeral parlor. The men were, in reality, carnival workers sent to obtain the cadaver. After touring with the carnival, McCurdy ended up as a prop in the Long Beach Funhouse. It wasn't until 1974, while filming an episode of "The Six-Million Dollar Man", that McCurdy once again attracted more than casual curiosity. A prop man sent to remove the body, now hanging from a beam in the funhouse, accidently breaks off an arm of what was thought to be a dummy. Seeing the exposed bone, the prop man reports his find. Investigators tracked the origins of the corpse, assisted by coins and tickets found in McCurdy's mouth."
